PETER BROOK

Peter Brook (Londres, 1925) se graduó en Arte en

Oxford y realizó sus primeros montajes teatrales

con apenas 20 años. Dirigió la Royal Opera House

de Covent Garden y el Royal Shakespeare Theatre

en Stratford. Fundó y dirige en París el Centro

Internacional de Creaciones Teatrales. También

dirigió Les Bouffes du Nord. Considerado el mejor

director teatral del siglo XX y un renovador del teatro

contemporáneo, ha trabajado en escenarios de todo

el mundo. De sus obras, que abarcan casi todos los

estilos teatrales, destacan títulos como La tempestad

(1955), El rey Lear (1962) o Marat-Sade (1964). En

1985 presentó Mahabharata, un montaje teatral de

seis horas de duración que supuso su consagración

definitiva. Entre sus últimos trabajos se encuentran

Battlefield (2015), The Prisoner (2018) y Why? (2019).

Es, además, autor de varios libros de crítica teatral, el

más afamado, The Empty Space (1968). Ha publicado

también sus memorias (Threads of Time) y dirigido

varias películas. Comandante de la Legión de

Honor de Francia y Comandante de la Orden del

Imperio Británico, es doctor honoris causa por varias

universidades y miembro honorario de la Academia

Americana de Artes y Ciencias, entre otras. Además

de los numerosos reconocimientos a sus obras

—premios Tony, Emmy, Molière, Laurence Olivier,

etc.—, ha recibido galardones como el Premio Europa

de Teatro (1989), el Praemium Imperiale (Japón,

1997) y el Molière de Honor (Francia, 2011).

Peter Brook (London, 1925) graduated in Art from

Oxford. He directed his first productions when barely

twenty. He has directed both the Royal Opera House

Covent Garden (London) and the Royal Shakespeare

Theatre (Stratford). He founded the International

Centre for Theatre Creation and also directed

the Bouffes du Nord theatre. Considered the best

theatrical director of the 20th century and one of

the great renovators of contemporary theatre, Peter

Brook has worked on stages throughout the world.

Embracing almost all theatrical styles, his works

include titles such as The Tempest (1955), King Lear

(1962) and Marat-Sade (1964). In 1985 he presented

Mahabharata, a six-hour theatrical production that

marked his definitive consecration. His latest works

include Battlefield (2015), The Prisoner (2018) and Why?

(2019). Brook is also the author of several theatre

criticism books including The Empty Space (1968). He

has published his memoirs, entitled Threads of Time,

and has also directed several films. Commander of

the French Legion of Honour and Commander of the

Order of the British Empire, Peter Brook is an honorary

member of the American Academy of Arts and

Sciences, among other such institutions. In addition

to the numerous recognitions of his works —Tony,

Emmy, Molière, Laurence Olivier Awards, to name a

few—, he has received distinctions such as the Europe

Theatre Prize (1989), the Praemium Imperiale (Japan,

1997) and the Honorary Molière Award (France, 2011).

MUSEO NACIONAL DEL PRADOTHE PRADO MUSEUM

El Museo Nacional del Prado se inauguró en

Madrid el 19 de noviembre de 1819. Integrado

por 311 pinturas, el Museo servía de depósito

para otras 1510 procedentes de los Reales Sitios.

Ocupó el Gabinete de Ciencias Naturales en el

conocido como Prado de los Jerónimos, por lo que

popularmente se llamó Museo del Prado, antes

de recibir esta denominación oficial a principios

del siglo XX. Hoy sigue cumpliendo la misión de

conservar, exponer y enriquecer el conjunto de las

colecciones y obras de arte que constituyen una

de las más elevadas manifestaciones de expresión

artística. Convertido en la institución cultural más

importante de España y en una de las pinacotecas

más destacadas del mundo, tiene una colección de

cerca de 8000 pinturas, de las que más de 3200 se

distribuyen entre 255 instituciones culturales de

toda España. Desde su fundación ha ingresado por

donación más de 2300 pinturas y gran cantidad de

esculturas, estampas, dibujos y otras piezas. Tiene los

mayores colecciones de El Bosco, Tiziano, El Greco,

Rubens, Velázquez o Goya y es visitado anualmente

por casi tres millones de personas, más de la mitad

extranjeras. El Museo actual está formado por varios

inmuebles que superan los 45 000 metros cuadrados

de superficie útil. Está regido por un patronato

presidido por el ministro de Cultura correspondiente

y sus presidentes de honor son SS. MM. los Reyes de

España.

