STAN BURGESS, CGCS superb host in Rich Scholes, PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Many thanks to Campbell Turner, his staff, and the staff at DeLaveaga Golf Course for their hospitality at our May meeting. I heard many fine compliments on the golf course and the facility. This months meeting at Palo Alto Hills CC, will be a change in our normal operations as far as our meetings go. This will be an afternoon golf and a dinner meeting. Be sure and attend, it should be a nice change from the normal. Remember if you play golf, you must attend dinner and the meeting. You will be billed if you do not attend. My apologies for being unable to attend the annual state meeting at Rancho Murieta. From what I hear from those who attended it was a complete success. Outstanding educational, great facility, great golf course, super hospitable staffs, and a job well done by the Sierra Nevada Chapter. Our Superintendent/Pro Tournament is just around the corner, and remember it is a full field each year, so be sure and get your entry in early. See you at Palo Alto CC. *Many thanks to Paul Sartoretto for his presentation at DeLaveaga Golf Course. PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Many thanks to Campbell Turner, his staff, and the staff at DeLaveaga Golf Course for their hospitality at our May meeting.

Outstanding educational, great facility, great golf course, super hospitable staffs, and a

job well done by the Sierra Nevada Chapter.

Our Superintendent/Pro Tournament is just around the corner, and remember it is a full field each year, so be sure and get your entry in early. See you

at Palo Alto CC.

*Many thanks to Paul Sartoretto for his presentation at DeLaveaga Golf Course.

HOST SUPERINTENDENT

MICHAEL GARVALE began his career as a crew member while in college at Plum Hollow Golf Club in Michigan. After graduating from the University of Detroit in chemistry he attended graduate school. While working on a degree in Biochemistry he became Assistant Superintendent. After graduate school Mike attended Michigan State University where he received a degree in agronomy in 1975c He then trained under James Timmerman as his Assistant for two years, at which point he became head Superintendent at a resort course in Northern Michigan0

From there Mike took over as Superintendent at Grand Traverse Resort where he was in charge of completing construction of its championship course and beginning construction of a new Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course.

Mike was also active in his local organization, becoming President just before heading west to Palo Alto Hills.

PALO ALTO HILLS GCC

PALO ALTO HILLS GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB is located in the serene setting of Los Altos Hills. With its tight tree lined fairways and deceptively un-dulating greens this 6200 yard par 71 golf course puts a premium on accuracy. If the course proves to be to much, a person can always relax with its many vistas including a view of San Francisco on a clear day.
