SPEECH RECOGNITIONWHAT IS SPEECH RECOGNITION?

A speech recognition system is a type of software that allows the user to have their spoken words converted into written text in a computer application such as a word processor or spreadsheet. The computer can also be controlled by the use of spoken commands.

The user speaks to the computer through a microphone, which in turn, identifies the meaning of the words and sends it to NLP device for further processing. Once recognized, the words can be used in a variety of applications like display, robotics,commands to computers, and dictation.

SPEECH RECOGNITION PROCESS

•The input speech signal, s[n], is converted to the sequence of feature vectors, X = {x1,x2,…,xT }, by the feature analysis block (also denoted spectral analysis) the frequency spectrum coefficients are widely used to represent the short-time spectral characteristics.

•the pattern classification block decodes the sequence of feature vectors into a symbolic representation that is the maximum likelihood string, Ŵ that could have produced the input sequence of feature vectors.

•The pattern recognition system uses a set of acoustic models and a word lexicon to provide the acoustic match score for each proposed string.