The Prado Museum was inaugurated in Madrid on

19th November 1819. It had an initial collection

of 311 paintings and also served as a depository for

1510 other works from the so-called Royal Sites.

It was housed in the Cabinet of Natural Sciences,

in what was known as the Prado de los Jerónimos.

Nowadays, the Prado Museum continues to fulfil the

mission of preserving, exhibiting and enriching all

the collections and works of art that constitute one

of the highest manifestations of artistic expression.

Having become the most important cultural

institution in Spain and one of the most outstanding

art galleries worldwide, the Prado Museum possesses

a collection of around 8000 paintings, of which

more than 3200 are distributed among 255 cultural

institutions throughout Spain. Since its foundation,

the Prado has acquired more than 2300 paintings, as

well as a large number of sculptures, prints, drawings

and other pieces. It has the largest collections of

Bosch, Titian, El Greco, Rubens, Velázquez and Goya

and each year boasts almost three million visitors,

more than half of whom are foreigners. The current

museum is made up of several buildings, which

es licenciado en Matemáticas, Ingeniería y Ciencias

Informáticas por el Massachusetts Institute of

Technology y máster en Dirección de Empresas en

Harvard, tras el que trabajó como analista financiero.

En 2004 se ofreció para ayudar a su prima con las

matemáticas a través del teléfono, con el apoyo

de la informática, y después empezó a supervisar

a distancia los avances de varios familiares. En

2006 publicó en YouTube vídeos explicativos de

sus lecciones y en 2008 creó la Khan Academy,

organización sin ánimo de lucro a la que se ha

dedicado plenamente desde 2009, cuando presentó

su renuncia en el fondo de inversión para el que

trabajaba. Aunque el contenido estuvo inicialmente

dirigido a los estudiantes, poco a poco se ha

convertido en una herramienta de gran utilidad para

profesores que buscan complementar sus lecciones

en el aula con material adicional. Su lema es: “Solo

tienes que saber una cosa: puedes aprender cualquier

cosa”. Presente en más de 190 países, con cerca de

sesenta millones de usuarios registrados, cuenta con

unos 20 000 vídeos disponibles, visualizados más

de 1400 millones de veces. La plataforma web está

disponible en cinco idiomas y se traduce a

36 idiomas. Fomenta el concepto de “clase invertida”

(flipped classroom), para darle la vuelta al método

tradicional, animando a los estudiantes a preparar la

teoría en sus casas.

Salman Amin Khan (New Orleans, USA, 1976)

graduated in Mathematics, Engineering and

Computer Science from MIT and obtained a Master’s

degree in Business Administration from Harvard

University, after which he began working as a

financial analyst. In 2004, he offered to help his

cousin with her Maths schoolwork by telephone

with the support of some basic computer tools and,

within a short time, Khan was remotely monitoring

the progress of several relatives with similar problems

at school. In 2006, he began publishing videos on the

YouTube platform explaining his lessons and in 2008

created the Khan Academy, a non-profit organization

to which he has devoted himself full time since 2009.

Although the content was initially aimed at students,

it has gradually become a very useful tool for teachers

who wish to complement their classroom lessons

with additional material. His motto is: “You only

have to know one thing: you can learn anything.”

The Khan Academy is currently found in more than

190 countries, with nearly sixty million registered

users. It also has around 20 000 videos available that

have been viewed more than 1400 million times. The

Academy’s web platform is available in six languages

and its videos have been translated into 36 languages.

The Academy likewise promotes the concept of

the ‘flipped classroom’, which seeks to ‘flip’ the

traditional teaching method, encouraging students to

prepare theory at home.

Lindsey Vonn (Minnesota, EE. UU., 1984) consiguió

en 2001 su primera victoria en una competición

oficial de la Federación Internacional. En 2004 ganó

seis pruebas de la Copa del Mundo y en 2009 se

proclamó doble campeona del mundo en descenso y

supergigante y revalidó el de campeona en la general

de la Copa del Mundo. En 2016, con su triunfo 63,

superó el récord de Annemarie Moser-Pröll.

