About Foreclosure Resisters
Foreclosure Resisters are homeowners facing and fighting foreclosure in New York City. After meeting at
Common Laws foreclosure-prevention legal clinic, homeowners formed a community; they shared stories, learned about the subprime mortgage crisis, and encouraged one another. As attendance at the legal clinic
grew, the community of resistance grew. In February 2013, Foreclosure Resisters launched their monthly
community meetings at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan. At these gatherings, Resisters discuss the
systematic ways banks targeted communities of color and the ways these financial giants continue to profit
from the foreclosure crisis. Foreclosure Resisters attend and speak out at community forumsdelivering
their message dont be ashamed, fight back! to other New Yorkers. In order to fight back as acommunity, Foreclosure Resisters also organize Court Support. Each time a Resister appears in Court,
the cavalry comes too as a silent, but unmistakable, witness to the proceedings. Court Support has resulted
in numerous victories for Resisters, which were celebrated as a community at a Dinner-Dance in September
2013 and a game night in January 2014. A quarterly newsletternow in its second yeardelivers updates
and homeowners personal stories to the Foreclosure Resister community. For more information, visit:
