THE BRIGHTON BIG BAND

Regular performers on the Terraces Stage, we welcome back Brighton’s popular Swing Band

performing instrumental and vocal numbers with some big band favouritesVocalist: Jackie Sampson

2019 Rottingdean ArtsIn 2019 Rottingdean Arts is presenting its 10th ANNIVERSARY SEASON to include a special AUTUMN MUSIC FESTIVAL, having taken a break from running a Festival in 2018 due to our poor health.

We will launch our programme on Sunday, May 19 with a RECEPTION FOR SPONSORS AND PATRONS at Hillside Barn and focus for the summer on 6 Concerts on the ROTTINGDEAN TERRACES STAGE.

At the end of the Summer Season, Rottingdean Arts is presenting a very special CELEBRITY CONCERT featuring world-renowned Percussionist DAME EVELYN GLENNIE performing a Jazz Concert with Scottish Trio HLK in the Village Hall on Monday, August 26.

This year’s FESTIVAL will be held in the AUTUMN from Saturday, September 28-Sunday, October 6. As in previous years, audiences can look forward to a MUSIC FESTIVAL which will be wide-ranging in terms of the events offered. There is a GILBERT AND SULLIVAN GALA CONCERT and RONNIE SCOTT’S ALL STARS during the first weekend; two MUSIC DINNERS at the Bistro Gourmand on Monday, September 30 (Jazz Singer SARAH JANE EVELEIGH with ANDY WALLS) and Tuesday, October 1 (MIKE HATCHARD playing Classical Piano); an OPERA AND MUSICALS DINNER with THREE TENORS from WELSH NATIONAL OPERA on Wednesday, October 2. On Thursday, October 3 the wonderful contralto LUCY STEVENS, who gave us such a superb performance of WHATTALIFE (the story of Kathleen Ferrier) in 2017, brings us SHAKESPEARE IN SONG AND VERSE in a lunchtime presentation at Hillside Barn and on Friday, October 4 there are two events: a lunchtime concert given by the five members of the superb young Wind Quintet, the MAGNARD ENSEMBLE in St. Margaret’s Church, followed by a candlelit evening concert by unique group YANTRA, who combine music from Bulgaria, India and England. The final weekend of our 10th ANNIVERSARY AUTUMN MUSIC FESTIVAL features a wonderful concert by the Jazz Repertory Company entitled THE ELLA FITZGERALD and LOUIS ARMSTRONG SONGBOOK on Saturday, October 5 in the Village Hall and a popular orchestral CLASSICS FOR PLEASURE concert conducted by myself on Sunday, October 6 at St. Margaret’s Church with the professional ENGLISH CONCERT ORCHESTRA.

So there it is! Hopefully something for everyone.