Medallista olímpica en tres ocasiones y campeona

de la clasificación general de la Copa de Mundo en

cuatro, superó los récords de Renate Götschl, de

18 victorias en supergigante, y mujer con más

victorias en la Copa del Mundo y batió el de puntos

obtenidos en una temporada. Tras dos campañas

irregulares por lesiones, ganó en 2015 su 7.º Globo

de Cristal en descenso y el 5.º en supergigante y

superó, con 25 triunfos en el supergigante, el récord

de Maier. En 2016, con 38 victorias, batió el récord

femenino en descenso y con veinte Globos de Cristal

de la Copa del Mundo, superó el récord de Stenmark.

En 2016 abandonó por lesión y regresó en 2017,

logrando su 82.ª victoria. En 2019 logró la medalla

de bronce, poniendo fin a su carrera. Ha creado

una fundación en favor del empoderamiento de las

jóvenes y ha recibido, entre otros reconocimientos,

dos premios Laureus a la deportista del año (2010 y

2011) y Spirit of Sport 2019.

Lindsey Vonn (Minnesota, USA, 1984) won her first

International Ski Federation competition in 2001. In

2004, she came first in six World Cup competitions

and in 2009 became dual world champion, winning

both the downhill and super-G championships, as

well as repeating as overall World Cup champion.

With her 63rd podium in 2016, she broke the record

held by Annemarie Moser-Pröll. A three times

Olympic medal winner, she has been overall World

Cup Champion on four occasions. She beat Renate

Götschl’s record of 18 victories in super-G, becoming

the female skier with the most wins in the World Cup

and beating the record of points obtained by a skier

in a single season. Following two irregular seasons

due to injuries, she won her 7th Crystal Globe in

downhill and her 5th in super-G in the 2015 World

Cup, breaking the record held by Hermann Maier.

In 2016, she broke the women’s downhill record

with her 38th podium and broke Stenmark’s record

with her 20th World Cup Crystal Globe. In 2016,

Vonn had to stop skiing due to injury. She made

a comeback in the 2017-18 season, achieving her

82nd victory. She won a bronze medal in 2019, thus

putting the finishing touches to her career. Vonn

established a foundation in 2014 to promote the

empowerment of young women and has received

two Laureus World Sports Awards, among other

distinctions.

SIRI HUSTVEDT

Siri Hustvedt (Minnesota, EE. UU., 1955) se licenció

en Historia en el St. Olaf College, doctorándose en

1986 en Literatura Inglesa por la Universidad de

Columbia. Experta en neurociencia y psicoanálisis,

en 1982 publicó una colección de poesía, Reading

to You. Estudiosa e intelectual que se ocupa de las

cuestiones fundamentales de la ética contemporánea

y la epistemología y conocida también por su

militancia feminista, ha contribuido con su obra

al diálogo interdisciplinario entre las ciencias y

las humanidades. Su colección de conferencias y

artículos pronunciadas y publicados respectivamente

entre 2005 y 2011, Vivir, pensar, mirar (2013) es

una muestra de su profundo aprendizaje en varias

disciplinas. Traducida a más de treinta idiomas,

publicó en 1992 su primera novela, Los ojos vendados

y con su tercera obra, Todo cuanto amé (2003),

consiguió renombre internacional. En 2010 publicó

el ensayo La mujer temblorosa o la historia de mis

nervios. Otras obras suyas son El hechizo de Lily Dahl,

Elegía para un Americano, El verano sin hombres, Un

mundo deslumbrante, Leer para ti, En lontananza y

Una súplica para Eros. Su última colección de ensayos

publicada es La mujer que mira a los hombres que miran

a las mujeres (2017). Doctora honoris causa por la

Universidad Stendhal de Grenoble (2015), en 2004

recibió el Premio de los Libreros de Quebec y en 2012

Siri Hustvedt (Minnesota, USA, 1955) graduated in

History from St. Olaf College, obtaining her PhD

in English Literature from Columbia University in

she published a collection of poetry in 1982 entitled

Reading to You. A scholar and intellectual who

addresses the fundamental issues of contemporary

ethics and epistemology, as well as being known for

her feminist militancy, her work has contributed

to interdisciplinary dialogue between the sciences

and the humanities. Her collection of lectures and

articles delivered and published between 2005 and

2011, Living, Thinking, Looking (2012), is a sample

of her profound scholarship in various disciplines.

