Panipat Institute of Engineering & Technology (PIET) was established by the Vidhyapeeth Education Trust in response to the acute deficiency of higher education institutes in the State of Haryana. The founders had a clear vision to provide world-class education and research with a view to serve the cause of society admirably. For the achievement of this cherished goal, PIET has covered many milestones of success till today.

When we look at some of the best Engineering Institutes in National Capital Region, PIET stands out a clear leader. A multidisciplinary institute affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and approved by AICTE, New Delhi provides Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Engineering and Management. PIET has consistently pushed the bar of excellence to garner a niche for itself amongst the top ten Engineering Institutes in Delhi/NCR, in the field of engineering education.

PIET being in the league of top 10 engineering colleges in Delhi NCR, attracts a large number of companies to its campus for placements. It has the best placements record in Haryana.

Consistently rated amongst the top engineering colleges in Haryana year after year, the institute is a big brand to reckon-with. The CSE department of the institute has been accredited by the National Body of Accreditation (NBA) thereby proving the fact PIET remains one of the best institutes in the country for professional education.

PIET has an active incubation centre to encourage and nurture budding entrepreneurs. We strongly believe that it is as important to develop job-creators as it is to develop value-creators for organization

The Department of Management Studies (MBA) was established in response to the mounting need that was felt for nurturing would-be managers who could efficiently manage growing industries worldwide. The programme is designed to aid students, formalize ideas, and gaze at them logically. A combination of the rigorous research-based curriculum with an emphasis on real-life applications and experiential knowledge pushes students to discover practical business solutions using the modus operandi that developed both in and outside the classroom.

This course imparts a panorama of the global business world, enriching the students and encouraging them to think beyond their horizons, identify out-of-the-box solutions, and challenge the status quo. The focus here is not on producing business managers per se, but socially responsible business luminaries. MBA @ PIET seeks to develop a blend of seasoned professionals in a widearray of sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunication, retail, FMCG, banking, logistics and capital markets to mention but a few.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL- SEEDLINGIn a country like India, where there is a huge potential for new businesses to flourish, thanks to the heterogeneous nature of its society, culture, economy and demography and the high GDP growth rate of the past few years, becoming an entrepreneur should be a natural choice for any young Graduate/ Post-Graduate student. The current Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi has also provided impetus to the entrepreneurial activity in the country through the launching of the ‘Startup India’ scheme which provides a host of benefits and removes a lot of entry barriers for a fresh startup.

HR Conclave @ PIET

Seminar & Panel Discussion on“Funding Challenges and Opportunitiesfor MSMEs in Haryana”

It is in sync with the above facts that Panipat Institute of Engineering and Technology started ‘Seedling’-the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) at its premises on 9th June 2016. Through tie-ups with MSME, hiring reputed professionals from the corporate world as consultants and utilizing the knowledge, skills, and experience of our senior faculty members who have a rich corporate exposure, we aspire to become one of the few Business and Engineering Schools in the world and the foremost in our country, which churns out more entrepreneurs than managers/ engineers from its passing out batches. With the incorporation of “Seedling”, the activities of the Institute on this front have further gathered steam which has resulted in a number of activities/initiatives being taken by the ED Cell. These fall into the following broad categories:

Page 11: PREPARING BUSINESS STRATEGISTS WHO ARE READY FOR THE … · • To strengthen the conceptual and analytical abilities required for effective decision making. • To evolve with the

An increasing number of graduates are opting out of placements to pursue their own ventures. They are full of innovative ideas and often look for business incubators to take these ideas to the next stage.

To make matters easy for its students, PIET is launching its incubation centre to help bring business ideas to life. Now, start-ups can be incubated within the institute.

The incubator cell will provide specific facilities to encourage entrepreneurship on campus. It includes the required physical infrastructure as well as the resources and intellectual capital required to gain traction which includes capital and funds, strategy formulation, access to angel investors, dedicated faculty support and interaction with successful entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

With the help of incubation cell, PIET will be encouraging more and more students to take the entrepreneurial route.

MentoringThe cell provides mentoring from industry experts, bankers, officials from MSME, and successful entrepreneurs to budding start-ups.

FundingProvision of seed capital and assistance for bank loans to promisingprojects by having tie-ups with Venture Capitalist (VC) firms and leading banks.

Organizing competitions on innovation and creativityConsidering the fact that new business ventures that run on fresh ideas and an innovative approach have a greater likelihood for success, such competitions promote out-of-the-box thinking among the students.

In the last few years PIET had developed itself as a preferred destination for campus recruitment. Companies are in constant need of skilled professionals. To resolve the problem of employability and reduce the ever-growing need of trained manpower, recruiting companies have started expecting trained students right from the start. After many discussions & Brainstorming sessions with companies and students, we are able to work out the possibility to develop an industry ready program for students as per the demands of major recruiters.

Major Objective of the program:

– In sync with selection process of majority of visiting companies – Training as per demand of major recruiters. – Conceptual clarity and understanding of basics. – Practical orientation to develop employable professionals. – Support students to get selected after completion of training sessions.

Once trained, these students have a better chance to clear the interviews of companies and our focus is to ensure availability of employable recruits for our visiting recruiters. The focus on skill development & employability enhancements starts from the first semester itself and gradually picks up speed over a period of time.

• To improve communication skills, students are guided to become a part of discussions, seminars, conferences etc. • To develop logical thinking, aptitude classes are regularly conducted.• Daily discussion sessions are conducted for news analysis.

PROJECT BASED LEARNINGProject Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional methodology that encourages students to learn and apply knowledge and skills through an engaging experience. PBL presents opportunities for deeper learning in-context and for the development of important skills tied to college and career readiness.

PBL has become an integral part of the teaching pedagogy at the Department of Management Studies at PIET. PBL focuses on engaging students with real-world problems. Projects require students to engage in inquiry, solution building, and product construction to help address the real-world issue or challenge presented. Project based learning requires the application of knowledge and skills, not just recall or recognition. Unlike rote learning that assesses a single fact, PBL is more complex and can be used to assess how students apply a variety of academic content in new contexts. As students engage in the work of a project they follow a process that begins with inquiry. Inquiry leads to deeper learning, not just related to academic content, but also related to the use of content in real world applications. Inquiry processes can help lead to the development of solutions that address the problem/challenge of the project and the creation of products to communicate
