Notes of InterestStorey Name Preseason All-Conference

- Senior PG Cortney Storey has been named to 2017-18 Big South Preseason All-Conference team. She was the 2014-15 Freshman of the Year, 2015-16 Big South Honorable Mention and 2016-17 Big South Second Team honoree.

Storey and Miles Nearing 1,000- Seniors Cortney Storey and Janie Miles both enter their senior campaigns with a reasonable shot of surpassing 1,000 career points.

- Storey enters with 875 career points and a 9.5 points per game average for her career. She also has 346 assists and161stealsgivingherashotatbecomingthefirstBlueHose player of the Division I era to surpass 1,000 points, 400 assists and 200 steals.

- Miles, the reigning Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year enters the season with 787 points and an 8.5 points per game average over her career.

Blue Hose Go for 10+ Again- PC enters this season with three straight 10+ win Big South campaigns. They have also achieved that feat four of thelastfiveoverall.

- Overall they have won 10+ conference games in 13 of the last 30 seasons ( 9 in the South Atlantic Conference, 4 in the Big South Conference).

Scouting the Bruins- UCLA enters the 2017-18 season ranked #7 in the coaches poll and #8 in the AP poll. They are coming off a 25-9 record and made it to the Sweet 16.

Scouting the Aztecs- The Aztec’s are coming off an 11-19 record in 2016-17. They went 6-12 in the Mountain West Conference and finished9th.

- San Diego State returns 78.9% of their scoring from last season and will look to McKynzie Fort who averaged 15.9 ppg in ‘16-17. For her career she averages 13.4 ppg, she has 207 assists and 121 steals in her career.

PC Goes West Third Year in a Row- In 2015-16 the Blue Hose traveled to play the Uni-versity of Colorado, in 2016-17 then traveled to Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington. This season PC opens its season on a two game west coast trip to San Diego State and UCLA.

Todd SteelmanHead Coach • Second Season • John Brown ‘89, UNC ‘95

Todd Steelman was named Presbyterian College’s seventh women’s basketball head coach on April 27, 2016, and is entering his second year in 2017-18.In his first year at PC, Steelman coached his team to a 13-18 overall record, including a 10-8 mark in Big South Conference play, and the program’s second appearance in the Big South Championship Semifinals. The year saw three players named to the Preseason All-Conference Second Team, three Player of the Week honors, an All-Tournament Team selection, an All-Conference Second Team honoree, and the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Steelman earned his first win as a Head Coach with a 69-62 final at UNC Greensboro on December 15. The Blue Hose defeated Longwood 65-55 on January 3 for Steelman’s first conference win.Steelman came to PC from the University of Maine, where he spent four seasons as asso-ciate head coach focusing on working with the Maine posts as well as all aspects of game planning and film breakdown. Steelman was the team’s community relations manager with a focus on engaging the team’s outreach and involvement with community service proj-ects.Steelman joined the Black Bears after spending his previous 10 years as an associate and assistant coach at the Division I level. Prior to Maine, Steelman was the associate head coach at Ball State from 2010-12 where he was involved in all aspects of the program in-cluding the coordination of his defensive philosophy, directing the scouting aspects of the

program, recruiting, and developing the post-players. While at Ball State, Steelman was selected as one of the Top 25 Mid-Major Assistant Coaches by CollegeInsider.com.Before his time at Ball State, the Hickory, NC native spent five years as an assistant with Clemson. With the Tigers, Steelman worked with both the post and perimeter player development, broke down film, and played a large part in recruiting and evaluation of pro-spective student-athletes.Steelman began his Divison I coaching career as an assistant at Rice University from 2003-05. While at Rice, Steelman was again involved in all aspects of coaching an NCAA Divison I program.Along with his time as an associate and assistant coach, Steelman has directed many sports camps while also coaching various high school athletics from 1994-2003, including being named the 1998 and 2002 Triad Athletic Conference Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year. Steelman was the Cresset Christian Academy Athletic Director in Durham, N.C. from 2001-03 and also from 1997-99. Steelman was the head varsity girls basketball coach at the Academy from 1994-99 and again from 2001-03. While coach-ing at Cresset Christian Academy, he managed the team to five-straight undefeated conference seasons and three-straight state cham-pionship game appearances. In between his time at Cresset Christian Academy, Steelman was the head varsity girls’ basketball coach

at Kerr-Vance Academy where he guided the squad to the school’s first ever conference championship and state tournament bid.A member of both the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Steelman graduated with a B.S. in Broadcasting from John Brown in 1989 before do-ing graduate studies work in Recreation Sports Administration at North Carolina from 1993-95. While at North Carolina, Steelman worked as a volunteer with the 1993-94 NCAA Championship women’s basketball team.Steelman and his wife, Tracy, are the proud parents of their three children, Matthew (a recent graduate of the men’s basketball team at Wofford), Hannah, and Jonathan.

Megan BucklandAssistant Coach • Second Season • North Carolina ‘15

Buckland, a native of High Point, N.C., is entering her second year as an Assistant Coach at PC in 2017-18. She serves as the team’s recruiting coordinator, handling correspondence with potential recruits and high school coaches. Buckland is responsible for the coordinating of future non-conference schedules. Additionally, she helps coordinate the team’s camps and has completed her Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from Liberty University.

Buckland came to PC in June of 2016 after serving as the video coordinator for the North Carolina women’s basketball program for a season.

Buckland was a four-year member of the North Carolina Tar Heel women’s basketball team, before graduating in May 2015.

Buckland’s career was limited by several injuries that decreased her playing time going back to her freshman season of 2011-12. When healthy, she was a reliable three-pointer shooter that converted nearly 33 percent of her career attempts.

As a redshirt freshman during the 2012-13 season, Buckland averaged 5.7 points as the primary scoringoptionoffthebench,playingin35games.Sheledtheteamandranked11thintheAtlanticCoast Conference that year after shooting 35.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc. She posted a career-high 19 points in a win over Georgia Tech and scored a team-high 17 points against Delaware in the NCAA Tournament.

While in high school at Bishop McGuinnes she was part of three state championships.

Jordan HiattAssistant Coach • First Year • Lenoir Rhyne ‘16

JordanHiatt is inherfirstseasononToddSteelman’sstaffasassistantcoach. Previouslyat theUniversity of Indianapolis, she was hired in July of 2017.

Hiatt spent a year as a Graduate Assistant for the Indianapolis women’s basketball team. While there she was responsible for many aspects of the program, including logistics, academics, camps, and recruiting.

Hiatt was a four-year letterman at Lenoir-Rhyne where she served as a captain for her last two seasons. The team, ranked in the USA Top 25 in 2013, earned a bid to the NCAA tournament in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 Lenoir-Rhyne earned South Atlantic Co-Championship honors and hosted the NCAA Regional as a #1 seed.

Hiatt earned All-Freshman Team honors in 2013, and was a member of the Dean’s List from 2014-2016, and on the South Atlantic Conference Commissioners Honor Roll for all four years. Hiatt was a member of the Arktos Chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society where she served at Vice President, a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Student-Athlete Honor Society where she served as Secretary, and was a women’s basketball representative for the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

A native of Mount Airy, N.C., Hiatt graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and a minor in Business.