Translated into more than thirty languages, Hustvedt

published her first novel, The Blindfold, in 1992 and

achieved international renown with her third book,

What I Loved (2003). In 2009, she published the essay

The Shaking Woman or A History of My Nerves. Other

works of hers include: The Enchantment of Lily Dahl,

The Sorrows of an American, The Summer Without Men,

The Blazing World, Reading to You, Yonder and A Plea

for Eros. Her latest published collection of essays is

entitled A Woman Looking at Men Looking at Women

(2016). Holder of an honorary degree from Stendhal

University, Grenoble (2015), she received the 2004

Quebec Booksellers Award and the 2012 Gabarron

International Award for Thought and Humanities.

ALEJANDRO PORTES

Alejandro Portes (Cuba, 1944) comenzó sus estudios

en la Universidad de La Habana y se trasladó a

Buenos Aires, donde estudió Sociología. Continuó

su formación en Creighton (EE. UU.) y en 1970 se

doctoró en la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison.

Ha sido profesor de las universidades de Texas,

Duke, Johns Hopkins y Princeton, donde fue,

entre 2003 y 2014, catedrático Howard Harrison

and Gabrielle Snyder Beck del Departamento de

Sociología. También fue cofundador en 1988 del

Centro de Migraciones y Desarrollo de Princeton,

que dirigió desde 1999 a 2012. Desde 2011 es

profesor de la Universidad de Miami y desde 2014,

emérito de Princeton. Es investigador del Centro

para la Investigación y el Análisis de la Migración del

University College de Londres. Considerado uno de

los sociólogos de mayor prestigio internacional, ha

destacado por su investigación en los ámbitos de las

migraciones internacionales, la sociología económica,

el desarrollo comparativo, la urbanización de

los países en vías de desarrollo y la marginalidad

social. Miembro de la Academia Americana de las

Artes y las Ciencias y de la Academia Nacional de

Ciencias de Estados Unidos, es doctor honoris causa

por varias universidades y profesor honorífico de

las universidades de Alicante y de Nueva York Abu

Dhabi. En 2008 recibió el premio anual que concede

la Academia Americana de las Ciencias.

Alejandro Portes (Cuba, 1944) began his studies at

the University of Havana and subsequently moved

to Buenos Aires, where he enrolled in Sociology. He

continued his studies at Creighton University (USA)

and in 1970 received his PhD from the University of

Wisconsin-Madison. He subsequently taught at the

following universities: Texas, Duke, Johns Hopkins

and Princeton, where he was the Howard Harrison

and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Sociology

between 2003 and 2014. He co-founded the Center for

Migration and Development, which he headed from

1999 to 2012. He has been a professor at the University

of Miami since 2011 and an emeritus professor at

Princeton since 2014. He is a member of the Centre

for Research and Analysis of Migration, University

College London. Considered one of the most

prestigious international sociologists, he has stood out

for his research activity in the fields of international

migration, economic sociology, comparative

development, the urbanization of developing countries

and social marginality. Member of the American

Academy of Arts and Sciences and the US National

Academy of Sciences, Portes holds an honorary degree

from The New School for Social Research, New York,

and from several universities and is also an honorary

professor of the University of Alicante and New York

University-Abu Dhabi. In 2008, he received the annual

award granted by the American Academy of Sciences.

Joanne Chory (Methuen, EE. UU., 1955) se graduó

en Biología en el Oberlin College (Ohio) y se doctoró

en Microbiología en la Universidad de Illinois en

1984. Realizó estudios postdoctorales en Harvard

y en 1988 se incorporó al Instituto Salk, donde ha

sido directora de Investigaciones y del Laboratorio

de Biología Celular y Molecular de Plantas. Desde

1997 es investigadora del Howard Hughes Medical

Institute y, desde 1999, es profesora asociada de

la Universidad de California en San Diego. Su

investigación se ha centrado en el estudio de

los mecanismos que regulan el funcionamiento

de las plantas, así como las reacciones de estas a

condiciones ambientales de estrés. Ha utilizado

un organismo modelo, la Arabidopsis thaliana,

desvelando aspectos relevantes sobre los genes

implicados en funciones como la sensibilidad a la

luz, las hormonas que regulan el crecimiento de la

planta y la respuesta ante el estrés hídrico. También

estudia el desarrollo de plantas capaces de absorber

mucho más dióxido de carbono del aire que las

normales, liderando la Harnessing Plant Initiative

del Instituto Salk. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido con,

entre otros, el Premio L’Oreal-Unesco para Mujeres

en Ciencias, el Breakthrough en Ciencia de la Vida

y el Gruber Prize in Genetics. Es miembro electo de

a degree in Biology from Oberlin College (Ohio)

