CONTENT DESCRIPTION

The preparatory year level A2 is a one-year full-time course providing a grounding in written and oral French. It consists of 16 hours of classes per week dedicated to practical training in writing and speaking the language, as well as an insight into cultural practices and consideration of these practices. It allows students, after passing the relevant exam, to attain the level of linguistic proficiency required to enrol on the following courses:

* Diploma in French as a foreign language, offered by the EFLE

* Bachelor of Arts degree, offered by the Faculty of Arts

* other programmes in French offered by the UNIL.

STUDY PROGRAMME

Written and oral language, multime-dia

Written and oral language courses are designed to teach written and oral French in relation to its morphology, syntax, dis-course and day-to-day use. Texts and docu-ments lay particular emphasis on the socio-cultural dimension of the French-speaking world. This module consists of 12 hours of classes per week devoted to written and oral language. Possibility of working in the multimedia centre. According to the Common European framework of refe-rence for languages (CEFR), the objective is to move up from A2 to B1.1.

Optional Program

Students choose 4 hours of weekly courses per year from a choice of sub-jects such as:

* French language in games2 hours per week in the autumn semes-ter

* Literary texts 2 hours per week per year

* Language and culture 2 hours per week per year

* Tandem With validation: 2 hours per week per year

* French language in song2 hours per week per year

* Pronunciation2 hours per week per year

* Single language dictionaries and vocabulary learning 2 hours per week per year

Admission requirements

To be admitted to this course, students must have a qualification entitling them to register with the University of Lausanne and they must enrol with the EFLE. For more information: www.unil.ch/immatWhen they join the course students are given a placement test which may result in students with an insufficient level of proficiency being asked to follow level A1 of the European framework of reference.

* Module: «Written and oral language, multimedia»: 40 ECTS credits

* Module: «Optional program»: 10 ECTS credits

* Exams: 10 ECTS credits

Exams

A written examination testing the stu-dent’s knowledge of the language, a test of writing skills and an oral comprehen-sion and expression test.
