The last four months have certainly been a busy time for local businesses with Christmas, Back to School, the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival and Easter Break. The talk from local businesses is that whilst trade might have been down slightly on previous years we have cer- tainly seen some big improvement on early 2011 and some positive forecasts for the com- ing 8 months. November/December last year saw the run- ning of the local Christmas Promotion. The Chamber of Commerce were a sponsor of this together with Rebel/Breeze FM and the Stan- thorpe Border Post and feedback from partici- pating businesses has been positive with thou- sands of dollars beings pent by the lucky win- ners at local businesses. We are looking for- ward to a bigger and better promotion in 2012. The Chamber of Commerce has hosted a number of different functions already this year. Our guest speaker from Office of Fair Trading proved popular with members and provided some insight into refunds, faulty goods and general consumer law. Another function was held at Art on Davadi, giving Granite Belt Sup- port Services an opportunity to showcase their fantastic facility to our members. I am keen to see signboards erected at the Northern & Southern entrances to town, lead- ing more visitors into the CBD where they will hopefully spend some dollars and maybe even decide to stay overnight. Preliminary discus- sions have taken place with the Economic De- velopment Unit and we are waiting for ap- proximate quotes on the signs. The actual layout of the signs is yet to be de- termined, and I would like to see input from members in this regard, so feel free to email your thoughts and designs in as soon as possi- ble. The design and implementation of the Cham- ber of Commerce website is in its early stages. We look forward to including your business details and providing useful information on this site. There is plenty coming up in the next few months so keep an eye on your inbox. I look forward to seeing you all at our next meetings and networking events. The last four months have certainly been a

busy time for local businesses with Christmas,

Back to School, the Apple and Grape Harvest

Festival and Easter Break. The talk from local

businesses is that whilst trade might have been

down slightly on previous years we have cer-

tainly seen some big improvement on early

2011 and some positive forecasts for the com-

ing 8 months.

November/December last year saw the run-

ning of the local Christmas Promotion. The

Chamber of Commerce were a sponsor of this

together with Rebel/Breeze FM and the Stan-

thorpe Border Post and feedback from partici-

pating businesses has been positive with thou-

sands of dollars beings pent by the lucky win-

ners at local businesses. We are looking for-

ward to a bigger and better promotion in

2012.

The Chamber of Commerce has hosted a

number of different functions already this year.

Our guest speaker from Office of Fair Trading

proved popular with members and provided

some insight into refunds, faulty goods and

general consumer law. Another function was

held at Art on Davadi, giving Granite Belt Sup-

port Services an opportunity to showcase their

fantastic facility to our members.

I am keen to see signboards erected at the

Northern & Southern entrances to town, lead-

ing more visitors into the CBD where they will

hopefully spend some dollars and maybe even

decide to stay overnight. Preliminary discus-

sions have taken place with the Economic De-

velopment Unit and we are waiting for ap-

proximate quotes on the signs.

The actual layout of the signs is yet to be de-

termined, and I would like to see input from

members in this regard, so feel free to email

your thoughts and designs in as soon as possi-

ble.

The design and implementation of the Cham-

ber of Commerce website is in its early stages.

We look forward to including your business

details and providing useful information on this

site.

There is plenty coming up in the next few

months so keep an eye on your inbox. I look

forward to seeing you all at our next meetings

and networking events.

Wishing everyone a happy, safe and busy long

weekend!

Make it, Bake it, Sew it or Grow it

Stanthorpe's wonderful make it, bake it, sew it or grow it Craft Mar-

ket has been operating since the early 1990s with increasing success.

We have gone from a bi-monthly Market to a twice a month Market

and visitors seem to appreciate the extra day to visit us. Accommo-

dation managers tell us that often their clients ask if the Market will

be held on the weekend they plan to visit. Every second and fourth

Sunday, and long weekends, the Market operates from Stanthorpe's

Civic Centre on the Corner of Marsh and Lock Streets from 8 am to

12 noon. This is one of the few Markets remaining which is purely

craft and visitors comment on how much they appreciate the quality and affordability of our

offerings. The Market is run by a Committee and all goods offered for sale have to be vetted

by our Vetting Committee. This action has ensured that we can maintain our high quality.

Further information can be gained from our website www.marketinthemountains.org
