Preface

The Fourth Russian-Japanese Colloquium on General Topology was held at the Me- chanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University from May 22 to May 28, 1996.

About 25 topologists took part in the Colloquium, including six participants from Japan.

The present issue contains articles submitted by participants of the Colloquium as well as some authors who could not attend the meeting.

The Organizing Committee is very grateful to all participants for their efforts that made the event more interesting and fruitful. Our sincere thanks also go to the contributors and to Professor J.E. Vaughan for his assistance in preparing this special issue.
