YOUR GUIDE TO THE LATEST PRESS BRAKE TECHNOLOGY
1pressbrakebuyersguide.com
With so many makes and models available how do you
choose the right machine and how can you be sure
you’re getting the very latest technology with the
highest possible levels of productivity and performance?
Advanced technologies accessible today deliver safe, high speed and efcient machine control,
greater functionality and usability, highly advanced optical protection and exceptional performance. In
addition to these technologies, the latest advancements in embedded optical imaging aid productivity
through more accurate and consistent part production, managing faster bend speeds, real-time angle
measurement, high speed angle control and instant part sampling.
Unfortunately some press brake manufacturers make the mistake of treating productivity aids, user
functionality, operator protection and safety as an afterthought. Simply adding on or offering an array
of third party devices and components may provide basic functions but without the latest technology
embedded as a complete solution these add ons can dramatically reduce machine productivity,
performance, functionality and usability. In the end this costs you money.
What if you could own a machine that provides you with the very latest in functionality, safety and
operator protection while at the same time enhancing productivity and performance to levels never
before possible?
In this guide we showcase the industry’s leading press brake manufacturers who have embedded
the very latest technologies into their machine designs to provide users efcient and streamlined
operation, enhanced functionality and outstanding levels of productivity and performance.
So you’re in the market
for a new press brake.
PRESS BRAKE BUYER’S GUIDE20
Ursviken Technology AB was established in Sweden 1885 in the land of special AHSS Advanced
High Strength Steel such as Domex, Hardox, Weldox and Armox.
Ursviken knows what it takes!
Ursviken is rst in the line to meet the
higher demands that new material
requires. Knowing that heavier plates
comes in one off or small batches
so the set up time for the machine is
essential as well as the possibility to
over the full length make corrections
to the bend angle locally. An even arc
as de ection compensation is not
sufcient enough! Anyone that has
bent AHSS material in thicker quality
and longer bends knows that the
material might behave differently in
different areas as well as tooling can
be slightly worn. Bump bending in
particular is critical to BDC (Bottom
Dead Center) adjustments due to a
repeatable error in the same area.
With CNC Variable Die Tool (VDT)
the setup time is eliminated compared
to the “old school” heavy die blocks.
The style with the U shaped Ve
opening allows for “over bending” /
compensation for the plate spring back
and in the same time give space for
big punch radii noses that is required
for AHSS material, often with a ratio
of 5 times the plate thickness. The die
edge radii rollers are ideal for bending
AHSS material and are affordable
consumables in hardened quality.
The Ursviken VDT was invented in
1992 and has proven over and over
that it withstands the high bend
forces also for deeper bends in AHSS
material. Long lifetime is crucial for big,
heavy and expensive tooling.
With FlexiCrown Ursviken gives the
user possibility to do local shimming
by CNC. FlexiCrowning also works
outside the side frames. Every 600
mm CC an adjustment to the even arc
can be made. “This is what we need!”
a customer forming heavy pipes in
titanium said in 1992. The 2500 ton
press 12,2 m was delivered both with
VDT and FlexiCrown. The press is
still in operation today mainly forming
mobile telescopic crane arm booms.
FlexiCrown has raised the bar for
productivity for companies forming long
heavy plate especially for pipes, poles
and crane arms in AHSS material.
The Ursviken sale philosophy is
to listen to the customers’ needs
and supply a solution. It’s not just a
question of length and tonnage; there
are so many other considerations to
be made. Lifetime expectancy in this
type of machines is at least 25 years
so when investing your money in new
Press Brakes you need to think ahead.
“The decision we make today we have
to live with for quite some time”. The
press beam forms the part. How often
does your beam stroke?
Chase your productivity on the idle
time, the set up time, the time for
making angle checks and making
corrections to your program, shimming,
the time for reworking your part.
Scrap in heavy AHSS is not an option!
The Ursviken design and application
team are welcoming you with
your production and productivity
challenges. Together we form your
unique solution for a cost efcient
production to the highest quality in
the most difcult materials in a safe
way using the LazerSafe safety and
operator protection systems for press
brakes.

Newer tougher material forces the industry to re-evaluate
whether the existing machinery and tooling is sufficient
enough to meet today’s demands when it comes to quality
and productivity in Press Brakes.
