Preparation of our Mind

Page 2: Preparation of our Mind

(NASB) 12 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1,2

Page 3: Preparation of our Mind

Romans 12:1-2 (AMP) I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view

of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Preparation of Our Mind

Page 4: Preparation of our Mind

You remember that the location where Jesus was crucified was called “Golgotha,” which meant “place of the skull.” If we will be effective in spiritual warfare, the first field of conflict where we must learn warfare is in the battleground of the mind; ie, the “place of the skull.” For the territory of the uncrucified thought-life is the beachhead of Satanic assault in our lives. To defeat the devil, we must be crucified in the place of the skull. We must be renewed in the spirit of our minds”

The Battle for our Mind!!!

Tree of Life

Source of Knowledge…..Gen.2:9

Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil

Page 6: Preparation of our Mind

Genesis 2:7-9 (AMP)Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of

the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being.8 And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden [delight]; and there He put the man whom He had formed (framed, constituted)

9. And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired—good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity.

Two Trees in the Garden

Page 7: Preparation of our Mind

Romans 8:2-6Amplified Bible (AMP)Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no

adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death

3 For God has done what the Law could not do, [its power] being weakened by the flesh [the entire nature of man without the Holy Spirit]. Sending His own Son in the guise of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, [God] condemned sin in the flesh [subdued, overcame, deprived it of its power over all who accept that sacrifice]

Mind of the Spirit

Page 8: Preparation of our Mind

4 So that the righteous and just requirement of the Law might be fully met in us who live and move not in the ways of the flesh but in the ways of the Spirit [our lives governed not by the standards and according to the dictates of the flesh, but controlled by the Holy Spirit]

5 For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and [seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit.

6 Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].

Page 9: Preparation of our Mind

1 Corinthians 2:9-16 (AMP) But, on the contrary, as the Scripture says, What eye has

not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him [[a]who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed].

10 Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the [divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man’s scrutiny].

11 For what person perceives (knows and understands) what passes through a man’s thoughts except the man’s own spirit within him? Just so no one discerns (comes to know and comprehend) the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

Mind Vs The Spirit

Page 10: Preparation of our Mind

12 Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God

13 And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit].

14 But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.

Page 11: Preparation of our Mind

15 But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him]

16 For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.

Orphan - Slave - Son

Battle Defined

Page 13: Preparation of our Mind

John 15:15(AMP)I do not call you servants (slaves)

any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.]

Relationship to God

Page 14: Preparation of our Mind

Once we started walking through the cleansing of and renewing of our mind, the biggest challenge is to destroy the mental strongholds (ungodly beliefs) that have kept bound for so many years.

Where do we get our beliefs?Life’s experiences:

both good & badFamily heritage (politics, religion, prejudices)Generational curses: all the way to AdamRepetition reinforces beliefs:

“You’ll never amount to anything”We teach (pass on) that which we are taught

…80% of a person’s thinking is negative. The power of words (see quantum physics)

The natural mind & world’s standards

Page 16: Preparation of our Mind

John 14:18(AMP)I will not leave you as orphans

[comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless]; I will come [back] to you.

Galatians 4:7(AMP)7 Therefore, you are no longer a slave

(bond servant) but a son; and if a son, then [it follows that you are] an heir by the aid of God, through Christ.

Promises From Scripture

Page 17: Preparation of our Mind

Orphan:One who has no guardian caring for them

so they are totally on their own. There main focus is survival. They are totally focused on their lack and have a poverty spirit. This results from either abandonment or a volitional rejection of authority. Looks at others only through the eyes of “what can I get out of this person”. They are forever immature emotionally & spiritually.

Orphan, Slave or Son Defined

Page 18: Preparation of our Mind

Slave:One who has a guardian or caretaker over

them but well being is only based upon performance. Their main focus is acceptance through performance. As long as I do things well, I’m cared for but the love is all conditional. Under this mindset, I become a human “doing” and not a human “being”.

