DRUG ADDICTION

Drug addiction is one of the most devastating of all psychological and physical disorders that can affect a family.

Is important to understand what drug addiction is and how it affects the human

brain.

Schizophrenia

Many people addicted to drugs may suffer from multiple disorders,

including:

Bipolar disorder or other major depressive disorder.

Post-traumatic stress disorder or anxiety disorder.

Low self-esteem or negative body image.

There are many classes and types of drugs that can cause an addiction problem.The classes of drugs are broken down into the following categories:

Stimulants (cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, amphetamine)

Depressants (opiates including heroin,

hydrocodone and others)

Hallucinogens (LSD, psilocybin, PCP and

others)

Inhalants

Each type of drug comes with its own set of socioeconomic and short- and long-term health effects.

¿What Leads to Addiction?

Drug addiction is a chronic brain

disease with many possible factors – psychological, biological and social – that can increase the risk of addiction.

These factors include:

The lack of a healthy, nurturing home environment or the presence of a chaotic lifestyle.

Influences and activities outside the

home environment include inappropriate classroom behavior and association with peers involved in the use of drugs.

The medicines used to treat medical conditions with pain management or medications for mental diseases can lead to a dependence, abuse and ultimately to addiction.

The Effects

of Drug Addiction

The physical effects of drug addiction,

drug vary, but may include heart rhythm irregularities and heart attacks, shortness of breath and respiratory arrest, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, weakness, seizures and memory loss .

Psychological effects can include depression, hallucinations, paranoia and aggression.

Social effects are often noticed by

family and friends of someone addicted to drugs. If you recognize a change in aggressiveness, selfishness, lying or a lack of interest in usual activities, you may be observing or experiencing the results of drug addiction.
