    1.0 SUMMARY

This plan defines the training to be accomplished by the primarand backup crews in preparation for the fourth manned Gemini Mission(GT-6). It is intended as a guide to the flight crews and supportpersonnel responsible for training, and it does not represent absolutraining requirements. The training outlined in this document isformal scheduled training, and it does not include such crew activitas study and physical fitness which are accomplished on an individubasis, nor those activities that are more directly related to flightoperations support and engineering efforts.

The Crew Commander is responsible for the accomplishment of theoverall training plan. Effective planning and coordination by allagencies involved will be essential to the successful completion oftraining objectives within the relatively short period available fortraining. Equipment location and availability will be such as tominimize crew and ground support personnel travel requirements.

2 . 0 IKTRODUCTIOK " . .This training plan outlines the specific mission training to beaccomplished "by the flight crews for the fourth manned Gemini Missio(GT-6). Revisions to this document will be the responsibility of thFlight Crew Support Division (FCSD) with the authorization of theAssistant Director for Flight Crew Operations. The criteria used in developing this training plan" are as follo1. Although crew members are normally scheduled by teams and itheir designated seat positions, cross-seat and cross-team, trainingbe done so that each crew member can satisfactorily perform the morecritical tasks. This approach, in addition to insuring mission succwill permit some late-date flexibility in reassignment of crew membeand alleviate training schedule problems.2. The backup crew must be as prepared for flight as the primacrew. This will permit, if the need arises, replacement as a team oindividual seat position with no or minimal delay to the launch sche

3.0 PREPARATION AND TRAININGThe following is a description of each major area in which thecrews will be extensively involved. Schedules defining specific arof preparation and training are included in Figure k-2 to illustrat

proper sequencing of individual crew activities.

    3.1 SPACECRAFT TESTS

Participation by flight crew members in the testing of their scraft is of significant operational and training value to them. Itnecessary to have an operator or observer inside the spacecraft durmany of the tests. The flight crews will frequently fulfill this rquirement for the major spacecraft tests and, in so doing, learn thcharacteristic functioning of their spacecraft systems. In additiowhen modifications to the spacecraft are considered or required, thcrews will be able to make inputs with full knowledge of the situat

    3.2 GEMDJI MISSION SIMULATOR TRAINING

The f-light crew will complete an extensive training program usthe Gemini Mission Simulators to provide them with experience in thnormal and abnormal operation of spacecraft systems and flight contThe program consists of JO training sessions, usually of 1 1/2 to 3hours duration. This training is divided into four training phasesa. Phase I - Familiarizationb. Phase II - General systems trainingc. Phase III - Specific mission trainingd. Phase IV - Launch and network simulations

Session 1 - Simulator familiarization and general spacecraft sys-tems operation.Sessions 2 and 3 - Flight plan review, with emphasis on operationsusing the visual display system. The crews will wear pressure suitsduring one of these exercises.3.2.2 Phase II - General systems training. - The purpose of thisphase is to train the crews in system failure detection and analysis

and the application of alternate procedures and operational modes. Theapplication of specific mission rules is minimized. The number of .failures per session will "be kept to a level that will allow the crewsto discuss and analyze each failure in detail. .

The crews will participate in all of the .launch and reentrysimulations, but because of the limited crew training value of the net-work simulations and the simulated network simulations, each crew willparticipate in only two of these simulations.

    3.7 ZERO-G TRAINING

The crews will practice crew station procedures at zero-g duringa training flight in a KC-135 aircraft at Wright-Patterson AFB,Ohio.

    3.8 PARACHUTE TRAINING

The flight crew will receive a review briefing on parajump tech-niques and procedures and each crew member will make two parachute land-ings over water in full flight gear. A parasail will be used for thistraining and the crews will wear the harness, lanyards, and egress gearapplicable to a parachute landing and survival.

3.10.2 Systems briefings.- The flight crews will receive a seof briefings covering each major spacecraft systems at.the. beginnincrew participation in spacecraft testing, and later at Cape Kennedy, approximately six weeks before flight. A systems review briefing wibe held approximately 10 days prior to flight at Cape Kennedy. Thesbriefings will be given by engineers involved in spacecraft testing. Each system will be discussed in detail with emphasis on operationatechniques and functional interrelationships.

3.10.3 Flight experiments.- The experiments for this mission wbe reviewed in general with the flight crews at the beginning ofspecific mission training, approximately four months prior to flight. These briefings will be given by the experimenters and Flight Experiments Section personnel, emphasizing experimental objectives and creprocedures. Experiments will be reviewed again at approximately sevweeks and two weeks prior to flight to cover latest status and modifcations to equipment and procedures. The Crew Station Mockup will bused early in the training period to develop proficiency in the manilation and stowage of experimental equipment. The Gemini MissionSimulator, the Part Task Trainer, and the Translation and Docking Silator will be used for operational crew training on experiments dur