Different than a “bond-slave”… Being a bond-slave is the result of a relationship that has grown into one of deep love and benevolence. One becomes a “bond-slave” through the choice of the slave, not the demand of the benefactor.

Page 19: Preparation of our Mind

Son: (Uios; mature)Is loved and appreciated for who he is, not

just for what he does. The son’s desire is to please his father in all he does, not to gain affection but because he already has it. The focus is on security because the son knows that before he is already accepted & well pleasing to his father. The son desire is to become emotionally and spiritually mature so that he can gain full use of his inheritance. No maturity, no inheritance. Does not operate in entitlement but under authority that is given by the father.

Page 20: Preparation of our Mind

Malachi 4:5-6 (NASB)“Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. 6 He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.”

Key Verse

Page 21: Preparation of our Mind

Comes From Within- Rejection

Love and acceptance are basic needs for a child to develop self-worth

If a child has no self-worth, then he will “do something” to be “worth something”

If a person doesn’t perform, than he’s worth nothing.Religion becomes law, working your way into God’s

favor. If I do enough, God will love and accept me.Pride –try to perform perfectly

Performance, perfectionism, a critical spirit, unforgiving spirit, self-centeredness trying to be perfect (the basis for a religious spirit)

Origins of Orphan & Slavery Mindset

They are both about driving, striving, working, and performing. One to get tangible needs met and the other for recognition. They produce exhaustion both in the natural & spiritual. Driven by need or guilt to perform, not out of love.

They come from a wrong view of who you think God is and a life built on lies. Orphans and slaves are spiritually bound up, emotionally hung up and relationally tied. Be free, walk in Sonship

Spirit of Orphan & Slavery

Page 49: Preparation of our Mind

Because if you don’t mature as a son, you will never receive your full inheritance…

Galatians 4:4(AMP)Now what I mean is that as long as the

inheritor (heir) is a child and under age, he does not differ from a slave, although he is the master of all the estate; 2 But he is under guardians and administrators or trustees until the date fixed by his father.

Why is it so important to deal with ?

Page 50: Preparation of our Mind

God is a God of intentionally. Everything He does with intentionalityGod said…”let there be light & there was…”

Romans 8:29(AMP) For those whom He foreknew [of whom He

was aware and [loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren.

Revelation of the Father’s Heart

Page 51: Preparation of our Mind

James 1:17(AMP)Every good gift and every perfect (free, large,

full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].

1 John 3:1(AMP)See what [an incredible] quality of love the

Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him.

The Ceremony of AdoptionAs A Child, At age 13 He was placed under

tutorship of His Father Luke 2:40(AMP)… And the Child grew and

became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace (favor and spiritual blessing) of God was upon Him.

Luke 2:52(AMP)…And Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man.

At age 30, He was placed in adoption and received His father’s blessing

We Must Follow Jesus’ Example

Page 53: Preparation of our Mind

Matthew 3:13-17 (AMP) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John to

be baptized by him.14 But John protested strenuously, having in mind to prevent Him, saying, It is I who have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?15 But Jesus replied to him, Permit it just now; for this is the fitting way for [both of] us to fulfill all righteousness [that is, to perform completely whatever is right]. Then he permitted Him.16 And when Jesus was baptized, He went up at once out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he [John] saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him.17 And behold, a voice from heaven said, This is My Son, My Beloved, in Whom I delight!

Jesus Received the Spirit of Adoption

Page 54: Preparation of our Mind

Luke 4:1-2a (NASB) Then Jesus, full of and controlled by the Holy

Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led in [by] the [Holy] Spirit. 2  For (during) forty days in the wilderness (desert), where He was tempted (tried, tested exceedingly) by the devil.

Philippians 3:10,11 (NASB) that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and

the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; 11 in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

(AMP)10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him

[that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]

Jesus an Example of Suffering

Page 56: Preparation of our Mind

Romans 8:17-18 (AMP) 17 And if we are [His] children, then we are [His]

heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.