and obtained her PhD in Microbiology from the

University of Illinois in 1984. She was a postdoctoral

fellow at Harvard and joined the Salk Institute

in 1988, where she has been head of research

and director of the Plant Molecular and Cellular

Biology Laboratory. She has been a researcher at the

Howard Hughes Medical Institute since 1997 and

an associate professor at the University of California

San Diego since 1999. Her research has focused on

the study of regulatory mechanisms in plants, as

well as plant reactions to environmental conditions

of stress. She has used Arabidopsis thaliana as a

model organism, revealing important aspects of the

genes involved in functions such as sensitivity to

light, the hormones that regulate plant growth and

Sandra Myrna Díaz (Bell Ville, Argentina, 1961)

se graduó en Biología en 1984 en la Universidad

Nacional de Córdoba, donde se doctoró en 1989.

Entre 1985 y 1991 fue becaria en el Centro de

Ecología y Recursos Naturales Renovables de dicha

universidad y realizó una estancia posdoctoral

en la Universidad de Sheffield. En 1993 regresó

como profesora a la Universidad de Córdoba,

donde actualmente es investigadora del Instituto

Multidisciplinario de Biología Vegetal, entre otros

cargos. También ha participado en actividades e

informes del Panel Intergubernamental de Cambio

Climático y de la Convención Internacional de

Diversidad Biológica. Referencia científica en el área

de la ecología y especializada en botánica, participó

en el desarrollo de una herramienta metodológica

para cuantificar los efectos y beneficios de la

biodiversidad de las plantas y la ecología vegetal

de los ecosistemas y su aprovechamiento humano

en forma de combustible, materiales, medicinas,

tintes, alimentación, protección hídrica y otras

aportaciones, así como el papel de la biodiversidad

para contrarrestar el cambio global, por ejemplo,

mediante el secuestro de carbono atmosférico.

Es miembro electo, entre otras, de la Academia

Nacional de Ciencias de Estados Unidos, la Academia

de Ciencias de Francia y de the Royal Society. Entre

sus numerosos galardones destacan los premios

Konex de Platino en Biología y Ecología, el Zayed al

Sandra Myrna Díaz (Bell Ville, Argentina, 1961)

graduated with a degree in Biology from the National

University of Córdoba in 1984, obtaining her PhD

in 1989. Between 1985 and 1991, she was a research

fellow at the Centre for Ecology and Renewable

Natural Resources at the aforementioned university

and subsequently joined the University of Sheffield.

She returned to the University of Córdoba in 1993,

where, among other posts, she is Professor of

Community and Ecosystem Ecology and a senior

researcher at the Multidisciplinary Institute of Plant

Biology. She has also participated in reports and

activities carried out by both the Intergovernmental

Panel on Climate Change and the International

Convention on Biological Diversity. Specializing

in botany and considered a reference figure in

the field of ecology, she has participated in the

development of a methodological tool to quantify

the effects and benefits of plant biodiversity and the

plant ecology of ecosystems and their exploitation

for fuel, materials, medicines, dyes, food, water

protection and other contributions, as well as the

role of biodiversity in counteracting global change,

e.g., through atmospheric carbon sequestration. She

is an elected member of the United States National

Academy of Sciences and the French Academy of

Sciences, as well as an elected Foreign Member of the

Royal Society. She has received numerous awards,

most notably the Platinum Konex Prize in Biology

and Ecology, the Zayed Prize for the Environment,

the Bernardo Houssay Award and the Ramon

Margalef Prize in Ecology.

Background

“La historia y el presente de la ciudad de Gdansk son un

ejemplo de sensibilidad ante el sufrimiento, de solidaridad,

de defensa de las libertades y los derechos humanos y de

extraordinaria generosidad”.

