seek solution in how to enhance skills necessary to provide nursingcare to mother and child.

Specifically, it intends to answer the following questions:

    1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:1.1 age,1.2 gender,1.3 monthly income,1.4 cultural minority group, and1.5 academic standing?

    2. What is the proficiency level on post partum care of thestudent nurses at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao in relation to:

2.1 Health Teachings,2.2 Nursing Assessment,2.3 Care planning,2.4 Nursing Interventions and2.5 Nurse Patient Interaction?

    3. Is there any relationship between profile of the respondentsand their proficiency on Nursing Care on post partum patients?

    4. Is there any difference in the proficiency level of caring of postpartum patients in the three groups of respondents classified

    as:4.1 Sophomore,4.2 Juniors, and4.3 Senior student nurses?

    HYPOTHESIS

The following null hypotheses are intended to test in this study.1. There is no relationship that exist between the profile of the

respondents and their proficiency on Post Partum Patient Care.2. There is no significant difference on the proficiency of the three

groups of respondents on Post Partum Care.

    PROFILE OF THE RESPODENTS

The age group of the respondents belong to 18-19 dominates over othergroup which comprises 54% of the population. The least is 22 and

    College of Nursing

above which has only 7 or 5% of the group. This means that therespondents are in the late 20s where some of the sophomore

students are older or there are some senior students who are alsobeyond the school age. The junior students age group dominates, since they are the biggest among the selected population andtriggered also by the differences in the age group of other groups ofrespondents.

Female respondents dominate over male with a number of 112 or 77.3%of the sample while male has only 33 or 22.7% of the population. Thisis still that the nursing profession is mostly at the interest of femalethan male who enrolled in the college of nursing.

The income level, most are having family earnings in between 10,001-20,000 with the total number of 80 or 55% of the population which is

beyond the number of total respondents. The least is 50,0001 abovewith only 4 or 2.7%.

In cultural group, unknown or unclassified place of origin dominated overthe others which have a number of 70 or 48.3% beyond the half ofthe total population. While classified respondents are Tagalog with 52or 39.3% and Visayan with 18 or 12.4% which is the least among thegroup. The reason why unknown dominates over the other it isbecause the NCR and Southern Tagalog Areas became melting potwhere other cultural minority group migrates in the province andcities that cause mixed of native origin of all people.

In terms of academic standing, 1.75 is the most among the grade of the

respondents in NCM 101 lecture and RLE with an average number of52 or 36% while the lowest is 2.75 with only 5 or 3.4% of the totalpopulation. This means that respondents are belong to the aboveaverage in terms of actual academic standing in their lectures andclinical experiences as assessed by their clinical instructor.Meanwhile, this study will find out if this is correlated with the presentproficiency level of the students in this study.

PROFICIENCY OF THE STUDENTS IN CARING FOR POST-PARTUM PATIENTS

The respondents are satisfactory in their performance of nursing care inrelation to health teaching with 3.42, 3.81 and 3.78 computed WMand combined value of 3.67 rated as satisfactory, in nurse patientinteraction the respondents rating is 3.58, 3.25 and 3.75 withcomputed combined weighted mean of 3.52 interpreted assatisfactory. While nursing assessment, nursing intervention and careplanning are rated fair based on the combined weighted mean of

3.03, 2.70 and 3.05 respectively. This means that the proficiencylevels of the respondents are at most in terms of provision of health

teaching and communication with the patients. The rests of theproficiency parameters are in the average level and fair asinterpreted. It is because the curricula of nursing focus primarily inthe health education and nurse-patient interaction in the level 2 and 3while leadership in level 4, thats why dominancy of the proficiencysubsumed in the acquisition of mastery in communication andteaching.