18 [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and [g]for us and [h]conferred on us!

(NASB)18 For I consider that the sufferings of this

present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Luke 4:14-16 (NASB)Then Jesus went back full of and under the

power of the [Holy] Spirit into Galilee, and the fame of Him spread through the whole region round about.

15 And He Himself conducted [a course of] teaching in their synagogues, being recognized and honored and praised by all.

16 So He came to Nazareth, [that Nazareth] where He had been brought up, and He entered the synagogue, as was His custom on the Sabbath day. And He stood up to read.

Luke 4:20-21 (AMP)Then He rolled up the book and gave it back to

the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing [attentively] at Him.

21 And He began to speak to them: Today this Scripture has been fulfilled while you are present and hearing.

John 3:13 (NKJV)No one has ascended to heaven but He who came

down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.

Jesus Lived in 2 places at Once

Philippians 2:5(AMP)Let this same attitude and purpose and

[humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]

“Satan fears virtue. He is terrified of humility; He hates. He sees a humble person and it sends chills down his back. His hair stands up when Christians kneel down, for humility is surrender of the soul to God. The devil trembles before the meek, because in the very areas where he once had access, there stands the Lord, and Satan is terrified of Jesus Christ…” Francis Frangipane.

Romans 8:15(AMP)For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is]

not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!

Romans 8:23 (AMP)And not only the creation, but we ourselves too,

who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God’s sons).

We have received the Spirit of Adoption

Page 62: Preparation of our Mind

I admit that I am powerless in myself to shake off the orphan/fatherless/slavery identity I inherited from Adam through the fall.

I believe that it is only by the power of the Father’s love and through Hid ongoing work of the cross and His shed blood that my experiential identity of a son will come into place in me.

I decide to commit my identity and sense of well-being totally into His loving arms.

I have made a searching inventory of myself and my hopelessness as an orphan and slave.

Orphans & Slave to Son’s

Page 63: Preparation of our Mind

I admit to God, myself and trusted friends, the specifics of my hopeless, orphan and slavery tendencies.

I’m entirely ready for God to intervene in my life to change the way I see myself and the ways I react.

I humbly ask Him to transform me and make me more and more like His Son, Jesus.

I make a list of the people I have harmed and mistreated in my orphaness and slavery and am willing to ask them for forgiveness.

I will confess my sin towards them, asking for forgiveness when possible.

Page 64: Preparation of our Mind

I realize that my orphan and slave tendencies will continue to cook to the surface as I live my daily life relating to people.

I will be sensitive to the effect that these things have on relationships and ask quickly for forgivenenss of God and those that I hurt.

I will live continually with an understanding that I am going to become a son, I must become one through the continuous filling of the Holy Spirit and total dependence upon the Father with every day trials.

I have the continual goal of having the mind of Christ, thinking as He thought, walking in sweet, thankful identity as a son, always getting my true identity in the Father.

Page 65: Preparation of our Mind

I am aiming to have an ongoing, spiritual transforming walk as a son, helping others in any way possible to enter into sonship also.

AMEN!!!

Eastern culture still maintains the tradition of having the father’s blessing…

Hebrews 11:21(AMP)[Prompted] by faith Jacob, when he was

dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and bowed in prayer over the top of his staff.

Proverbs 18:21(AMP)Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Proverbs 10:11(AMP)The mouth of the [uncompromisingly]

righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

Bless words are like cool refreshing water. If your mouth doesn't speak it you will never see it.

Proverbs 23:16(AMP)Yes, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak

right things.Meaning, inside I'm happy when positive words are

spoken to me.

I call you spirit to attention in the name of Jesus of Nazareth. Listen with your spirit to God’s Word for you. (Ps 139:13-16)(NCV)

You made my whole being; You formed me in my mother’s body. I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well. You saw my bones being formed as I took shape in my mother’s body. When I was put together there, you saw my body as it was formed. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old.
