PREAMBLE1. Sainik School Nagrota is a residential Public
School, inaugurated on 22 Aug 1970 by thethen Defence Minister, late Sh. Jagjivan Ram.The school campus is located 18 kms awayfrom the nearest railway station Jammu - Tawion Jammu-Srinagar Highway (NH-1A). Thelush green campus is located at Nagrota inJammu on the banks of river Tawi and spreadover 108 acres of land.
2. The School has excelled in its primary role asa feeder institution to the Armed Forces andhas over 500 Ex-Nagrotians to its credit asofficers in the Armed Forces. A good numberof boys are IAS, IPS officers, Doctors andEngineers, serving not only in J&K but all overthe country and abroad.
OBJECTIVE3. The aim of the school is to prepare boys
academically, physically and mentally forentry into the National Defence Academy andother walks of life. A sound character, esprit decorps, dedication, patriotic outlook and desire to serve the country are the qualities which Sainik Schools seek to promote.The other objectives of the School are :-
4. (a) To remove regional imbalance in theofficer cadre of the defence services.(b) To develop qualities of body, mind andcharacter which will enable the young boys oftoday to become good and worthy citizens oftomorrow.(c) To bring public school education withinthe reach of the common man.

ADMINISTRATION6. The administration of Sainik Schools is vested
in an autonomous body of Board of Governorsunder the Chairmanship of the Union Ministerfor Defence, Ministry of Defence, Govt. ofIndia. Day-to-day functioning of the School isa d m i n i s t e re d by a L o c a l B o a rd o fAdministration (LBA), which ensures properimplementation of the policies laid down bythe Board of Governors. The GOC-in-C of therespective command or a Senior DefenceServices Officer nominated by him is theex-officio Chairman of the Local Board ofAdministration.
LOCAL BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION7. In case of Sainik School Nagrota, Chief of
Staff, Headquarters, 16 Corps is theC h a i r m a n o f t h e L o c a l B o a r d o fAdministration. The Education Secretary toJ&K Govt., Member of Parliament fromJammu constituency, Deputy Commissioner,Jammu,Director of School Education, Jammuregion, CEO, Jammu and Principal, SIE,Jammu are the members of the Board. ThePrincipal, Sainik School Nagrota acts as theMember Secretary of the LBA.
FACILITIES8. Uninterrupted Power Supply with a
backup of 225 KVA Generator.9. Playgrounds, courts, obstacle course,
Mini Stadium, Administrative Block,Academic Block, Infirmary, PrimarySchool, Hostels, Cadets’ Mess, GuestHouse, Science Labs, Maths Lab, IT Lab,Language Lab, Library, A/C Assembly Hall,Auditorium, CCTV Networking etc.
HOSTELS10. The authorised strength of 465 boarders is
accommodated in four hostels. HostelSuperintendents ensure personal comfortand healthy growth to mould boys intodisciplined young men. Round-the-clockguidance is provided for the total developmentof the personality of cadets. This is achievedby grouping the boys into various Houses.Each House is administered by a HouseMaster. The Hostel Superintendents andHouse Masters remain in close contact withthe boys to look after them and monitor theirgrowth and progress.
INFIRMARY11. (a) The school has a fourteen bedded
infirmary and cadets are treated by a qualifiedDoctor/Nursing Asstt. Sick cadets needingspecialist treatment are referred to MilitaryHospital/ GMC, Jammu.(b) Immunisation of the cadets must becompleted before admission in the school bythe parents as per WHO guidelines.(c) Infirmary in school is only to provide firstaid to the sick cadet, the parents will beinformed & it is their responsibility to take thesick child for further specialist treatment. After recovery parents will produce medical

