GHOSTJacopo Brogiotti - KUK9SM Project for a park coatrack
Sources of inspiration : Art
The idea of my coatrack is based on the effect of alienation.
It’s the sensation provoked by some phenomena that doesn’t normally happen, so, as soon as you see them, you wander how could those exist.
The process of perception works sothat when we watch some phenomenawe see at first something that is alreadyin our mind, so we classify it accordingto pre-existing concepts. It’s only at a second sight that we realizethe real essence of the phenomena, likethe shape of an object and its features.
Contemporary art has been playing onthat topic. And most of the smartest design projects, graphic and advertisingplay on this as well.Because this is one of the most efficient ways to get things stuck on our memory.

The coatrack
When you look at this object, at rst you seea human gure, then you realize it’a s dummy, but you still wonder how can it stand, because it’s only made by clothes.
But, at a third, more carefull sight, you realize that there is an internal structure, made by a metal grid.
MATERIALS
I decided to use a annel shirt because its foldsand drapes create a feeling of life and movement. Also the pants are not standing still, but are fullof wrinkles.
I smeared all the clothes with fabric hardener, andthen with waterproof paint, because the coatrackis meant to stand outdoor.
In the end I vernished the iron basement with black satin spray, so to prevent it from rust.
Production : techniques and materials
In order to create the structure, I borroweda torso and some legs from a dummy, so I modelled the iron wire around them to have the right shape.
The grid was made by two kind of iron wire, 1,2mmand 2mm, so to be not that much heavy, but strong enough.
Each welding point was made by hand with threedierent techniques : spot welding, metal inertgas welding and oxy-acetylene welding.
That’s why the entire process took pretty long time.
