President’s Message Hello all! Looking forward to seeing everyone at our Annual Meeting May 13. Please put the following on your calendar. When: Saturday, May 13, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm Where: Drusilla Seafood Restaurant We will each order separately from the menu. Here is a link to the menu so you may make your choice ahead of time. http://drusillaplace.com/r/menus/luncheon-specials/ There will be elections, presentation of the budget, and committee reports. The speaker will be Racheal Hebert, CEO and President of STAR. Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response. If you are interested in becoming more involved. (as an officer), the nominating committee is looking for you or if you are willing or know of someone else who is, please call Margo Kiehfuss at 293-0683 or Lorraine Day at 767-7739. If you are new to AAUW and/or interested in becoming more involved, (in interest groups) don’t forget to check the rest of the newsletter for the various activities and sign up for those that interest you. Were you there? Thursday, March 20 - Saturday, March 22, 2017, AAUW BR hosted AAUW Louisiana for Lobby Day at the State Capitol, a dinner at which participants viewed the film “Equal is Equal” about pay disparity between men and women, and a state convention where members and affiliates from throughout the state met and heard speakers from different organizations discuss issues of relevance to women.
If you were unable to attend the events for members from throughout the state, how much do you know about AAUW’s impact in Louisiana ? During fiscal year 2016, AAUW held 36 lobby visits with members of the U.S. Congress. State members sent 1,569 messages through the Two-Minute Activist tool. AAUW was mentioned by media outlets including The Daily Advertiser (Lafayette), Daily World (Opelousas), the News-Star (Monroe/West Monroe), Shreveport Times, Town Talk (Alexandria), WWL TV (New Orleans), and KNOE (Monroe).
Louisiana State President Vivian Guillory reports that the activities of members from throughout the state were well attended and successful. Thank you AAUW BR for hosting the AAUW Louisiana State Convention! Thanks to our members who supported three days of events.

INTEREST GROUPS
BOOK GROUP I—PM The Evening Book group will meet on Wednesday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bluebonnet Library to propose and choose books for next year. Books be available at the public library. Catherine Roundtree and Ann Sperry will chair this group beginning with the May meeting. Ann ([email protected]) asked by email that you send nominations by April 25 so she could prepare a written list for consideration. (If you have a last minute suggestion, of course you may add it at the meeting.) Please RSVP regarding your attendance to Ann as well. Catherine Roundtree will be out of town for the May meeting, but any other time you may send her notice of your interest in participating to [email protected]. There will be no book discussion at this business meeting.
BOOK GROUP II—AM Suzanne Vincent reports that the group will not meet in May. Members made selections of books for next year at the April meeting. If you have an interest in joining this group in the fall, please let Suzanne know at [email protected]
Great Decisions June Klimash will host at her home, 417 Highland Trace, 70810, and lead a discussion of Saudi Arabia in Transition at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 18. Please RSVP regarding your attendance to [email protected] This group will not meet during the summer months but will resume meeting in the fall.
GOURMET GROUP The Gourmet Group will meet at 7:00 p.m on Saturday, May 20, for an Austrian Summer Picnic hosted by Lorraine and Donal Day at their home, 2133 General Lee Avenue, 70810. Please communicate with Lorraine, [email protected] or 767-7239 about attending. Participants typically prepare one recipe provided by the hostess. This will be the final gathering of the season. CAMPUS STUDY June Klimash reports that Campus Study will meet on Thursday, May 25, at Juban’s at noon. The speaker will be Emily Sulzer, Local Foods Outreach Manager from BREADA, the organization that sponsors the Red Stick Farmer's Market. We hope you can join us.