fitness certificate to the school authority(d) All the OPD, Laboratory, Radiology,Medical charges will be borne by thecadet/parents.
CADETS’ MESS12. A fully equipped modern cadets’ mess
provides wholesome vegetarian as well asnon-vegetarian diets. Both ‘Halal’and ‘Jhatka’meat are cooked and served to the boysseparately. Boys dine with Masters and HostelSuperintendents in a well furnished dininghall. Formal Dinner-Nights are held frequentlyto inculcate Mess etiquettes and tablemanners. Sick cadets are provided specialdiet as prescribed by the School MedicalOfficer.
RECREATION13. A Recreation Room forms an intergal part of
each hostel and is equipped with a colourtelevision and variety of indoor games likeTable Tennis, Carrom, etc. Selected feature/training films are screened in the schoolAuditorium at regular intervals. The Schoolhas a multifacility Auditorium with a capacityof 600 people two cater for variousco-curicular and recreational activities.
LIBRARY14. (a) The School has a well equipped Library and
a furnished Reading Room. A large number ofmagazines and periodicals are regularlyreceived. Boys are encouraged to get abreastw i t h t h e d ay - t o - d ay d o m e s t i c a n dinternational news by making the best use ofthe Reading Room.
SMART CLASSROOMS
(b)Keeping abreast with the changing trendsin Educational Technology and making the classroom experience more learner-centred, school has Educomp Smart Classrooms with an aim to enable and empower the cadets as well as staff to think globally, connect, create and share knowledge.
SHOPPING COMPLEX15. The school has a shopping complex to meet
the day-to-day requirements of boys and thestaff. A canteen provides snacks, stationeryitems, soft drinks, ice cream, etc. A wellequipped tailor shop, a modern barber shop, a
cobbler shop are also available.CANTEEN STORES DEPOT (CSD)
16. A well stocked CSD canteen caters to therequirement of the cadets and school staffmembers.
SCHOOL PROSPECTUS17. School prospectus together with application
form can be obtained from the school office onany working day between 0900 hrs to 1700hrs (Except Saturday upto 1400 hrs) from 02 January to 28 February 2017 on cash payment of Rs 400/- for General & Defence Candidates and Rs 250/- for SC/ST Candidates OR by sending Demand Draft drawn in favour of Principal Sainik School Nagrota for Rs 450/-for General & Defence candidates andRs 300/- for SC/ST candidates respectively.Money order and IPO are not acceptable. ELIGIBILITY21. A boy is permitted to appear in Entrance
Examination once only for the class in which admission is sought. Admission is confined to classes VI & IX for boys of age b e t w e e n 1 0 - 1 1 & 1 3 - 1 4 y e a r srespectively as on 01st July of the year ofadmission. No relaxation of age limit ispermissible under any circumstances. A boy should be VIII pass at the time of admission for class IX.
E N T R A N C E E X A M I N A T I O N( For Class VI & IX )
22. Admission test for class VI is conducted inEnglish, Hindi and Urdu languages. The test for class IX is held only in English. The entrance test will be conducted on the 2nd/3rd Sunday of April at the following centres :-(a) Nagrota(b) Leh(C) Srinagar

Note :- *The pattern of question papers can be changed at any time by paper setting authorities.*The marks scored in the entrance exam can be obtained by depositing a fee of Rs. 100/- on completion of admission process only. However, answer script will not be shown/ issued in any case.
Interview
24. The written test is followed by an interview
carrying 50 marks for both classes VI and IX.
Boys securing minimum 25% in each subject
and 40% in aggregate are eligible to appear
for the interview. However, only the
shortlisted candidates will be called to appear
for interview. Number of shortlisted
candidates will be decided keeping in view the
number of boys to be admitted in that
particular academic session. The merit list is
prepared on the basis of aggregate marks
secured in the written test and interview. In
case of a tie, marks for mathematics would be
considered. In case of a tie again, the marks for
English for class IX and Intelligence Test for
class VI will be considered and thereafter, the
marks for General Science for class IX and
Language for class VI. If a tie still occurs, the
boy younger in age will be selected. Merely
qualifying in the written test does not confer
any right for admission. Boys are selected
strictly in accordance with the final merit list.
Number of boys to be selected depends on the
number of existing vacancies.
25. The result of written test is published in the
leading newspapers of J&K. However, the
candidates of other states who qualify in
written examination are intimated by post.
RESERVATION OF SEATS
26. 15% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste
and 7.5% seats are reserved for Scheduled
Tribes and 25% seats for the sons of service
personnel including ex-servicemen. 67%
seats are reserved for students of J&K state
and 33% is thrown open to boys from other
States and Union Territories of India. An

MEDICAL EXAMINATION
27. All boys, before admission to Sainik School,
are medically examined by a Board consisting
of Military Medical Specialists. Standards of
health and medical fitness for admission are
determined by the standards prescribed for
NDA keeping in view the tender age of the
boys and scope of their growth. In case of
rejection on medical grounds, the parents can
appeal against the decision of Medical Board
through the School after paying Rs. 100/-
(Rs 50/- for SC/ST) for holding a Review
Medical board, within 15 days after
declaration of medical results.
SCHOLARSHIPS28. The State Government as well as Ministry of
Defence award scholarships to the boysstudying in the Sainik Schools on merit-cummeans basis. The award of Scholarship, ishowever, subject to the decision ofscholarship granting authorities and theschool does not give any guarantee in this
regard. Details regarding the award of

