WHERE MUSIC AND FILM MAKE OUT IN THE DARK
Film POP is all about busting out of the rusty old !lm festival cage and !nding fun new ways to present movies, with a particular predilection for the musical.
Film POP runs alongside and within the POP Montreal International Music Festival. Championing the same independent spirit in !lm that POP Montreal has championed in music, Film POP revitalizes the movie going experience by creating a new kind of !lm festival. Each year, Film POP presents a slate of music-related !lm events, including important premieres, retrospective screenings, expanded cinema performances, live !lm scores, short !lms, music videos and free family screenings at a variety of professional and unconventional spaces.
The !lms touch on a variety of musical genres and weave in and out of the past to show how different musicians and musical genres have in"uenced each other over time. Film POP showcases both local and international !lmmaking, with !lms in English and French, and promises with each edition a slate of excellent !lms and one-of-a-kind events.
Film POP’s presentation and outreach offerings serve to educate, enlighten and inspire Montreal’s burgeoning roster of independent !lmmakers, who will bene!t greatly from the international programming as well as personal interaction with visiting international !lmmakers.
