• To design an efficient RFID Application Development Suite

• File format to specify simple behaviours of RFID tags, readers and linked devices

• Design, implement and evaluate three linked applications

• Authoring Tool

• Simulator

• Runtime Player

THE PROBLEM

Page 4: PRESENTATION DAY Group ID: gp09-cmg Speaker: Matthew Albers RFID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT SUITE

• Use of XML and Java

• Zipping of files

• Given an .rfid file extension

• Design the three applications

• Drag and drop usage in the applications

• Association of tags with behaviours

THE SOLUTION

Page 5: PRESENTATION DAY Group ID: gp09-cmg Speaker: Matthew Albers RFID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT SUITE

• Creation of the XML file

• Creation of behaviours

• Associate tags with them

• Editing the behaviours view

• All related files get zipped up

AUTHORING TOOL

Page 6: PRESENTATION DAY Group ID: gp09-cmg Speaker: Matthew Albers RFID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT SUITE

• Simulates the “playing” of files

• Independent of hardware

• Loads an .rfid file

• Displays all tags and their behaviours

• Drag and drop one onto the RFID tag reader

• “Plays” the behaviour

SIMULATOR

Page 7: PRESENTATION DAY Group ID: gp09-cmg Speaker: Matthew Albers RFID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT SUITE

• “Plays” the RFID files

• Relies on use of the RFID hardware and linked devices

• Links with the Simulator

RUNTIME PLAYER

Page 8: PRESENTATION DAY Group ID: gp09-cmg Speaker: Matthew Albers RFID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT SUITE

• Generally successful

• Time plan was not followed very closely

• Issue with video compatibility with Java

• No major group working issues

• Suite can be used in a wide variety of areas

• For example, as part of an interactive museum exhibit
