• 37 sexual assault cases reported
after 72 hours. Management of
the client was compromised
since prophylaxis was not given
if the client report after 72 hours.
• 24 sexual assault cases tested
HIV positive prior to PEP.
• Mapping of areas
where the 37 clients are
coming from and
conduct dialogues and
engage community
leaders.
• These clients were
initiated on lifelong
ART therapy & linked to
municipal ward based
outreach teams, CCG’s
& support groups for
follow up.
• HIV testing done at 3
month intervals.
• 24 new sexual assault
cases were offered
comfort packs.

major projects used by
DOH , DSD & DOE.

UP COMING PLANS FOR THE NEXT QUARTER • Launch of Interfaith forum in May 2018 to assist in creating awareness
about Key Populations and prevention of sexual assault.
• Ongoing engagement of THP’s on the mixing of medication in May
2018.
• Ongoing Open Days to engage the community and market HIV/AIDS
and TB services in May 2018 at Mumbe Clinic.
• Operation MBO at Isinyambothi ward 05 in Umvoti Local Municipality.17
May 2018
• Roll out current plans to mitigate teenage pregnancy in June 2018 at
Mashingizela High School in Umvoti Local Municipality.
• Working with celebrity Nombuso from Uzalo soapie in the following
schools: Fundokuhle and Dumaphansi High Schools in Msinga LM,
Thalana and Sebenzakusakhanya High Schools in Endumeni LM,
Bongumenzi High School at Nquthu LM and Buhlebuyeza High Schools
in Umvoti in June

GOAL 1: ACCELERATE PREVENTION TO REDUCE NEW TB, HIV/AIDS &STI
INFECTIONS
Actions
• Testing and distribution of condoms on hotspots.
• MMC Camps to reach out to males.
GOAL 2: REDUCE MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY BY PROVIDING TREATMENT,
CARE AND ADHERENCE SUPPORT FOR ALL
Full integration with the THP sector to exclude negative impact on mixing of
treatment.
There are 306 Community pick up points where people get their treatment
closer to where they live.
Treatment is also distributed in the Luncheon Clubs and Adherence clubs
to household champions and Outreach teams

GOAL 3:REACH ALL KEY AND VULNERABLE POPULATIONS WITH CUSTOMISED AND TARGETED INTERVENTIONS
9 Clinics have been trained on sensitization of Key Population to provide
services freely.
Key population Launch was on the 27th March 2018 and the official opening of
Regional Leadership Site at Empathe Clinic .
Provision of services to the Brothels for the sex workers.

• Engagement of Traditional Health Practitioners and Leaders in management of
HIV/AIDS and TB through stakeholder engagement
• GOAL 5: GROUND THE RESPONSE TO TB, HIV/AIDS AND STI'S IN
HUMAN RIGHTS PRINCIPLES AND APPROACHES
• HIV and AIDS mainstreamed in agendas for all sector group meetings /events
• District Civil Society Forum was launched and is in place

• District Mayor chairs all District Aids Council meeting since the District
council inaugurated.
• Chairperson of District Civil Society post have been filled
• Dedicated office and budget for HIV and AIDS in the district and local

DAC FUNCTIONALITY
Challenge: Quarterly DAC report submitted to the PCA Secretariat. Poor
participation by Departmental representatives at DAC meetings except
DOH. Key departments not represented in DAC M&E forum. Civil Society
structure is non-functional. Other Local Mayors not attending DA C
Mitigation: Orientate Departmental District Managers on their Department’s
role in the DAC. Orientate DAC members on M&E principles. Coordinate
meeting to revive Civil Society structure
District Actions: District Mayor to table this at the next Mayors Forum
District Performance: Quarterly DAC report submitted to the PCA
Secretariat in every Quarter

Challenge: Non functionality of Umvoti Local Aids Council
Mitigation: Elect Civil Society Chairpersons for Msinga and Umvoti LACs
and finalise pending election for Civil Society Chairperson for the District
District Actions: To be discussed at the next Mayors Forum Meeting
District Performance: Districts reports are submitted timeously to PCA

SUCCESS STORIES
• The District has successfully launched the Key Population Structure
• Ongoing awareness campaigns at TVET’s Colleges (Majuba and Mthashana) on LGBTI sector.
• Ongoing awareness campaigns on “she conquers” in various schools within the District to curb teenage pregnancy.
• Done well in the following indicators after different community engagements and participation:
