Some say the world will end in fireSome say in ice.

Annotation

Some (Some Common People) believe that our world will end by burning in fire (Believe of Hindu and Christian Mythology) and some (Some Common People) have the idea that earth will be destroyed by flooding in ice or water (Believe of Hindu and Christian Mythology).

From what I’ve tasted of desireI hold with those who favour fire.

Annotation

But because of the experiences the poet feels that Desire (The Fire of Greed) will destroy this world in the same manner in which it may be destroyed by fire.

But if it had to perish twice,I think I know enough of hateTo say that for destruction iceIs also greatAnd would suffice.

Annotation

Poet says that he has seen the effects of hatred (Ice of Apathy or Lack of concern for others) also. This will destroy the world with double effect. Apathy kills two people – One who shows Apathy and another who suffers from Apathy.
