PRESENTATION OF CHRIST
GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH
CURRENT MAY 2019
Dear Parish Family,
Christ is Risen!
This joyous proclamation reminds us that we have made it through Great Lent and Holy Week to Pascha. While the Fast may be over, the work of proclaiming our Risen Lord to all is just beginning. Part of spreading this joyous news is living our Lord’s directive to love another. Everywhere we go, and especially each time we come to church, we see that there are many around us in need of His love.
But how can we help? It was recently said that we are “blessed to give” to those in need. We should understand this phrase in two ways. The first being that there are many opportunities to show the Lord’s love through giving. Of course, we are all called to support the ministries of our Church by fulfilling our annual Stewardship contribution.
But there is also the work of our vibrant Philoptochos and Outreach Ministry. Both of these are opportunities to receive the blessings that come from being a part of the Lord’s work.
Still there is another understanding of being “blessed to give.” Everything we have received is from the Lord, Who is the Creator of all things. Some of us are blessed with time, some with talent, and some with treasure. Some of us are blessed with a combination thereof.
There are also those who lack the things that we may have. The Lord has given us our individual blessings so that they may pass through us to those who are without. When we allow ourselves to be a conduit of God’s gifts to others, we spread the joyous news of the Risen Christ through our generosity. We are blessed with time, talent, and treasure so that we may give it to others.
We will greet each other with “Christ is Risen” until the Feast of the Ascension, but the work of showing that He is Risen will continue after. There are numerous ways to live out the Good News. They range from offering a warm meal to someone in need, to offering a smile warm smile to a visitor at our annual Festival. Try out a ministry or two, see where you fit in, and proclaim the joy and love of the Resurrection to all!
See you at Church,
Fr. Dean
A Note from President and Stewardship
Chairman Steve Markantone
I, like everyone else, cannot
wait for summer. The days
are longer and warmer; not to
mention the flowers, and
trees. Everything seems to
come to life at this time of
year. Whether it is kids in
sports, summer vacations, or just catching up with neighbors there always seems to
be so much to do. I know the daily routine completely changes. But it is important
not to forget what is truly important in our lives. God does not take the summer off
and neither does the church. There is still so much going on at Ypapanti with the
church ministries, summer picnic, and fellowship on Sundays. In the bat of an eye the
Food Festival will be upon us. Preparation has already begun. We wish you and your
family a safe and happy summer. Please make attending church a family priority.
