1776 Americans formally declared independence as one nation USA

French gov’t secretly provided supplies, ammunitions and weapons to revolutionaries (What was happening in France during this time?)1783 Treaty of Paris ended war (between UK, France, Spain, Neatherlands) Recognized the sovereignty of US over the territory before 49th parallel, as south as Florida, and far west as Mississippi River
