What is it ?

It is a meathod of separation of 2 components of a mixture on the basis of difference in specific weights or specific

gravity.

Principle

• The material is lifted by vaccum over an inclined vibrating screen covered deck which results in the material, being suspended in the air,the heavier impurities are left behind on the screen and are discharged from the stone outlet.

• It works best when there is a large difference in SG in the minerals to be seperated.

Factors influencing choice of seperator

• Conventional Jigs

• Spirals

• Pinchued Sluices

• Centrifugal Jigs

• Centrifugal concentrators

• Shaking Tables(wet & dry)

• Mozeley gravity seperators(MGS)

Reasons to assess Gravity Separation

• To reject barren wastes

• To pre-concentrate heavy minerals

• To clean low weight yield bulk concentrates

• To scavenging plant tailings

• To generate a precious metal concentrate

Precious Metals

• To precious metals (Au & PGE).

• Lithophile metals,Rare Earth,Diamond etc.

• Separation from base metals and gangue.

• Recovery from tailings.

Applications

Base Metals(Zn,Pb,Cu) & Lithophile Metals

• Separation of base metals from gangue, especially carbaonate rocks & marbles

• Dense media is separation is the preffered processing route for diamond bulk samples

Diamonds & Mineral Sands

• Seperation of ilmenite, rutile &monazite from beach sand.

• Separation of eudialyte and monzonite from gangue

Industrial Minerals

• Separation of graphite from mica

• Sepation of muscovite from gangue

• Separation of kaolinite from muscovite

• Silica cleaning

Capabilities

• SGS can provide bench scale flowsheet development, pilot scale testing and plant audit and optimisation services, depending on your need s of your project or faculty.

• Depending the scope of the project, all of our metallurgical facilities offer bench scale & restricted pilot scale testing.

Why use gravity separation?

• Most well-proven and accepted tecnique of concentrating minerals

• High effieciency and low cost

• Quickly generate o precious metal concentrate that can be sold into the market

• Provide better security for small volume high value concentrates.

• Low capital and operating cost

• New equipment enhances the range of separations possible

Conclusion

• Due to its low cost capital investment in industrial setup & efficiency as compare to other separation meathod it is far more benificial.Apart from low emissions of toxic waste in the atmosphere and the surroundings it also heips to remove viable or valuable components fom recycling mixture like metal from plastic, rubber from plastic, different grades of plastic.
