• Independent living.• Increased opportunity in a wide variety of setting within the college as well as in the community and
beyond. Students develop social skills to maximise their independence with support.
• Healthy Living / Emotional Wellbeing• With support from the local authority we have introduced more sport.
• Links with special schools.• Planning programmes around learner needs, interests and aspirations.• Supported transition with support from the Local Authority and Local Community groups.

Developments at North Hertfordshire College
• Expanding the Local Offer EG. New PMLD provision in planning stage to commence 2018-19
• Parent Forum (10 parents/carers) established – contributing to Local Offer
• Specialist Springboard provision for young people on autistic spectrum and with associated communication needs and or mental health difficulties delivered in Watford and Stevenage
• Transition Support Worker’s role has expanded to include both LD and SEBD schools across the whole of Herts. All young people progressing to college last September who were supported by the Transition Worker, have been successful
Developments at North Hertfordshire College
• Independent Travel trainer and travel buddy trained 30 young people since September 2014
• Highly effective partnership work with Herts County Councilto implement the SEND legislation
• Enterprise opportunities underpin the whole curriculum providing all our young people with employability skills preparing them for adulthood
Supported Housing at Briar Patch Letchworth
• Supported Housing in partnership with Genesis Housing Association
• 2 day Independent Living Skills programme delivered at Briar Patch including money management, community and leisure, personal development, budgeting, menu planning, shopping
• 14 students currently live at Briar Patch and attend a course at the North Hertfordshire College

Independent living
• Set up a flat where young people with Autism can develop their Independent Living Skills
• Access to work experience at a Wood recycling yard, transferring these skills into an an Enterprise, using the garden area next to the flat.

Healthy Living, Emotional Wellbeing, Community Inclusion…
• New Health and Wellbeing Programme, including Men's Health run by the Nurses
• Increased access to Sports, including the opportunity to gain a Basketball Coaching award
• Enterprise in conjunction with fund raising for community facilities – recognised during the recent Mayors Pride Awards

Transition Support Worker’s role • Expanded to include both LD and SEBD schools across
the whole of Herts. • Increase in numbers as seen the provision of two new
Transition classes, at Landmark and Supported Learning, offering a 5 day programme for 16 year olds
Programme offer • Revised in consultation with students and parents
in order that we embrace the focus within the SEN reforms.
Other developments
Expanded Autistic provision to meet need
• Increase in those travel trained – 34 compared to 23 last year
• Exploring working with Herts ASC to set up a residential provision adjacent to the College
• Working with Herts CC to support the development of person centred day services.
• With quality acknowledged through the acquisition of NAS Accreditation ‘Each student is dealt with on an individual basis as opposed to one size fits all’