STRENGTH OF BOARDERS
29. The School caters for 465 boarders who are
accommodated in four hostels named Hostel
Trikuta, Chenab, Sindh and Jhelum.
ACADEMIC SESSION
30. The academic session of Sainik School Nagrota
is from 1st April to 31st March of the
succeeding year.
PROMOTIONS
31. The school has introduced Continuous
Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) from the
Academic Session Year 2010-11.
(a) For Class VI to VIII
A minimum requirement of obtaining D grade
in each subject and 30 grade points in total out
of maximum 60 grade points (thereby
equalling to 50% in Aggregate) for class
promotion will be required. For retaining
scholarship a cadet has to score minimum 33
grade points Gen/Def./30 grades (SC/ST).
(b) For Class IX to XI
A minimum requirement of obtaining D grade
in each subject and 25 grade points in total out
of maximum 50 grade points (thereby
equalling to 50% in Aggregate) will be
required for class promotion from Classes IX
and X. For retaining scholarship a cadet has to
score minimum 28 grade points (Gen &
Def.)/25 grade points (SC/ST).
(c) Promotion to Class XII
A Class XI cadet has to score 40% in each
subject and 50% in aggregate to get admission
in class XII. To retain Def./State Scholarship a
Gen/Def. Category cadet has to secure 45% in
each subject and 55% in aggregate.
VACATION
32. All children are required to leave the school
during the vacations. The arrangements of
boys’departure are intimated to the parents in
advance before the start of vacation.
The School has two long breaks in a year :-
a) Summer Break
Commencing from last week of May
b) Winter Break
Commencing from third week of December.
LEAVE
33. Leave for attending weddings, social and
religious ceremonies is discouraged.
TRANSFER CERTIFICATE
34. School leaving/Transfer Certificate/Character
Certificate is issued to cadets only after
clearance from all school sections & meeting
conditions as stipulated by Sainik School
Society regulations.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
35. Physical Training is compulsory for all cadets.
The school provides facilities for Gymnastics,
Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball,
Boxing, Handball, Hockey, Athletics, Squash,
Table Tennis, Badminton, etc. A mini stadium
with a 400 metre track, lush green ground and
gallery is the hub of physical activities.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
36.The school provides ample scope for the
development of creative skills of cadets in fine
arts and crafts. Opportunities are provided to
the boys for participating in Debates,
Dramatics, Music, Art, Craft, Photography,
Trekking, etc. The school encourages
development of hobbies. Educational trips
form an intergral part of training. A large
number of activities under the Socially Useful
Productive Works (SUPW) are held with a
view to make the boys self-reliant and
appreciate the dignity of labour and self help.
NATIONAL CADET CORPS
37. NCC is compulsory for all boys in the school. A
half Senior Company and a Junior Division
Company of NCC are exclusively attached to
the school. Qualified instructional staff from
the Army and Navy are posted to impart NCC
training. The school has earned a place of
distinction by contributing a majority of the
cadets from J&K for Republic Day Parade at
New Delhi.
COMPUTER EDUCATION
38.Computer Education is an integral part of
academics. All the cadets of class VI to XII are