“The past and the present of the city of Gdaˮsk are an

example of sensitivity towards suffering, solidarity, the

defence of freedom and human rights and extraordinary

generosity.”

The city of Gda!sk (Poland) is currently the lead

city of a metropolitan area, together with the towns

of Gdynia and Sopot, that exceeds one million

inhabitants. With a history marked by its strategic

location on the Baltic coast and having belonged to

different entities and states, Gda!sk became a Free City

as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, which brought

World War I to an end. It was the scene of the first

battle of World War II, when the Nazi army invaded

Poland via the Westerplatte Peninsula. Following the

Allied victory, Gda!sk was annexed by Poland. Decades

later, the first pockets of opposition to the communist

regime arose in the city, its shipyards giving rise to

the Solidarity trade-union movement, which was to

become a leading force in the 1989 overthrow of the

regime. In 1990, the leader of Solidarity, Lech Wa!"sa,

became the country’s first democratically elected

president since 1939. A symbol of resistance against

Nazism and the fight for the recovery of freedom

in Europe, in September 2019 the city of Gda!sk

commemorated the 80th anniversary of the start of

World War II. Since the restoration of democracy

in Poland, Gda!sk has stood out for its dynamic

economy, openness, civic cohesion and tolerant

nature, especially through programmes aimed at the

integration of immigrants and defence of the LGBT

community. The momentum behind the social policies

developed by Gda!sk is attributed to former mayor

Pawe! Adamowicz, murdered during a public event.

La ciudad de Gdansk (Polonia) es actualmente

la cabecera de un área metropolitana que con las

localidades de Gdynia y Sopot supera el millón de

habitantes. Marcada por su ubicación estratégica en

la costa báltica y su pertenencia a distintas entidades

y estados, se convirtió en una Ciudad Libre por el

Tratado de Versalles que siguió a la Primera Guerra

Mundial. En ella se desarrolló la primera batalla de la

Segunda Guerra Mundial, tras invadir los nazis Polonia

en 1939 a través de la península de Westerplatte.

Integrada en Polonia tras la victoria aliada, décadas

más tarde surgieron los primeros focos de oposición al

régimen comunista y en sus astilleros está el origen del

sindicato Solidaridad, protagonista del derrocamiento

del régimen en 1989. Su líder, Lech Wa!"sa, fue en 1990

el primer presidente elegido democráticamente desde

1939. Símbolo de la resistencia contra el nazismo y de

la lucha por la recuperación de las libertades en Europa,

en septiembre de 2019 conmemoró el 80.º aniversario

del inicio de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Ha destacado,

desde el restablecimiento de la democracia, por su

dinamismo económico, apertura, cohesión ciudadana y

carácter tolerante, especialmente a través de programas

dedicados a la integración de la inmigración y la

defensa del colectivo LGTB. El impulso de las políticas

sociales desarrolladas por Gdansk se atribuye al que

fuera su alcalde, Pawe! Adamowicz, asesinado durante

un acto público.

Starting in 1996, the Foundation has programmed

different activities at various locations in Asturias on

the occasion of the Awards Ceremony. The aim of these

activities is to make the Laureates and their work better

known to society at large. In 2019, more than 26 000

people participated in the 56 activities scheduled over a

period of 8 days. These included audiovisual screenings,

exhibitions, art installations, talks, concerts and debates,

as well as the fifth edition of the “Taking the Floor”

cultural programme for schools in the Principality of

Asturias. The events commenced on 10th October with

the opening of several installations in the facilities of

La Vega Former Arms Factory in Oviedo. Furthermore,

18 201 people visited the Fine Arts Museum of

Asturias during the “Habsburgs and Bourbons: Princes

and Princesses of Asturias and Monarchs of Spain”

exhibition, jointly organized together with the

aforementioned museum and the Prado Museum.

La Fundación programa desde 1996, con motivo del

acto de entrega de los galardones, diferentes actividades

en diversas localidades asturianas con el objetivo de

acercar a la sociedad la figura y obra de los premiados.

