President’s Message
New Members
Spring has finally arrived ! I hope you are taking the opportunity to get outside and capture the new beginnings through drawing, paintings and photographs. If you have ever thought about working Plein Air (outside) this is the time. OAS has a Plein Air group which meets once a month: check it out ! A number of big events are on the horizon for May: the Student Show (take in May 28th at OAS) and the Juried show (June 7 take in for those selected); applications are due mid-May. Be sure to read the information for both shows carefully: different criteria, different locations , different dates etc. New this year: Sign up through the office to get high quality photos of your artwork on May 4th or 11th for the Juried show submission. This will ensure that the juror has a good representation of your work. Spaces are limited, so sign up asap. If you are wondering which of these 2 shows to enter, consider the Student Show if you have taken one or more of our classes or workshops in the past year and if you are relatively inexperienced as an artist . Consider the Juried Show if you are more experienced and feel comfortable submitting your work to a juror, and possibly having it selected for the show. You will increase your chances for selection if you submit 2 works to the Juried show. Another option is to put work into the Student Show and the Juried Show if you meet the criteria. Watercolour Street Scenes: Colour, Light and Design! with Instructor Bonnie Steinberg Come and explore how light, design and colour can put passion in composition! Participants will learn how to paint great greens, deep violets and other wonderful hues. Some new and some old and proven techniques will be taught and demonstrated to provide a purposeful aim for participants. Marvel at the result or your luminous and passionate paintings! OASSPRINGJURIEDSHOW-2018
All OAS members are invited to submit their works to the OAS Spring Juried Show, which will take place at the Oakville Gallery at Centennial Square from June 8 to 17. One or two works may be submitted electronically** by May 18, 2018. The submission fee is $30 for up to two pieces. The selections will be made by our distinguished Juror, Sam Paonessa. One, two or none of the works may be selected. Artists will be notified on May 28 by email. Drop off of selected work at Centennial Gallery on Thursday, June 7, between 10 and 12 a.m. Reception will be held on Monday June 11, 7 pm – 9 pm. The reception will start with a presentation by the Juror, Sam Paonessa and will be followed by the presentation of the awards and refreshments. All unsold work must be picked up following show on June 17, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. For more information please refer to the OAS Juried Show Information Sheet which was emailed to all members or contact the office at [email protected] or click on http://www.oakvilleartsociety.com/memberslounge.html Note: Ron Van Zutphen, an OAS member and Instructor, will be available to take photographs of your artwork (one or two per artist) on May 4th and 11th starting at 10:00 am. The fee is $5 per piece. If you are interested in this offer, please contact the office: [email protected] with your preferred date noted. The first 20 members to apply (based upon the time your email is sent) will have an appointment booked for a specific 15 minute time period. Please put “Juried Show Photos” in the subject line of your email.

This annual event is an outstanding one-day outdoor art show, held on August 6th in a beautiful setting at Bronte Waterfront Park. If you are an artist who would like to participate, apply soon as spaces are rapidly being reserved.
