The "Preferred Implementations" take into account the different levels of complexity of the process:

The complexity of waste water treatment is illustrated by means of the different phases making up the treatment process: lifting, screening, primary treatment, settling basin, biological treatment, chemical treatment and waste treatment.

The complexity of drinking water treatment depends on the quality level of the incoming water. More over, the environmental constraints (plant size, air pollution) and the quality required for the drinking water (taste, hardness, clearness) also affect the process.

Dedicated to Lifting, small pumping stations or tank stationswith a maximum of 2 pumps to manage.

P1 implementation is a very optimised solution that combines a controller,a Remote Terminal Unit and some Digital and Analog I/O in the same product,the W@de W320i. The W502 Web portal is a database server allowing theW320i remote management to communicate and manage history logs usingthe Modbus protocol. A remote Scada system (VijeoCitect) can also be usedto monitor with Modbus a P1 installation.This implementation is a real solution to manage the different pumpsand to collect the most interesting process data such as water level,flow and pressure.

On the field…The lifting station is used to send wastewater to the treatment plant.A Lifting application can be pre-configured in the W320i.

This application controls :� Pump startup and shutdown according to the levels in the tank.� The mixer operates for a specified time before the first pumpis started up.� The screen rake operates after a time-delay or when the pumpsare shut down.� The storm pump is started up if the normal pumps cannot evacuatethe water.

P2 implementation guarantees a high performance pumping installation.This implementation combines a variable speed drive ATV61 with a dedicatedwater solution card and a remote terminal unit (W@de W320E) insuring datacollection and transmission. The ATV61 water solution card provides a fullyfeatured control algorithm for a constant pressure pumping system comprisingof up to four pumps. On the field…In some P2 installation additional pumping features and specificconstraints (pump availability) require the use of more pumps and moredigital or analog I/O data. In this case a specific program shall bedeveloped to manage this water pumping or booster installation.

On the field…The water distribution network requires booster stations to providethe right water pressure. The difference between the discharge pressure and the set point controlswhether a pump is started up (or shut down).The booster application must control automatic pump changeover andswitches automatically from one pump to another in the event of a failure.The use of variable speed drive also prevents water hammer.

T1 implementation is designed for water treatment plants with non-permanentstaff and allowing remote monitoring and control. On the field…A complete autonomy and remote monitoring of your wastewaterplant with Modicon M340The process associated to T1 preferred implementation for wastewaterplants is simplified. Small wastewater treatment plants often concentrateskey phases such as: lifting (1), screening (2), biological treatment (5)and sludge (8). The association between the new Modicon M340 anda Remote Terminal Unit enables to optimize the in site managementand to insure an efficient remote control of your installations.

An efficient management of your small-distributed drinking waterplant with Modicon M340The process associated to T1 preferred implementation for drinking watertreatment plants is often simplified. According to the incoming water quality(Ex: water coming from the mountain, or groundwater) treatment phasesare reduced. For groundwater a simple filtration process with some chemicaltreatment should be enough. TESYS model U combines both motor starter and control functions.This flexibility allows control of all types of motors and pumps in thedifferent steps of a drinking water treatment.

On the field…Highly available the Unity Premium HotStandby allows maintainingthe wastewater plant operational even in faulty situation. It guaranteesa continuous process for critical functions of the wastewater treatmente.g. for instance the biological cleaning or the sludge treatment.

The largest drinking water treatment plants are often characterised by a largenumber of controllers that manage the process (up to 100) and several hundredof field devices such as variable speed drives and I/O modules. The filtrationprocess (steps 5 and 7), for instance, can be split in several treatment linesdepending on the filtration technic used: Microfiltration, Ultrafiltration,Nanofiltration or Reverse Osmosis. In the same way, the sedimentationtreatment (4), the distribution process (9) or the sludge treatment (10 and 11),can be structured in several process lines. Vijeo Citect solution providescontinuous 24-hour, 7 days per week monitoring of treatment process tohelp identify quality failures or contamination. An efficient supervision toolsuch as Vijeo Citect is mandatory to manage such complex architectures.