exposed to computer and its applications in
day-to-day life. The school has a well equipped
computer laboratory.
39. INTER - HOUSE TOURNAMENTS
(a) Academics : Debate, Declamation, Painting,
Essay Writing, Story Writing, Spelling,
Dramatics, Quiz etc.
(b) Games & Sports : Football, Hockey, Volleyball,
Basketball, Handball, Cricket, Athletics, Cross-
Country, etc.
(c) Representation : Our boys participate in
various Academic competitions and Games &
Sports tournaments all over the country.
(d) Our boys are selected to participate in the
Youth Exchange Programme organised by the
Directorate of N.C.C.
EXCURSION
40. Efforts are made to send boys on Excursions/
Educational Tours to important Defence
establishments.
FEE-STRUCTURE
TUITION FEE
41. The tuition fee is as given at Appendix ‘A’plus
10% to 20% increase every year.
CLOTHING FEE
42. In addition to the Tuition Fee, an initial
clothing fee of Rs. 1500/- is collected at the
time of admission from all full scholarship and
2/3rd scholarship holders. The clothing
supplied by the school is meant for the cadets
during their stay in the school only.
CAUTION MONEY
43. Caution money of Rs 3000/- (Rs 1500/- for ST
and SC boys) is collected from each cadet at the
time of admission. This amount, after
deducting outstanding dues, if any, is
refundable after the cadet leaves the school
and on completion of audit by LAO. In case a
parent fails to give appropriate notice of
withdrawal, the caution money will be
forfeited.
POCKET MONEY
44 (a) Parents/Guardians are required to deposit
Rs 3000/- per cadet annually towards pocket
money and incidental charges. This money is
normally spent on their toilet items, hair cut,
entertainment, etc.
MISC EXPENSES
44 (b) Parents/Guardian are required to deposit
Rs. 7000/- per cadet annually towards misc
expenses. Fee money is normally spent on
their uniform items and to meet other
contingencies.
DIETARY CHARGES
45. Parents/guardians are required to deposit
dietary charges as given at Appendix ‘A’.
SCHOOL JOURNAL
46. Parents/guardians are required to deposit
Rs 225/- per cadet annually towards the cost
of school magazine/newsletter.
MODE OF PAYMENT
47. Parents, in their own interest, are advised to
make all payments by means of crossed
demand draft in favour of Principal, Sainik
School Nagrota. Receipt signed by both the
cashier and the Registrar only are valid.
Parents can deposit the fee and allied charges
by Bank demand draft (DD) only.
MISCELLANEOUS
LATE REPORTING
48. Boys who fail to report to the school after
vacation or after leave granted to them are
penalised @Rs. 50/- per day of each reporting.
49. Individual students shall be struck off strength
after 40 days of absence without permission.
In all such cases Parents/Guardians are
required to refund Scholarships enjoyed by
the students from the Government.
RE-ADMISSION FOR DEFAULTERS
50. Cadets struck off the school strength for
absence without leave may be granted
readmission only in case of absence due to
medical reasons. In such cases, the boys will be
required to pay a re-admission fee.
ESCORTING OF BOYS
51. All cadets are to leave the school during

vacations. Prior intimation of the vacation
period is given to the parents. Parents of boys
studying in classes VI to VIII are required to
collect their wards from the school. Boys
studying in classes IX to XII are permitted to
leave the school on their own. Efforts are made
to send cadets of classes IX to XII in groups but
without escorts. The cadets from other States
may be sent in organised parties. The parents
are advised to inform the school authorities by
e- mail about the safe arrival of their
sons/wards at home.
52. Parents are required to submit a letter of
consent as per Appendix ‘N’
INTERVIEW WITH THE STAFF & PARENTS
TEACHERS MEET
53. Parents desirous of meeting the Principal and
other staff members are advised to have
appointments. Interviews will be granted
during working hours only in the office.
Parents are advised not to meet the Principal,
Vice Principal, Adm. officer and other
members of staff at their residence. Parents
are not permitted to visit Hostels and
dormitories. PTM is held on quarterly basis
and dates for the same are given in Annual
School Calender issued to Cadets before the
start of each Academic Session.
CORRESPONDENCE
54. Pa re n t s / G u a rd i a n s a re we l c o m e to
correspond with the school regarding
progress/problems in respect of their wards.
All letters except those of personal nature are
to be addressed to the Principal and not to any
one by name. All letters must contain the name
of the boy, Roll Number and name of the House
to which he belongs, to facilitate prompt
disposal. Parents/Guardians are requested to
enclose a self addresssed stamped envelope, if
reply from the school is desired.
PRIVATE TUITIONS
55. Private tuitions are not permitted. The school,
however makes arrangements for free extra
coaching for weak cadets.
CARE OF PROPERTY
56. All personal belongings of the boys must be
clearly marked. Boys are responsible for care
and custody of their own property. While all
possible precautions are taken, the school
does not accept responsibility for loss of
property in the school premises. Any damage
caused to the school property by the boys, loss
of clothing, books or other articles is to be
made good by the parents/guardians
concerned.
CASH AND VALUABLES
57. Cadets are not allowed to be in possession of
cash and valuables such as gold chains, rings
mobiles, MP-3/MP-4 players, tape recorders,
etc. Money Order addressed to the cadets
directly in their names are not accepted in the
school.
PROGRESS REPORTS
58. Cadets are regularly assesed in scholistic &
non-scholistic areas as per CBSE guidelines on
Comprehensive & Continuous Evaluation. Due
weightage is also given to class work. A
detailed progress report is sent to the parents
to apprise them of their wards progress in
various spheres of school life during the term.
WITHDRAWAL
59. Parents of cadets paying full fee can withdraw
their wards by giving two months’ notice
before the commencement of the following
term. Failure to give such notice will entail
forfeiture of the caution money. The parents of
cadets receiving scholarship can withdraw
their wards by refunding the total amount of
scholarship received by them during their
entire stay in the school.
60. Principal can order withdrawal of a cadet from
the school on the grounds of poor academic
performance/ poor progress. The fees in
respect of such cadet are not refundable.
Principal can also detain a cadet once in the
same class during the orientation period i.e. in
classes VI to VIII, if his progress is not found
satisfactory. Second failure in class VI to VIII
and any failure in classes IX to XI will result in
automatic withdrawal of the cadets from the

