The Partnership Post Follow us
November 2019
Starting November 18, 2019, Microsoft will begin the activation of additional security safeguards. This
additional security safeguards can help partners secure their tenants as well as customers, and help
mitigate security threats by preventing unauthorized access.
Upon activation, users in the partner tenant will be requested to complete multi-factor authentication (MFA)
verification when performing any admin on behalf of (AOBO) operations. Learn more details here. The
activation of security safeguards will be extended to additional scenarios and users later with further notice.
If you haven’t completed the implementation, please do so immediately to avoid any potential business
disruptions. Partners who do not implement the security requirements may put their participation in the CSP
program at risk.
Be sure to carefully review the security requirements using the step-by-step guide. Work with your global
admin to check the progress of your security requirements regularly for each of your tenants in Partner
Center and to ensure your organization stays up to date. Visit Partner Center security requirements status
page to identify your progress and key areas you can take actions. Consult with a Control Panel Vendor
(CPV) if you are using a CPV solution.
Implement partner security requirements immediately to safeguard your business
Applicable to:
• All partner organizations participating in the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program
that transact using Microsoft commercial cloud services:
• Direct Bill Partners
• Indirect Providers
• Indirect Resellers

individuals in your organization who may need to take action to implement these security requirements.
Note: These new partner security requirements are included in the updated Microsoft Partner Agreement that
became available on September 1, 2019. The same contractual requirements are in place for advisors.
Review these resources and follow the steps to implement the requirements:
Digital technologies are fundamentally changing how organizations create value. Our customers rely on
trusted partners with industry-specific skills and experiences to provide specialized assistance and services
that accelerate this digital transformation and ultimately drive business and growth opportunities for our
partners. According to the latest Forrester study, partners are saying that focusing investments on building
new managed services and value-added IP offerings has helped them achieve higher gross margins (up to
80% by year three).
Microsoft strives to enable partners to grow and become trusted advisors for our customers through
product innovations, better tooling, and access to new business opportunities. In that spirit, we shared our
plans to evolve our commerce platform to streamline the customer buying experience, and to broaden your
influence and ability to help your customers on their digital transformation journey.
Today, we’re excited to share capabilities and resources we’re making available to you to get you started
planning the transition to the new commerce experience for Azure in the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP)

Announcing Azure Arc – new hybrid capabilities that enable innovation anywhere
Enterprises rely on a hybrid technology approach to take advantage of both their on-premises investment
and cloud innovation. As more business operations and applications expand to include edge devices and
multiple clouds, hybrid capabilities must enable apps to run seamlessly across on-premises servers, public
clouds, and edge devices, while providing consistent management across all distributed locations.
From the beginning, Azure has been built to enable seamless hybrid capabilities, and we continue to
deliver on our customers’ needs to enable purposeful innovation. Today, we take a significant leap
forward to enable customers to move from hybrid cloud to truly deliver innovation anywhere with Azure
Arc.
Azure Arc is a set of technologies that unlocks new hybrid scenarios for customers by bringing Azure
services and management to any infrastructure. Available in preview starting today, it comes with a range
of powerful capabilities:

• Run Azure data services anywhere. Azure Arc will enable Azure data services, such as Azure SQL
DB and Azure DB for PostgreSQL Hyperscale, to run on-premises, at the edge, and in multi-cloud
environments.
• Extend Azure management and security to any infrastructure. Hundreds of millions of Azure
resources are organized, governed, and secured daily by customers using Azure management.
Azure Arc extends these proven management capabilities to Linux and Windows servers, as well
as Kubernetes clusters, on any infrastructure across datacenters, clouds, and edge devices.
• Expand Azure Stack offerings for any edge. Today, we are expanding our Azure Stack portfolio
to offer customers even more flexibility with the addition of Azure Stack Edge. Azure Stack
Edge, previously known as Azure Data Box Edge, is a managed, AI-enabled edge appliance that

Azure IoT Central provides a complete and robust platform that handles the “plumbing” of IoT solutions. It is
by no means an end-to-end solution. The value of IoT Central is brought to life when solution builders
leverage it to connect and manage their devices. Azure IoT Central reduces the cost of building and
maintaining a PaaS-based solution by providing a fully managed platform. Today we’re announcing several
major updates to Azure IoT Central
• New app templates for industry-focused enablement: We are releasing 11 new industry app
templates designed to illustrate the types of solutions our partners and customers can build
across retail, healthcare, government, and energy.
• Expanding IoT Central portfolio with IoT Edge: Businesses can now run cloud intelligence
directly on IoT devices at the edge, managed by Azure IoT Central.
• Seamless device connectivity with IoT Plug and Play: Solution builders building with Azure IoT
Central can select from a range of Azure IoT Pre-Certified Plug and Play devices and quickly
connect them to the cloud.
• Range of actions within the platform: A user can define rules on device data streams that trigger
no-code (Microsoft Flow) or low-code (Azure Logic Apps) actions. A solution builder could also
configure more complex actions.
• Extensibility through data export: Continuous Data Export from Azure IoT Central can be used to
integrate data streams directly into Azure PaaS services, such as Azure Blob Storage for data
retention or Azure Event Hub for building rich processing pipelines for IoT data.
• Public APIs to access features, application repeatability, manageability and scale through
multitenancy, user access control through custom user roles, device and data scale, and pricing
updates.

Late last year, we announced the preview of some of the foundational capabilities of our industrial
IoT analytics platform with a scalable time series storage for trending decades of data, semantic
model support to describe domain-specific metadata, and enhanced analytics APIs and UX. Today,
we are announcing the following new capabilities:
• Warm and cold analytics support that builds on top of our existing preview and provides
retention-based data routing between warm and cold stores.
• A flexible analytics platform that enables attaching a customer-owned Azure Data Lake
to Azure Time Series Insights for data archival, thereby allowing customers to have
ownership of their IoT data.
• Rich query APIs and UX to support interpolation, new scalar and aggregate functions,
categorical variables, scatter plots, and time shifting of time series signals for in-depth
analysis.
• Significant scale and performance improvements at all layers of the solution, including
ingestion, storage, query, and metadata/model to support customers’ IoT solution needs.
• Azure Time Series Insights Power BI connector that enables customers to take the
queries they do in Azure Time Series Insights directly into Power BI.

Become a Modern Workplace security myth buster
The myth that Microsoft isn’t a security vendor continues to pervade IT departments. But the fact is, nothing
could be further from the truth. Microsoft is recognized as a leader in multiple security-related Gartner
Magic Quadrants, the Forrester Wave for Endpoint Security, and by AV testing firms, such as AV TEST, AV
Comparatives, and SE Labs.
The next time you hear a customer repeat this myth, use one of the many independent sources available to
firmly establish Microsoft’s security credentials.
