Who is the Pre-sessional aCaDeMiC english PrograMMe for?This programme is designed for those who do not meet the minimum English Language requirements for entry onto HND, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. On successful completion, students will meet the minimum English language level for entry onto courses at The University of Northampton.

Modules have been designed to develop the intellectual abilities, study habits, language and communication skills essential for higher education in the UK.

flexible struCtureOur programme is designed to be as flexible as possible. You study for as many (or as few) terms as you need to improve your English to the level needed for entry onto your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate degree. You can join at the beginning of any term, although the best time to join depends on your entry level, your desired exit level (whether you want to join an undergraduate or postgraduate degree), and when you wish to start your degree (postgraduate degrees have both September and January intakes). We are happy to advise you about the best time to join to meet your needs.

entry levelMinimum entry level is IELTS 4.0 or equivalent. If you enter at this level you will usually need to study for four terms to reach IELTS 6.0 for entry onto an undergraduate degree.

What suPPort Will you get?You will benefit from strong academic and personal support throughout the year to enable you to cope with the transition from home to a very different academic and cultural environment. We see this as a very important part of the programme.

rate of ProgressionEach term aims to improve your English by 0.5 IELTS points, although you should remember that different people will progress at different speeds.

feesAutumn, Spring, Summer term (1) are £2500 each or £6950 for all three.

Summer term (2) is £1250

Course ContentEach term you will study four modules:- Use of English- Reading and writing- Listening and speaking- Study skills and projects

You will spend a minimum of 20 hours per week in taught classes and you should expect to spend at least a further 15 hours per week practicing your English and completing activities given by your tutor.

NBS has over 3500 students including 1000 International students. We also employ our own specialist teachers in English who provide English Language tuition. Our Pre-sessional Academic English programme has been specially designed to prepare international students for entry to higher education in Britain.
