Chief Corner Stone

1 Pet 2:5-9 “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture…

1 Pet 2:5-9 …Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect,

precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe

he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient…

1 Pet 2:5-9 …the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is

made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a

rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being

disobedient: whereunto…

1 Pet 2:5-9 …also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen

generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of

him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”

Heb 10:20 “By a new and living way, which he hath

consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to

say, his flesh;”

Heb 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who

through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to

God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the

living God?”

John 6:51 “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he

shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which

I will give for the life of the world”

THE BURIAL OF CHRIST

(I COR. 15:3-4)

1 Cor 15:3-4 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to

the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the

scriptures”

IT WAS A PREDICTED BURIAL By Isaiah

(Isaiah 53:9)

Isaiah 53:9 “And he made his grave with the wicked,

and with the rich in his death; because he had done

no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth”

IT WAS A PREDICTED BURIAL By Christ

(Matt. 16:21)

Matt 16:21 “From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go

unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again

the third day”

This should have helped the Jews and

Jesus' disciples understand the role of

Christ.

Matt 27:57-60 “When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named

Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body

of Jesus. Then Pilate…

Matt 27:57-60 …commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the

body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his

own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock…

Matt 27:57-60 …and he rolled a great stone to the door of

the sepulchre, and departed”

IT WAS A BORROWED TOMB.

Jesus put a low priority on material possessions

Matt 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

and all these things shall be added unto you”

What God provided was the best

(a rich man's tomb).

IT WAS A SYMBOLIC TOMB

We cannot understand being raised in a new life

Col 3:1 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are

above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand

of God”

Col 2:12 “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also

ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who

hath raised him from the dead”

Rom 6:3-5 “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into

his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into

death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by…

Rom 6:3-5 …the glory of the Father, even so we also should

walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be

also in the likeness of his resurrection:”

IT WAS A TRANSFORMING

TOMB

Joseph now had the courage to go to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus and to go to the cross to take it down

John 19:38 “And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the

Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of

Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the

body of Jesus”

Luke 23:52-53 “This man went unto Pilate, and begged the

body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

WHAT MUSTI DO

TO BE SAVED?

Gal 3:26-27 “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have

been baptized into Christ have put on Christ”

Acts 8:37-38 “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine

heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son

of God. And he commanded…

Acts 8:37-38 …the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water,

both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him”

Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is

baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not

shall be damned”

Matt 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in

heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son…

Matt 28:18-20 …and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even

unto the end of the world. Amen”
