Dear colleagues and friends,
The European Respiratory Care Association (ERCA), in collaboration with Associazione Riabilitatori dell’Insufficienza Respiratoria (ARIR), is organising its third ERCA congress on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Stresa, Italy, from the 2nd to the 4th April 2009.
The Stresa congress is an opportunity to meet colleagues from Europe and the world interested in enhancing their knowledge and sharing experiences in the interest of improving respiratory care and further promoting the development of applied technology. Professionals will be sharing their clinical and practical experience in the form of workshops, practical symposia and roundtable discussions. Creative and innovative issues in Respiratory Care will be presented in the plenary sessions while the exhibition hall will expose you to the latest in respiratory care technologies and related therapies.
In addition to the scientific program, many off-site activities will be planned to make your visit to Stresa an educational and fun experience.
Stresa, one of the most picturesque towns on the shores of Lake Maggiore, gives the most panoramic view over the lake and it is an ideal starting off point for sightseeing around the area. Stresa, with its wide avenue of trees and flowerbeds and its elegant lakefront lined with prestigious Art Nouveau hotels, welcomes you all and invites you to take advantage of its many varied excursions.
We look forward to meeting you in Stresa.
Philippe JOUD ERCA President

ERCA’S PROFILEQuality patient care is essential. In the changing health care delivery system the European Care Association (ERCA) members, a multidisciplinary team consisting of Physicians, Physioterapists, Nurses, Biomedical Engineers and Respiratory Therapists, are dedicated to providing clinical assistance and support to Pneumonologists and other physicians in the management of the pulmonary patient. Areas of discipline include:
ERCA members are active in wellness promotion and the diagnosis, treatment, education and rehabilitation of people with respiratory disorders. The European Respiratory Care Association is a professional association with a mission to:
respiratory therapy standards
ERCA supports respiratory patient care performed in a multidisciplinary team environment. By utilizing each member’s scope of practice we better plan appropriate interventions, and evaluation of care plans. Respiratory Therapist offer a balance between the demands of a higly technological environment and satisfying individual patient needs consistent with individual patient rights comfort and privacy.
ARIR was created in 1989 by a group of Physiotherapists who wanted to give a voice and contribute to the development of this profession by means of continuing education and discussion between those working in Physiotherapy and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The multidisciplinary and Evidence-Based-Medicine approach are the preferred paradigms for pursuing the above objectives. In the last 15 years, ARIR has created links of significant interaction and collaboration with associations relating to and part of the field of Physiotherapy and Pulmonary rehabilitation.Arir has organized continuing education opportunities with the Italian Group of Cystic Fibrosis Physiotherapist (GIFT/FC) and with the Italia Physiotherapists Association (AIFI).ARIR has been a collaborator in the founding of the European Respiratory Care Association (ERCA) and since 2002 has been affiliated with the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and with the Italian Hospital Pneumonologists Association (AIPO).Recently, ARIR has concluded a census of respiratory therapist working in Italian Hospitals, by which it intends to design, with help of other collaborating organizations, answers to specific needs which came forth.
