Southampton Solent University

(SSU) is a young, vibrant and

ambitious university located in

the centre of Southampton, on the

South coast of England. As it sets

to further expand into the 21st

century, SSU is taking initiatives

to reach out to its target audience

of potential students. As part of

this marketing strategy, SSU ‘the

Client’ has commissioned the

design of a temporary

structure in the City Centre to

be used for promoting the

courses and services offered

by SSU.

1.- Minimal disturbance

To the permanent architectural features in the area, to the

transport services, to the business and shops, and to the

users, workers & passers by.2.- Dual Focal Points

As the BARGATE monument splits the site in two, blocking

sounds & views, it is only natural to create two focal

points, one to each side of BARGATE, to attract as many

potential visitors as possible.3.- Maritime Inspiration

Convey in some manner the maritime heritage that

Southampton & its surroundings posses together with the

promotion of Solent University. (Name changes from The

Hub, to H.M.S. S.S.U. Solent)4.- Minimalist Approach

Allow the design to speak for itself, to be self-explanatory
