I have immense pleasure in welcoming our DG, Rtn Manjunath Shey to the GOV, being held on Tuesday, 13th January, 2015. We have just crossed the half year mark in 2014-15. There is a deep sense of accomplishment and pride, with compleon of Julapalaya Drinking Water Project on schedule. Memories of 34th Charternite, is sll afresh. Let us connue our quest for community service. Rtn Murali Du G K, President Events, Programs & Projects: 2nd December, 2014: 23rd Weekly Meeng, Club Assembly Meet was held at Manandi Samskru Sadana. COL, resoluons approved by the District were passed and preparaons for the 34th Charternite proposed to be celebrated, was formally iniated by Rtn Shashikant V Pobbathi, 2015-16 PE. 7th December, 2014: “Jeevan Dhaare”, Filtered Water Project, Poleramma High School, Julapalaya, Chikkaballapura District, Karnataka. This is RBSW’s flagship project, a “Water For Life” project, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, none other than RBSW’s senior most Rtn PP P C Ray. It was RBSW’s mega event. Highly contaminated ground water with Fluoride, is filtered in the custom designed filtraon plant, to provide safe drinking water to about 220 school children, many of them from the backward and other weaker secons from about 22 villages of Julapalaya Group Panchayat, the teachers in the school and to the extent possible, their families. Each student is provided with a 5 Ltrs capacity, food grade durable water bole with liſting handle to carry home safe drinking water, to benefit their families. The school has been provided with food grade jerry cans for use in the school.

Dear Southwestars, at the outset, my wife, Geetha; my sons, Aditya & Shashank join me, in wishing all SouthWestars:

A Very Happy & Prosperous New Year!

I have immense pleasure in welcoming our DG, Rtn Manjunath Shetty to the GOV, being held on Tuesday, 13th January, 2015. We have just crossed the half year mark in 2014-15. Events, Programs & Projects:

2nd December, 2014: 23rd Weekly Meeting, Club Assembly Meet was held at Manandi Samskruti Sadana. COL, resolutions approved by the District were passed and preparations for the 34th Charternite proposed to be celebrated, was formally initiated by Rtn Shashikant V Pobbathi, 2015-16 PE.

7th December, 2014: “Jeevan Dhaare”, Filtered Water Project, Poleramma High School, Julapalaya,

While the ground water pump was donated by Bangalore East club, the filtration plant and its installation with associated electrical & plumbing was provided by RBSW. The school provided requisite plant-room and local assistance & services. The existing bore well came in handy to provide continuous ground water. The school management readily provided undertaking to run and maintain the plant with their own resources.

Reportedly, Jeevan Dhaare drinking water is being provided to the neighbouring Govt. Middle School with 175 students, Primary Health Centre and Mandal Panchayat Office, Julapalaya, by Poleramma High School. The Project has attracted the attention of the CEO, Zilla Parishad at Chikkaballapura District Head Quarter.

14th December, 2014: 25th Weekly Meeting, followed by RBSW’s with SouthWestars, their families and special guests, Rtn PDG DR S Nagendra, Rtn PDG H Rajendra Rai, Rotarian at Heart Mr C N Kumar, Mrs. Srimathi Master, President and Mrs. Nirmala Raghu, Committee Member of Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Southwest and few more, was held at Hotel Bangalore International, Bangalore.

At the behest of the President, Rtn Dr K Gnanamurthy, Charter Member, made a dazzling introduction of 2015-16 President Elect, Rtn Shashikant V Pobbathi. The President Elect made an emotional speech on his initiation into Rotary and his journey of over 13 years, as a Rotarian in RBSW. The President, then invited the President Elect to introduce his Team, “EverGreen Go Getters” to the SouthWestars, which he did enthusiastically. He profusely thanked the Team that helped him tirelessly, to set up the stage, audio and put together the exciting programs that followed.

Rtn PE Shashikant Pobbathi had desired to bring out to the attention of SouthWestars at the Charternite, two Silver Members, Rtn PP K N Chendra Shekher and Rtn Capt. V P Iyer’s 25 years association with Rotary and that they could be surprised with two skits to humour them and SouthWestars in general.

Rtn Dayanand U R, Fund Raising, announced details of Fund Raiser CASCO Season 2. The fund raiser poster was launched. Smile bundles of 20, CASCO books, each worth Rs. 10,000, each book priced at Rs. 500, loaded with gift coupons and 2 chances to win attractive cash prizes,

The President adjourned the Weekly Meeting and threw open the 34th Charternite Celebrations. The Southwestars’ Superheros & Anns Famme Fatales were the special attraction at the Charternite. Thanks to the imaginative and innovative ideas of the exuberant Rtn PE Shashikant Pobbathi, diligent Rtn SE Pruthvi Rao, ever effervescent Rtn PP Sameer Hariani and affable Rtn PP Anup Agarwal’s good offices with Hotel Bangalore International, Charternite celebrations took off with usual RBSW grandeur which was very exhilarating, enjoyed by all and was indeed memorable. 34th Charternite cake, ingeniously designed by Rtn SE Pruthvi Rao, was cut ceremoniously by distinguished past & current Presidents and President Elect, which was relished by one and all. The mood of the night is all too visible from the pictures that were posted by Rtn PP Sameer Hariani as the Anchor on one hand and, Masquerader of the Superheroes & Famme Fatales on the other.

