Thus, the theme of the Report changes every year to highlight different strategic water issues and to provide content basis for discussions taking place throughout the year.

The 2019 edition of the WWDR is dedicated to “Leaving No One Behind”. The pivotal event for its launch is planned for 19 March at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. To improve outreach and to increase public awareness, every year WWAP invites UN agencies, their field offices, UNESCO National Commissions, and local and relevant national partner institutions, to organize informative events structured around the theme of World Water Day with emphasis on the main findings of the WWDR.

WWAP strongly encourages relevant organizations, including those focused on youth, to participate in the dissemination of the Report’s findings. To facilitate the content preparation of such activities, WWAP provides a ‘substance package’ as described under the section ‘Practical Information’.

PRACTICALINFORMATIONWWAP announces and promotes these events on its website

The UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme does not provide financial support to the organization of these events. However, it offers a ‘substance’ package, containing a PowerPoint presentation with main findings of the Report, copies of the latest WWDR with accompanying Executive Summary (translated into the six UN official languages), USB sticks, facts and figures compilation and a ‘press kit’ including the press release that could be adapted to local context. A more comprehensive version of this package is also made available on the WWAP website in early March, including various digital promotional materials (e.g. flyer, poster and infographic) that can be printed and used in your event, and videos to be projected and shared through your social media channels.

Example of the 2018 edition: http://www.unesco.org/new/en/natural-sciences/environment/water/wwap/wwdr/2018-nature-based-solutions/

WWAP announces and promotes these national/regional events on its website, with succinct information and photos provided by the event organizers: www.unesco.org/new/en/natural-sciences/environment/water/wwap/wwdr/2018-nature-based-solutions/regional-launches/

We invite those who are interested in organizing an institutional event to celebrate the World Water Day to contact Ms Simona Gallese ([email protected]) for support.
