About the Summit

The Predictive Analytics Innovation Summit brings together thought leaders from the industry for an event acclaimed for its interactive sessions and high-level speakers sharing insight on how they are using analytics to gain a clearer picture of their customers, market and organisation as a whole.

As the amount of data that companies are able to effectively collect, store and analyse increases, organisations now face new challenges in making use out of this vast new resource. Big Data offers all companies the opportunity transform their organisation into a data-

driven culture, promising a more efficient business and offering a more informed decision-making process.

While data analytics and modeling can offer an accurate picture of what is happening now, predictive analytics gives an extra benefit in bringing together information to offer an accurate prediction of future action. Effectively knowing how customers or markets will behave before they do offers a new opportunity for companies, and if they are able to capitalise on this before competitors then they will gain a crucial advantage in driving success.

Simon is an RSS accredited statistician with over 15 years’ experience working in data mining and analytics and many more in coding and software development. His specialities include machine learning, time series forecasting, Bayesian modelling, market simulation and data visualisation.   As Data Scientist at Channel 4 his role is to develop machine learning solutions that allow the channel to build a deeper relationship with the viewer and innovate the way advertising is traded and work on supporting the creative side of the business. Grow Your Own Data Science Team - Turning Analysts Into Software Engineers

Without a doubt there's a skills shortage of those who lie at the intersection of statistics, technology and business. I'm going to argue that it's better for everyone if businesses create their own data scientists by moving analysts and technologists into the middle ground. I will describe how we did this at Channel 4 by introducing our analysts to agile development techniques while building our own machine learning package in R. I will describe why we think a prototyping approach is far more suitable to analytics than the traditional plan and build approach. I will also show how we used tools such as git, bitbucket and trello to increase levels of collaboration and creativity, how we are are building our own visualisations using javascript libraries and how we put together a training programme to bridge the gap between statistics and AI.

Integrating Content Marketing & SEO

The weather is always a talking point in our daily lives, especially since many have experienced floods and extreme weather recently. Events like this attract even more visitors to the Met Office website – the site has anywhere from 6 million to more than 24 million unique users per week, depending on external influences such as severe weather conditions and even astronomical events. As we will see, other types of events can also generate interest in the weather.

Manu Kumar is Head of Targeting, Optimisation & Data Science at Vodafone. He has 14 years of experience in Marketing and Sales functions across Technology, Telecoms and Retail. My educational background includes a Masters in Applied Mathematical Science from UC Berkeley with a Bachelors in Engineering. I currently lead the Targeting & Optimization data science team at Vodafone Global Enterprise. The primary focus is to use a range of analytic methods to derive opportunity areas for B2B telecom leveraging every available source of data.

Prediction Using Data Science & Big Data

Vodafone Global Enterprise is the market leader in B2B telecom with a range of products and services offered across 65+ countries. The breadth of geographies, accounts, products and data systems creates a unique set of challenges when it comes to forensically identifying focus areas for sales and marketing teams. This presentation covers the journey to a big data approach to solving this problem by integrating and leveraging non-traditionally used data sets via the TARGET program. This program uses a variety of algorithmic approaches derived and adapted from other industries & research areas to analyze huge amounts of data and find opportunity areas for the business to focus on. This presentation will cover some of the challenges faced, opportunities explored and the lessons learned for the TARGET program.
