Preparing for Computer-Based Testing for Grades 4 & 5 The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) Office of Assessments is committed to helping districts effectively plan for the administration of Grades 4 and 5 computer-based tests. The tests are designed to be administered on the computer and feature a variety of interactive questions that are more engaging and aligned with 21st century teaching and learning practices. The testing calendar has been extended an additional week to provide schools with more flexibility administering computer-based testing. In addition, the following tools have been developed to prepare students, educators, and technology coordinators:
1. The OSTP Grades 4 & 5 Readiness Tool provides educators and students access to test-drive the iTester platform.
URL: https://okpracticetest.measuredprogress.org/student/login
Username: oklahoma Password: student
*All available online tools are present for the readiness tool to allow access for students that will need IEP/504/EL accommodations (e.g., color contrast, text-to-speech). The options screen will not display to students during the operational assessment.
2. The OSTP Site Technology Capacity Tool is designed to provide technology coordinators with a quantitative picture of device and bandwidth capacity.
How to Use: On page 3, please enter the values for each input metric (blue boxes) in the 'Value' column in the table on the next page to calculate your school site capacity. After entering the values, you will notice that the results are updated based on the values you provided.

Preparing for Computer-Based Testing for Grades 4 & 5 Please note: Districts experiencing extenuating circumstances related to device capacity issues or Internet-bandwidth issues may submit a one-year waiver request to the Oklahoma State Board of Education to administer the Grade 4 and/or Grade 5 via paper. Any district requesting such a waiver must provide justification and evidence by December 1, 2018 to the OSDE that the district lacks device capacity or Internet-bandwidth to administer the Grades 4 and/or Grade 5 online. In addition, schools administering only paper-based tests will complete testing during the three-week window published in the state testing calendar.
ValueMetricsTotal number of devices at site used for testing
Total average test size (in MB; this is the same for all grades and contents)
District Bandwidth (1 Gbps = 1000 Mbps)
Total number of tested students at site
Testing window (in weeks)
Number of tested grades at site
Tests or sessions given at site
Results for above input values:Prerequisite: Convert district bandwidth from Mbps (mega bits per seconds) to MBps (mega byte per seconds) to calculate measurement units
Number of students bandwith will allow
Approx. number of students which can test simultaneously, based on bandwidth and number of devices. Note: This does not take into account bandwidth used by other users (i.e. faculty and staff) during test administration.
Approx. total number of testing sessions
Approx. number test sessions per week
Approx. number of test sessions needed per day, testing 5 days a week
Approx. number of test sessions needed per day, testing 4 days a week
Approx. number of test sessions needed per day, testing 3 days per week

How to Use: To help calculate your school site capacity, please enter the values for each input metric (blue boxes) in the 'Value' column in the table below. After entering the values, you will notice that the results are updated based on the values you provided. Note: This is an approximation to provide a quantitative picture of device and bandwidth capacity. See Exemplars on the next pages.

Small School Exemplar
This is a K-8 site, so there
are 5 online tested grades. This school has chosen to give
only one section of one test
each day. Ex: 5th grade ELA is 3
sessions and tested over 3 days
Although the bandwidth will
support 94 test takers
simultaneously, the site is
restricted to the 20 devices
they use for testing.
Since the site only has the
technology to test 20 students
simultaneously, conducting
test sessions 5 days a week or
4 days a week are viable
options for this site.
Medium/Large School Exemplar
This is a 6-8 site, so there
are 3 online tested grades.
This school has chosen to
complete each test in one day,
with the exception of Grade 8
ELA. They have elected to
complete the writing portion
(Section 1) the day after
completing the Multiple-choice
portion (Sections 2 and 3)
Although the bandwidth will
support more test takers
simultaneously, the site is
restricted to the 100 devices
they use for testing.
Since the site only has the
technology to test 100
students simultaneously,
conducting test sessions 5 days
a week is the only viable
option.