RELATIONSHIP OF PROFILE VARIEABLES AND PROFICIENCY OF STUDENTNURSES

The results of the study shows that the age is insignificant in the provisionof health teaching justifies by the computed value of chi-square18.566 at df 12 which lower to the tabulated value at 0.5 level ofsignificance conclude to the decision that the Ho is to be accepted. This is mostly the same with gender having 8.942 lesser than thetabulated value of 9.488 at df 4 come up with the decision to acceptthe Ho at 0.5 level of significance. This means that age and gendermay not affect in the delivery of health teaching. Age group of variouslevels in college of the 3 groups has no capacity to affect the methodsof delivery including the gender either male or female. Both arehaving equal chance to provide appropriate health teachings to the

post-partum patient. Meanwhile, the monthly income, cultural groupand academic standing are significant to the health teaching with acomputed value of chi-square higher than the tabulated value at theirassigned degree of freedom such as 36.477, 32.211 and 27.222respectively came with the decision to reject the Ho. This means thatmonthly income might affect the delivery of health teaching includingthe cultural group and academic standing.

Based on the findings of the study, age, gender and monthly income arenot significant with capacity of the respondents to make a nursingassessment with their patients. This is justified by the computedvalue of chi-square lower than the tabulated value resulting to therejection of Ho. Meanwhile, the cultural group and academic standingare significant with the nursing assessment with a higher computedvalue of chi-square than tabulated value resulting to the rejection ofHo. This means that age, gender and monthly income may not affectthe formulation of nursing assessment but cultural group andacademic standing may do.

All of the profile variables are found to be significant with the provision ofnursing intervention with the patient in relation to post-partum care

resulting to the rejection of Ho. The computed value of chi-square inthe five parameters of profile variables are higher than the tabulatedvalue at their respective degrees of freedom causing the Ho to berejected at 0.5 level of significance.

Based from the findings of the study, age, monthly income, cultural groupand academic standing are all significant to the care planning justifiedby the higher computed value of chi-square than the tabulated valueresulted to the rejection of Ho. Meanwhile, the gender is insignificantamong other profile variables since the computed value is lower thanthe tabulated value resulting to the acceptance of the Ho.

All of the profile variables are found to be significant with the provision of

nurse-patient interaction in relation to post-partum care resulting tothe rejection of Ho. The computed value of chi-square in the fiveparameters of profile variables are higher than the tabulated value attheir respective degrees of freedom causing the Ho to be rejected at0.5 level of significance.

Based from the computed Man Whitney U Test, the results revealed 125.00, 125.00,75.00, 25.00 and 60.00 for health teaching, nursing assessment, nursingintervention, care planning and nurse-patient interaction with a probability of0.024, 0.024, 0.001, 0.000 and 0.00 respectively at the same sequence. Theresults are all significant to each other resulting to the rejection of Ho. It meansfurther that the proficiency of the three groups of respondents in post-partum

care are mostly relevant to each other.

CONCLUSIONBased from the findings of the study, the researchers conclude

that:Most of the respondents are belong to the age group of 18-19, dominants

are female, with a family income sufficient to the family basic needs, belong to the unknown nativity and above average in the academicstanding in NCM 101 and RLE.

The proficiency based on the results of the study has health results whererespondents are satisfactory in their performance of nursing care in

relation to health teaching, in nurse patient interaction the aresatisfactory. While nursing assessment, nursing intervention and careplanning are rated fair based on the computed results.

Degree of relationship between profile variables and proficiencyparameters are varies from each other. Age is not mostly related

together with gender, while at most income, cultural nativity andacademic standing are found to be significant to each other.

The extent of difference on the mean perception of the three groups ofrespondents is significant. It means that their proficiency is relatedand most similar to each other.

    RECOMMENDATION

Based from the conclusion, the following are recommended by theresearchers:

Provide deeper foundation of knowledge to the students who are belong tothe native groups and had insignificant believes in the practice ofpost-partum care.

Seek for the participation of the male student nurses to have balance onthe distribution of the respondents gender which may somehowbecome significant to the post-partum care.

Include the development of 11 core competency standards in teachingpost-partum care to the students.

Enhancement of the RLE clinical focus must be done on the post-partumcare nursing assessment, nursing intervention and care planning.

Give actual hand-on on the students that develop their skills further onpost-partum care.
