ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY Resurrection Parish 5th Sunday Collection – January 29, 2017 Year in Review In 2016 Resurrection Parish continually reached out to those in need the efforts of the SVDP and lots of volunteers (many of whom are parishoners). These efforts were fully funded by the parish through the fifth Sunday collections and a few anonymous benefactors. We have no over-head costs; we do all for love of neighbor. A recent letter from the Redwood Empire Food Bank reported:

SVDP acquired 416.122 punds of food (the equivalent of 346.768 meals), including 242,352 punds of fresh produce and 4,833 of protein at no cost through our Protein Initiative. (The Protein Initiative grant expired, so our cost will go up in 2017.)

The estimate wholesale value of the food was $592,011.

The total fees paid were $21,572, savind SVDP $570,439.

For every $1 paid in fees, SVDP received an estimated $27.44 in value.

In addit6ion, we purchased thousand or pounds of rice and beans in bulk, which were bagged by various volunteers (e.g. the Altar Society, Cardinal Newman students). At Thanksgiving we were able to provide 300 families with a turkey, vegetables and staples. At Christmas each family received 10 punds of beef, vegetables and staples. This year er were once able to provide backpacks and shoe vouchers for parish families who needed a helping hand for back-to-school. Working in conjunction with the SVDP thrift store in Rohnert Park, we were able to provide emergency assistance with clothing and household items to a number of individuals. We also provided a limited amount of overnight emergency housing assistance. YEAR AHEAD The needs brought to our attention are varied and urgent in nature. The ONLY reason that we can meet those needs is YOU! Through YOUR generosity, we are God’s hands! Please prayerfully consider giving to the SVDP’s 5th collection on January 29th. GOD BLESS YOU! With deepest gratitude, The Member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society
