A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

The Presentation of the Lord February 2, 2020

“Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen Christ of the Lord. He came in the spirit into the temple and when the parents brought in the child Jesus…he took Him into his arms and blessed God…” How many times have we been to the cele-bration of a baptism. As a child is presented to the Lord, he is not just baptized, but the same Lord who was in the temple for Simeon, comes to the child and those present for this wonderful meeting. Rather than attend and pray during the bap-tism, try to realize that there is new life being born before our eyes. The person becomes a dwelling place for God, to begin a life long journey as a disci-ple. He leaves the church a temple of the Spirit, who moved Simeon also to be there with Jesus’ parents. Rather than take Him into our arms, may we take Him into our hearts and present Him to the world in which we live.

Something that I learned from my parents was to be always grateful, I know how important is to repeat the word “Thanks” as many times as necessary. For that rea-son, being aware of this necessity of thankfulness, I want to start this little note giving thanks to the Almighty God for all I have received from Him and then to all of you at Saint James parish for welcoming me into your family.

I really have to confess how grateful am I now for all the blessings that I have received over the years; about seven years ago, I had the opportunity to come to this country to finish with my studies of theology, I went to Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Con-necticut and at the same time I was assigned to Saint Jo-seph parish in West Milford as a seminarian and where I also served as deacon for one year. Finally, I was ordained to the priesthood July 1, 2017 by Bishop Arthur Serratelli, in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Paterson.

Days after my ordination, I got my first assign-ment as parochial Vicar at St. Michael Church in Netcong, where I served for two years and a half. During those years at Saint Michael, I met so many people and I had the op-portunity to share my faith with them, bringing them clos-er to Christ and to each other. Now, I have the privilege of being assigned to your community to continue my priestly ministry as Parochial Vicar of Saint James of the Marches Parish.

My journey with you has begun and with a great joy I want to say Thanks again to all of you, the Saint James’s Family and Fr. Marc, for allowing me to be with you. I am very glad for having come to know you and begining to be part of your spiritual lives. This is one of the greatest privileges of our ministry as priests. I hope to share with you many celebrations, in which we can give new life to our faith and increase our joy for the gospel.

May the Lord bless you abundantly; you are all in my prayers.

Fr. Henry Pinto

January 6, 2020 Dear Reverend Marc Mancini, This is to express our sincere gratitude to you and the people of St. James Parish for welcoming Sr. Lois Swen & Sr. Emily Wureh to your parish family on be-half of our congregation. We sincerely thank you for your prayers & the collections made as a result of the Mission appeal. Please be informed that we received a check from the Mission Office of the Diocese of Paterson in the amount of $1,710 as funds raised from the mission talk. We appreciated your support. Indeed, we are grateful. Rest assured that the money received will be help-ful to the women, men and children under our spiritual and pastoral care. Thank you so much and may God great-ly bless you and the faithful for being generous to the uni-versal mission of Christ. “Forever let us sing the good-ness of the Lord.” Kindly be assured of our prayers. Again, we are grateful. Sincerely, Sr. Edith Wallace Superior General Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family, Liberia
