Dear SPX Family, The students have enjoyed Red Ribbon Week. My prayer is that all students understand the importance of being drug free and living a healthy life. As we celebrated our first Award Assembly of the 2016-17 school year, it made me proud to see all of the outstanding students we have at Saint Pius X. Not only are our students successful in academics, but also in their character and faith. I am proud of all of the stu-dents who stood out among their peers and teachers and practiced and gave witness each day the virtue of the month. Students will be allowed to wear their Halloween costume to school on Monday, October 31 if they are willing to give to the Devin Goudy fund. The cost is $2.00. However, no face paint, goo or blood, props, or mask will be allowed. Also, please make sure that all costumes are in dress code and appropriate for school. Tennis shoes are recommended also for PE and recess. Parties will be at 2:30. Last, on November 8, Election Day, SPX will be a polling site. Please be aware that parking will be limited and carpool in the morning and afternoon could possibly be delayed or re-routed. Please be patient with our commu-nity visitors as they do not all know the flow of traffic or traffic pattern dur-ing these times. I am asking too, that all school visitors, please park in the back lot for that day. As always, have a wonderful weekend and enjoy time with family and friends. Ms. Wahlstrom says… Hi Parents—My final tips this week will focus on cell phones.

I hope this and the past two weeks have been helpful for you.

Cell Phones

Make sure you talk about healthy and unhealthy uses of texting and photos. Texting should not be used for emotionally ‘hot’ topics; like a break-up, conflict, or expres-

sion of sadness or jealousy. Photos and texts that are provocative cause problems for a number of reasons: Make sure your child knows that the messages and photos can go ANYWHERE to ANY-

ONE Make sure you and your child are both aware that there can be legal consequences in some

cases. Many parents do not realize that they can have extensive control over cell phones; find out

what your plan offers. Some companies can allow parents to turn off phones during certain hours; for example,

turning it off from midnight-six so your child sleeps. Some companies have a feature to allow you to read texting. Notify the police of any threatening, harassing, or inappropriate content you receive. The

sender may face charges. You may be able to monitor your child’s location by GPS on the phone if you want to do

this. Create boundaries, so kids know how to use the phone. Some examples; no

phones during meals, no phones during homework, or no phones after 9:00 pm.

Help your child understand the costs associated with their phone use. Ensure your child knows the dangers of distracted driving.
