PRESERVATIVE TREATMENT SELECTOR Issued September 2016 Preservative Treatment Selector Selecting a timber preservative treatment is an important decision in ensuring a reliable and appropriate preservative treated timber is supplied for a particular project. The choice is dependent on various factors such as the eventual end use location of the treated timber, the final appearance of the treated timber, the availability of ready treated stocks of timber or the dimensional aspects of the timber components which may be affected by a treatment. Specific details on the choice of treatments by Use Class (EN 335) are available in a separate document. Following is a summary of the main high and low pressure preservative treatments that best fits your needs with a particular timber component in mind. 1 INTERNAL BUILDING/JOINERY TIMBERS ABOVE DAMP PROOF COURSE DESCRIPTION USE CLASS TREATMENT OPTIONS Roof Timbers (dry) UC1 • Pitched roofs • Joists • Rafters • Sarking • Purlins • Wall plates Roof Timbers (hylotrupes / longhorn beetle area) UC1 or UC2 • Pitched roofs (not original) • Joists • Rafters • Sarking • Purlins • Wall plates Roof Timbers (risk of wetting) UC2 • Flat Roofs • Joists • Rafters • Sarking • Purlins • Wall plates • Exposed beams • Enclosed beams • Tiling battens External Walls/Ground Floor Joists UC2 • Timber frame material • Sole plates • External walls • Ground floor joists Specification Clauses are available as separate documents.