En 2019, más de 26 000 personas participaron en las

56 actividades programadas a lo largo de 8 días. Hubo

proyecciones audiovisuales, exposiciones, instalaciones

artísticas, conferencias, conciertos y debates y se

celebró la quinta edición del programa cultural “Toma

la Palabra” para centros educativos del Principado de

Asturias. Los actos comenzaron el 10 de octubre con

la inauguración de varias instalaciones en el recinto

de la antigua Fábrica de Armas de La Vega, en Oviedo.

Además, 18 201 personas visitaron el Museo de Bellas

Artes durante la exposición “Austrias y Borbones:

Príncipes y Princesas de Asturias, y Reyes de España”,

que se organizó conjuntamente con el Museo de Bellas

Artes de Asturias y el Museo Nacional del Prado.

Actividades para todos los públicosEl programa de actos culturales organizado buscaba,

una vez más, hacer llegar la obra de los galardonados

a todos los públicos. Para ello, además del programa

“Toma la Palabra”, que aparece desarrollado más

adelante, se incluyeron en la programación talleres

de pintura infantiles y pruebas tipo yincana que

permitieron disfrutar en familia de esta cita cultural.

Avilés, Gijón y Oviedo acogieron en esta ocasión

las distintas actividades, entre las que destacan el

encuentro que mantuvo Siri Hustvedt con más de

1500 miembros de clubes de lectura de distintas

partes de España o el estreno en España de la obra

teatral más reciente de Peter Brook, Why? En las

páginas siguientes se recoge de forma gráfica un

resumen del programa con los datos de participación.

Este ciclo de actos contó con la colaboración

institucional del Ministerio de Defensa, la Consejería

de Cultura, Política Llingüística y Turismo del

Principado de Asturias, la Junta General del

Principado de Asturias, los ayuntamientos de Oviedo,

Gijón y Avilés y la Universidad de Oviedo.

Activities for the public at largeThe programme of cultural events once again sought

to make the work of the Laureates better known to

the public at large. To this end, in addition to the

“Taking the Floor” programme, described later in

this report, activities were organized that enabled

this cultural offering to be enjoyed as a family via

painting workshops and treasure hunts.

On this occasion, Avilés, Gijón and Oviedo

hosted the different activities, noteworthy among

which were the meeting that Siri Hustvedt held

with over 1500 members of book clubs from

different parts of Spain and the premiere in Spain

of Peter Brook’s latest play, Why? A summary of the

programme, including the number of participants, is

given in graphical form on the following pages.

This series of events counted on the institutional

support of the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the

Regional Ministry of Culture, Language Policy

and Tourism of the Principality of Asturias, the

Principality of Asturias Regional Parliament, Oviedo,

Gijón and Avilés Municipal Councils and the

University of Oviedo.

El programa cultural para centros educativos del

Principado de Asturias “Toma la Palabra” cumplió este

año su quinta edición, en la que se marcó un récord

de participaciones del alumnado. Además, en 2019,

casi se triplicó el número de propuestas trasladadas al

sistema educativo, con ocho actividades, cinco más

que en la edición del año anterior.

A través de este proyecto la Fundación invitó

a principios del mes de septiembre a los centros

educativos de todo el Principado de Asturias

(excluyendo a los centros exclusivos de Infantil) a

involucrarse y trabajar en actividades ideadas en

torno a la figura de los galardonados con los Premios

de esa edición. Por primera vez, se hizo extensiva

esta convocatoria al alumnado y profesorado de

Formación Profesional.

A esta convocatoria de 2019 concurrieron un

total de 114 centros educativos, lo que supuso un

incremento del 22.6 % respecto a la participación de

2018 (93 centros). Esta edición sumó un total de

6948 participaciones de alumnos (puede suceder que

varios alumnos de un centro hayan participado en

más de una actividad) con un total de 3832 trabajos

recibidos.

This year saw the fifth edition of the “Taking

the Floor” cultural programme for schools in the

Principality of Asturias, which marked a record in

terms of student participation. Moreover, the number

of proposals made to the educational system almost

tripled in 2019, comprising eight activities, i.e. five

more than in the previous year. At the beginning

of September, the Foundation invited schools

throughout the Principality of Asturias —except for

exclusively infant schools— to join in and work on

activities focused on the 2019 Laureates. This call

was extended for the first time to include vocational

training students and teachers.

