The Board of Directors of Marble Retreat is pleased to announce the appointments of Mike MacKenzie as Clinical Director and Kari MacKenzie as Executive Director of Marble Retreat. Mike and Kari have been with our ministry for some time now, and they have demonstrated great clinical and administrative skills in their responsibilities. We are thrilled with their passion for this ministry and its mission: to care for hurting clergy. Steve and Patti Cappa made the decision to step down from their positions after prayerful consideration of what was best for them and for the ministry. These changes will take effect May 1, 2013. The board, the Cappas, and the MacKenzies have anticipated this transition from the Cappa era The mission of Marble Retreat is to help bring healing, hope and restoration to those in vocational Christian ministry and the Church at large through Christ-centered brief intensive counseling. Spring Edition 2013 Providing Care since 1974 Marble, Colorado to the MacKenzie era for some time. We all just assumed that the transition would occur down the road. Financial pressures have prompted the staff to conclude that the transition needed to occur now so as to lay the foundation for Marble Retreat’s future. The board agreed with the staff. It now appears that God’s timetable for this transition was much sooner than ours. Patti Cappa will work part time for the ministry during the transition period so she can mentor Kari in the intricacies of administering this ministry making the transition as seamless as possible. The Cappas are not yet certain about what God has in store for them in this next phase of their careers. They are actively pursuing several options and are hopeful for the next adventure in their lives. The MacKenzies are committed to continuing the Marble Retreat ministry as it has been developed over the years. Their burden for hurting clergy is the same burden that prompted Louis and Melissa McBurney to establish the ministry nearly 40 years ago. The board and Melissa McBurney expressed deep appreciation to the Cappas for their dedicated work in moving this ministry from the McBurney era to the MacKenzie era these last ten years. Where does Marble Retreat stand now? We have every reason to be encouraged about the future. We have as leaders of this ministry a young yet seasoned professional couple. We have a veteran and wise administrative assistant who knows about every detail of our work. We have a marvelous crew of volunteers that will help in a variety of ways, and we have a faithful band of supporters who pray for and give to this ministry. God is good and the future is bright. PREPARED IN ADVANCE For over a decade we as a couple have decided to say “Yes” to God, to go where He led. Now, God has led us to the positions of directors of Marble Retreat. Our calling, experience, education, passion, and gifting have all come together to prepare us for this time and responsibility. Little did we know when we first discovered we had a similar passion for helping Christian leaders over 12 years ago where it would lead us. We could never have imagined the great adventure God had planned. We are thrilled and honored to be a part of the future of this great ministry. We have seen what God does here in the hearts and lives of His servants and we are humbled to be an ongoing part of that work. We are so thankful for your prayers and support that have sustained this ministry and covet your prayers as we take this step into the future. We are excited to see God’s continued work in this wonderful ministry.

This newsletter is filled with a lot of news for Marble Retreat as well as our Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2011-2012. We are delighted to list the many people who have supported the ministry of Marble Retreat in many ways this last fiscal year. You can see that the number of supporters continues to be vibrant. Our volunteers have helped the ministry in many ways from supplying trees, cutting wood, cooking meals, and loaning us equipment. We thank you and wish you many blessings. Also, we have the opportunity to congratulate Doris Edwards on her recent retirement from our Board of Directors. She has worked tirelessly for 15 years to promote the cause of Marble Retreat in many capacities including President. We thank you Doris for your great love and care for all the staff and those we serve.

We are thrilled to be handing the reins of the ministry to Dr.s Mike and Kari MacKenzie. They have proven themselves to be faithful, competent and a lovely, loving couple to take Marble Retreat to the next generation of Christian workers. Steven and I have served as Directors for exactly 10 years this May 1st. It has been a sacred privilege to work with the over 900 people who have sat in the group room, played ping pong in the lodge and sat around the dining table, eating and making good and meaningful conversation. We have some plans in place for our future and many things are still yet to be worked out. We are leaning and waiting on our Lord for our next steps, full of hope and anticipation. Martin Luther’s words in his commentary on Galatians, speak to us during this time of faith alive: “Without hope faith cannot endure. On the other hand, hope without faith is blind rashness and arrogance because it lacks knowledge. Before anything else a Christian must have the insight of faith, so that the intellect may know its directions in the day of trouble and the heart may hope for better things. By faith we begin, by hope we continue.” We are excited to begin this new adventure in our lives and, of course we will update as He guides our steps!

The board, the Cappas, and the MacKenzies have anticipated this transition from the Cappa era

to the MacKenzie era for some time.
