  RYAN VELTMEYER

Halifax-based musician Ryan Veltmeyer has been playing, singing, touring and writing music professionally for the last twelve years. After studying bass-trombone and composition in university, Ryan became heavily involved in Halifax’s thriving music scene, playing trombone and other instruments with a range of bands and artists. From backing up artists like Joel Plaskett, Mike Trask, Ruth Minnikin and Tanya Davis, to playing with bands including I See Rowboats, Paper Beat Scissors, The Blown Gasket Orchestra and Zumbini Circus, Ryan is happily at the centre of the East Coast indie music scene. When not tooting his own horn, Ryan can be found singing and writing medieval and renaissance music with choirs and chambers ensembles in the Maritimes. Ryan became a part of Anna Danova and the Rescuers early on in 2010. “I was captivated by the creative force and hilarity of Ann’s songs, her stage presence and her beautiful voice. It was a no-brainer for me when Ann asked if I was interested in becoming part of her act and playing at the London Fringe Festival.” Talents: trombone, glockenspiel, harmonium, singing, voices, faces, fencing, boogie-ing

ANN DENNY Ann Denny is a writer, singer, actor and bon-vivant! In addition to years of classical voice training and professional jazz singing, Ann is also into theatre in a big way. She has acted and sung in productions with Hart House Drama, Gilbert & Sullivan Society of NS, Jason Rip’s Theatre Nemesis, Komplex Kapharnaum in Lyon France, the Icelandic Opera Chorus, the Jane Austen Society and now for the first time, her own dramatic creation. From London originally and currently residing in Halifax, Ann was dubbed the “singing anthropologist” by her peers at UofT during a Masters degree because of her active involvement in Toronto’s vibrant music scene. She played organ, vibraphone, and sang in indie pop groups, put together a multi-disciplinary avantgarde art collective named BistduBeiMir and started writing her own songs. The Anna Danova character is a labour of love that amplifies and explores aspects of Ann’s real life self in dramatic and hilariously comedic ways. A strong new voice on the Canadian cultural scene, Anna Danova and the Rescuers will release laughter from your gut and pull on your heart-strings. Talents: singing, piano, word writing, face making, heart string pulling

  NOEL TAUSSIG

Noel is the type of musician everyone wants in their band. A true Renaissance man and musically free spirit, Noel sings, plays guitar, bass, drums, slide whistles and any other instrument that ends up in his hands. For twenty years Noel has been playing and writing blues, folk, rock, and reggae music. Noel cut his musical teeth playing soulful guitar and bass with East Coast blues legend, the late Dutch Mason and his son Garrett Mason. Over the years, Noel’s services have been called upon by reggae guru King Sekou, Joe Murphy and others. Recently Noel has been caught unleashing primal screams and chasing runaway tambourines with the Zappa-inspired band Blown Gasket Orchestra. Noel joined Anna Danova and the Rescuers in the spring of 2010. “I love music with spirit and soul. Anna Danova and the Rescuers is a the type of act where I can have a lot of fun, go a little crazy and still play great music. I’m really excited about playing at Wolf Hall with the London Fringe Fest and checking out the other acts too.” Talents: guitar, drums, singing, voices, noises, heavy metal, moon-walking

Interview with Anna Danova by Tracy Ridout, producer of CBC Radio’s new show “Laugh Out Loud” Saturday May 1, 2010

Comedy Star of the Week!

Congratulations Anna Danova on being the LOL Comedy Star of the Week! Our producer Tracy Rideout interviewed her recently. How long have you been doing comedy? I started writing comedic songs about a year and a half ago.. well, truth be told, I got a bit obsessed with the Flight of the Conchords (right), and the songs just started popping out of me! Watching their HBO tv show, I realized that I really wanted to write in that alternative comedy style, from a woman's perspective. So, the Anna Danova character it was born-eth. Who was your inspiration? The aforementioned obsession with the Flight of the Conchords really got me started. I also like Zach Galifianakis and Halifax's Picnicface. A lot of my songs are based on interesting life observations from my time living in Toronto, I was there studying anthropology at U of T at the time. Where do you live? In Hali-land (Halifax) for the past three years now.. I am a proud immigré to the coast! However, I grew up in Ontaria-rio. I return to the "motherland" every few months to be amongst my people, and to pronounce the words 'roof' and 'car' at the top of my soft palate again. Your clip was recorded at a New York Club - how did you get that gig? I went to NYC, contacted the club booker, showed them a video clip of my stuff, actually heard back from them (youppee!) and then got enough pre-booked audience to guarantee myself a spot. It was a great adventure! What are your aspirations? I, Anna Danova am a bit of a Canadian Ambassador for "helpfulness" to the world. So eventually I will need to travel quite a bit to help people out with my songs... the "emotional condom" is just one of many helpful inventions! This June I'll be helping in London Ontario at the Fringe Festival June 17th to the 27th. And this fall, there will be an Anna Danova "Emotional Condom" tour of Canadian Universities and Colleges!!