Rtn PDG H Rajendra Rai decorated Rtn Murali Dutt, President, Rtn Ritesh Mehta, Rtn Dayanand U R with PHF pins. and Rtn PP Sameer Hariani was decorated with Second Level Major Donor Pin & Crystal. The recipients were all smiles.

In recognition of the two Silver Members, at the request of Rtn PE Shashikant Pobbathi, two brief skits were presented, one by Annet Rohan Hariani, a flamboyant youngster, enacting Rtn PP K N Chendra Shekher and the other, by Annets Dhruvi Dayanand and Nidhi Niranjan, two

budding artists of RBSW, enacting Rtn PP Capt. V P Iyer and Renu Iyer, respectively and enthralled all the SouthWestars, their families and guests.

23rd December, 2014: Weekly Meeting, Speaker Meet, was jointly held with Bangalore South East club at Manandi Samskruti Sadana, Jayanagar 5th Block. Rtn AG A T Sagar was a Special Guest. Dr Shakuntala Karanth, a well known Practitioner of Magneto, Acupressure, Radionics Therapy, Nature Cure, Pranic Healing, besides Reiki Healing, made a fascinating and captivating presentation on “Reiki Healing”. Her commitment and dedication to her profession was visibly seen with her ready and precise responses to several interesting questions that were raised by many Rotarians who attended the meet.

24th December, 2014, Community Service Program, RBSW’s team lead by Rtn Murali Dutt, visited the residential school with 107 visually challenged children, run by The Karnataka Welfare Association for The Blind, at Sheshadripuram, Bangalore. Ms. S. J. Keerthi, Public Relation & Resource Development Manager, received RBSW’s team and took them around the facilities. 107 Braille slates with stylus which help learn and write and cricket balls filled with

small pebbles which help play cricket, donated by RBSW, were distributed to the children. The joyful smiles on the children’s faces was indeed very heartening.

27th December, 2014, Vocational Service visit to underground works at Majestic Metro Junction, BMRCL, “Namma Metro”, courtesy Rtn B N Krishnamurthy. RBSW team of 12 SouthWestars, lead by the President, was received by Mr M S Gudge, Deputy Chief Engineer. Mr Mallik, Safety Officer, who prided in BMRCL’s zero accidents record, briefed the team on safety in general. RBSW team was provided with BMRCL safety jackets, helmets and boots to suit the individuals size, by prior intimation. Out of the two Metro Lines, North-South and East-West, the team were taken to the underground tunnel works of North-South Line.

What the team saw was unique, technological and fascinating feat of modern construction techniques. Huge drilling machine, boring tunnels to 10 meter diameter at least 10 meters below the ground level, placement of high grade interlocked concrete pipe sections, disposal of drilled wastes & debris, most all remote controlled, was an awe inspiring experience.

31st December, 2014, International Fellowship program, “Walk & Breakfast with Alex & Annika”, District 1900, Germany, Alex was the host of Rtn PP Sameer Hariani, GSE Team Leader, in Rotary Year 2011-12. A team of SouthWestars, lead by Rtn Sameer Hariani, enjoyed a refreshing walk with

the visiting guests, in Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore, followed by sumptuous breakfast at the well known “MTR” Restaurant, near the Lalbagh Botanical Garden.

Key Board Decisions

Fund Raising Committee shall Initiate CASCO Season - 2 at the 34th Charternite and launch it in January, 2014.

Obtain approval of two suggestions made by Rtn PP Chendra Shekher along with his sub-committee member, for changes in the COL, approved by the Board.

Strategy Committee shall explore, discuss and put forward recommendations to motivate members to enhance their attendance and participation in the club’s weekly & project meetings, programs & projects; guidelines & best practices to maintain healthy cohesiveness amongst the youth and senior members and draw realistic plans for implementation of Project H.O.P.E.

Form Young Generation Committee of prospective youth leaders and some senior Rotarians, to draw specific guidelines to improve RBSW’s functioning and operational efficiency.

Form Mentors Committee to guide, regulate and help systematic functioning by incumbent office bearers, new members and members, in general.

SouthWeStar Performers - Members, Anns & Annets

Rtn Karthik Kittu was recognized with deep appreciation “For Outstanding Service to the Rotary Movement” by Rtn Gary C K Huang, President, Rotary International at “Rotary Zone Institute” in a “Rotaract South Asia MDIO Leaders meet Leader” program, at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai.

Membership Development, Update & Status

Team Resolute have had to regretfully accept Rtn PHF Rajni Ajay Singh’s resignation from RBSW’s membership. Efforts are continuing in enrolling new members. Membership stands at 52, as of 31st December, 2014.

The GOV Special Edition bulletin would be incomplete without adding traditional colour which is always provided to RBSW, by the Bangalore SouthWest Inner Wheel ladies’ club President, Mrs Srimathi Master, with her ever disarming, dazzling smiles and her team. The Inner Wheel club’s 33rd Charternite celebrations held on 5th January, 2015 was a treat to SouthWestars. Here is Inner Wheel President, Mrs Srimathi Master’s message which just flashed in:

Dear President Rtn. Murali Dutt, It gives me great pleasure to extend our heartiest greetings and good wishes from Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Southwest. It has indeed been a wonderful year in association with Rotary Bangalore Southwest and has created numerous opportunities for us to be a part of the Joint meetings and Projects under your able leadership.