s c h o o l a n d i m m e d i a te s to p p a g e o f
scholarship. The Principal can also order
withdrawal of a boy on disciplinary grounds.
In such cases, the parents will have to refund
the total scholarship amount received by their
wards during their stay in the school. Order of
withdrawal by the Principal can also be
resorted to on non payment of fees during its
participative period.
RAGGING
61. As per Supreme Court guidelines ragging is
totally banned in school. All parents have to
submit an affidavit as per format attached at
Appx ‘P’at the time of admission.
GENERAL
62. Parents/guardians of cadets admitted will
be deemed to have read/understood and
agreed to the contents of this prospectus.
AN APPEAL
63. Parents/guardians are requested to cooperate
with the school in maintaining discipline and
traditions of the school, by remembering the
following salient points :-
(a) Attending promptly to the circulars issued by
the school regarding Fees, Leave, and Progress
Reports and complying with instruction
regarding extra attention to cadets’ studies
during vacation.
(b) Not requesting for leave of cadets to attend
wedding and other social or religious
functions.
(c) Not visiting the cadets except on the Parents’
Day and adhering to the timings and other
instructions on the subject.
(d) Equipping the cadets properly with their
clothing requirements and other necessities.
(e) Ensuring that the cadets report back to the
school after vacations by due date and time.
(f) Avoid bringing eatables into the school
campus.
PERSONAL CLOTHING
64. Parents are to equip cadets with the items
listed at Appendix “L” at the time of admission.
However, the school will provide the clothing
items listed at Appendix “M”
JURISDICTION
65. All disputes concerning the school will be
subject to Jammu jurisdiction.

NOTE :(a) Board of Governors, Sainik School Society, Min. of Defence has the right to enhance the tuition fee and allied charges any time without any prior notice.(b) The Caution Money for SC & ST Candidates will be Rs 1500/- and the total sum will be calculated accordingly.(c) Tuition Fee and Dietary Supplement will be enhanced @ 10% every year as per the directions of Board of Governor, Sainik Schools Society, New Delhi.(d) It may be noted that as per rules a child could be withdrawn in the middle of an academic session only after realising the fee for the full academic session as it not only results in financial loss to the school but also deprives another child of a chance of having quality education in Sainik School.(e) In case of voluntary withdrawal by the parents, the Caution money is to be forfeited.(f) Parents withdrawing their children after 30th Sept. of a year should pay fees for that full academic session.
4. INCOME AFFIDAVIT :An income affidavit from a First Class Magistrate/Notary stating clearly the monthly income of the parents/guardian from all sources will have to be attached to the application for scholarship. Besides this, an income certificate by the DC/Tehsildar (Revenue Authority) stating total income of the parents/guardian from all sources is also required for claiming scholarship.
5. BOND : The parents/guardian of an award holder will have to execute a bond in the prescribed form to the effect that if his son/ward fails to appear for the competitve examination of the Union Public Service Commision for admission to the National Defence Academy or having appeared for the examination fails to join it, if selected, he shall have to refund to the Government, the full amount of the scholarship received by his son/ward during the entire period of his stay at Sainik School Nagrota. This condition will also apply if he leaves the school without cogent reasons before completing the course. Failure to execute the bond will result in discontinuance of the scholarship. Parents of cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds will have to refund the complete scholarship enjoyed before Transfer Certificate is issued by the school.

J&K STATE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME1. The Education Department of J&K Govt., awards scholarships to domiciles of J&K as per the
following scheme.2. TENURE : A scholarship once awarded will continue from year to year subject to the Principal’s
certificates regarding regular attendance, good behaviour, satisfactory progress and other conditions. In case of failure in any class, the scholarship will be discontinued. There will however, be an orientation period of about 2 years, during which one failure may be condoned.
3. ELIGIBILITY : The scholarships are open only to those cadets whose parents/guardians are residents of J&K State.

1 Ministry of Defence scholarship will be granted to sons of JCOs/ORs and equivalent ranks of Navy and Air Force, who are not in receipt of any State or other scholarship, in order of merit.
2.