A total of 114 schools took part in these activities,

Esta actividad estaba diseñada como una guía para la

primera aproximación a la pintura de los alumnos de

Primaria. A través de un recorrido por algunas de las

obras más emblemáticas de la pinacoteca —cuadros

de El Greco, Fra Angélico, Sofonisba Anguissola o

Sorolla— y los ejercicios propuestos sobre ellos, los

alumnos descubrieron aspectos como la perspectiva,

el tratamiento del color, las temáticas y el papel de

la mujer en el arte, entre otros. Los alumnos del

Aula Hospitalaria del Hospital Universitario Central

de Asturias pudieron mostrar sus trabajos a una

representante del Museo y una selección de todos

los dibujos recibidos fue expuesta en el recinto de la

Fábrica de Armas de La Vega.

This activity was designed as a guide for a first

approach to painting on the part of primary

schoolchildren. Via a tour of some of the art

museum’s most emblematic works —paintings by

El Greco, Fra Angelico, Sofonisba Anguissola and

Sorolla— and the suggested exercises on these artists,

pupils discovered aspects such as perspective, the

use of colour, themes and the role of women in art,

among others. Pupils in the hospital classroom at the

Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) were

able to show their work to a representative from the

Museum, while a selection of all the drawings that

were received was put on show in the facilities of

La Vega Arms Factory.

The goal of this activity for primary schoolchildren

was for them to get to know the work of Sandra

tuvieron que poner en común en clase las potenciales

acciones del grupo receptor que consideraban más

pronunciada por Alejandro Portes en la Junta General

del Principado de Asturias.

In this activity inspired by the work of Alejandro

Portes, secondary school students were invited to

reflect on the situation of having to live and study

for a long time in another country of whose culture

and/or language they have no knowledge. The

students had to share in class the potential actions of

the host group which they considered would be the

most beneficial for newcomers to feel integrated, as

well as those that these newcomers could carry out

individually. Students participating in this activity

were able to attend the talk Alejandro Portes gave at

the Principality of Asturias Regional Parliament.

a los alumnos de Primaria y de 1.º y 2.º de ESO que

la práctica deportiva. La galardonada participó en

un acto celebrado en el Complejo Deportivo Avilés,

siendo el C. P. Marcelo Gago el centro anfitrión,

con estudiantes y jóvenes de clubes de esquí del

Principado de Asturias.

Based on the analysis of the career of American

skier Lindsey Vonn, primary and 1st- and 2nd-year

The proposal was for 5th- and 6th-year primary and

1st- and 2nd-year secondary school pupils to get to

know the city of Gda!sk through its most illustrious

citizens. Furthermore, in addition to their biographies

and contributions to society, the pupils had to seek

out their counterparts in the same fields of work and

knowledge in their own locality or region with the

aim of presenting them to an imaginary delegation

from the Polish city. The Mayor of the City of Gda!sk

met with some of the participants at the Miguel de

Cervantes state junior school in Gijón.

Los alumnos de ESO, Bachillerato y Formación

Profesional, guiados por sus profesores, aceptaron

el reto que Salman Khan les lanzó en esta actividad

de “Toma la Palabra” para poner a prueba sus

capacidades deductivas y talento a través de la

resolución de tres enigmas. También se organizó

una formación sobre la plataforma digital de la

Khan Academy, en la que participaron 68 docentes

de 36 centros educativos. El propio Khan asistió a

un encuentro con estudiantes que tuvo lugar en el

Colegio de la Inmaculada, en Gijón.

Secondary school, pre-university and vocational

training students, with the guidance of their

teachers, accepted the challenge that Salman Khan

launched in this “Taking the Floor” activity to test

their deductive skills and talent through the solving

of three puzzles. Training was also organized on the

use of the Khan Academy digital platform, in which

68 teachers from 36 schools took part. Khan himself

attended a meeting with schoolchildren held at the

Immaculada school in Gijón.

y escribir. La escritora se reunió con algunos de los

The 3rd- and 4th-year secondary school and pre-

university students who participated in this activity

approached the work of Siri Hustvedt through her

account of how she discovered her vocation as a

writer thanks to reading. In this activity, the students

shared the books and authors that awakened her love

of reading and writing. The writer met with some

of the students at the IES Alfonso II state secondary

school in Oviedo.
