Create a psychologically and phisically safe environment.

Use one language consistently. At the beginning, it is acceptable for students

to use the first language. Speak slowly and articulate clearly. Use an appropiate level of language.

Supporting language learning in content classes

Use facial expressions, gestures and pictures to reinforce meaning.

Repetition is required. Make it meaningful. Provide a variety of language models. Create a wealth of opportunities to use the

language.

Communication is of primary importance. Create a wide variety of opportunities to

develop all four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Work systematically to build equal status for languages used in the school.

Set high, but realistic expectations. Find ways of recognizing student`s effort

and success.

How teachers and students use the language in CLIL classroom ?

• The language in the CLIL classroom is a place where students can develop skills in oral and written expression .• The CLIL classroom should provide with opportunities for interaction between teacher and students.

Consider the language used for: Activate prior knowledge Introduce new ideas Encourage students to collaborate Develop the students understanding

Key concepts:

Trying to find out if there is any difficulty in subject and content.

Helping students to develop thinking skills and make links.

Encouraging creative conversation. Monitoring learning ( watching and

listening to the students in their classroom work ) responds to learning needs .

Developing our questioning skills . to encourage dialogue with our students .

Developing the ability to choose the right question for the right task .

Asking closed questions (those with only one correct answer ) .

How can we develop our language classroom?

Activities

We are going to explain a lesson about the human body and all the class should be attentive to the explanation to respond and perform the following activities we have for you.

Activity 1.

Making decisions. Remembering.

With this activity, we have worked:

We are going to distribute a record and you have to complete the text with the words above.

Activity 2.

You're going to divide the class in two groups.

Each group has to write about seven questions with three possible answers and only one is correct, on the subject of the skeleton.

After, each group asks questions to the rival team.

Activity 3.

Talking in public. Interaction between students.

Remembering. Content review.

With this activity, we have worked:

We have two different types of activities: The first Students had to listen and memorize. The second Students had to interact with each other on

the issue that we had explained.

In CLIL classes children need the second type of activities.

Students need to have plenty of opportunities for oral interaction. We do not learn to speak a language simply by listening, reading or writing.
