“The first is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30 To be honest, the Ten Commandments and most of Leviticus and Deuteronomy, are com- mentary on these commandments. My hair stands on end when conservative commentators smugly say, “It’s the ten commandments, not suggestions.” And then of course they go on to tell us why we should have troops somewhere and why laissez faire capitalism is the only economic reality and war and greed occasionally have their place. The great Commandments are about relationships. What does it mean to love God? What does it mean to love our neighbor? How does this play out in everyday life? The truth is it’s not always black and white; hard decisions must be made. Every few years the Church is rocked by a movement or a specific individual who challenges church teaching or church practice. St. Francis found a church that was corrupted by great wealth and power, he challenged it to be one with the poor. Thomas Aquinas revolutionized theology by maintaining humankind could perceive the divine with reason and talk about it. The Reformation and Counter-Reformation tried to renew the personal relationship between Christ and his people and the priesthood of all believers. People can know God and God is reaching out constantly to his people. Jesus overthrew the table of the money changers not because what they were doing was illegal, it wasn’t. But it was helping to create a barrier between God and his people. The law should enhance the relationship between God and his creations, not distance it. It seems al- most every great movement of the Church is a reaction against this barrier. Whether it be the prophets, Christ himself, corrupt hierarchy, multiplication of silly laws, great saints, or Vatican II, the question is; “How do we break down the barriers between God and humanity, and humanity with itself?” Every once in a while the money changers tables must be overturned. Lenten Reconciliation Service: Plan to join us for a beautiful Prayer Service of Reconciliation in the Celtic Way of Prayer on Wednesday, March 18 at 6:30 in the Church. The choir will sing and our pastors and prayer partners will help lead this meaningful prayer and ritual as we prepare for the joy of new life at Easter!

St. Patrick's Day Mass and Celebration for Seniors: On Thurs-day, March 12 SAGES invites SJA seniors to celebrate with Mass at 11:30 am in the Church, followed by lunch and entertainment in Hospitality Hall. Come and sing along with our very own Irish ten-or, JP Fitzgibbons. Suggested $10 per person free will offering; no one turned away for inability to pay. Space limited; reservations required. Seder, the celebration of Jewish Passover and prelude to Chris-tian Eucharist will be held on Wednesday, April 1 at 6 pm in the SJA Gym. A fun-filled, meaningful evening for the whole family. RSVP to the Parish Center as a communal dinner will be served.

The Sunday Morning Registration and Information Office is located in the Parish Center. In the office you may register to become a SJA parishioner; get program information; sign up for a program; and register to volunteer. The office is open after both of our Sunday morning liturgies.

SJA Finance Manager Needed: The job responsibilities include directing, managing and completing all general accounting and financial reporting activities for the parish. Candidates should have a minimum of five years accounting experience and a BA in

This will be a very powerful and timely conversa-tion, sponsored by Catholic Charities' Office for Social Justice.
