The Place of Prayer
• A privilege of the Christian, Hebrews 4:14-16
• Expresses our relationship with God, Galatians 4:6; Matthew 7:10-11
• We trust in the favor and blessing of prayer, 1 John 5:14-15

The Power of PrayerJames 5:16-18
• Faith empowers prayer, James 1:5-8; Mark 11:20-24
• Righteousness empowers prayer, James 5: 16, 17-18 (1 Kgs. 18:41-45); 1 Peter 3:12
• Obedience empowers prayer, 1 John 3:22– Ask according to God’s will, 1 John 5:14;
Matthew 26:39, 42, 44– Free of covetous requests, James 4:3

The Possibilities of PrayerPhilippians 4:6-7
• We will never know all the workings of God on our own (including His work of answering prayers), Eccl. 3:11; Deut. 29:29– We are certain God answers, Luke 11:9-10– We are certain God always answers us in love,
Luke 11:13– Without revelation we have no way of precisely
pinpointing everything about God’s answers

The Possibilities of PrayerPhilippians 4:6-7
• Our focus in prayer: The purposes and will of God, 1 John 3:22; 5:14-15– Example: 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (but, wars come)– Example: For the sick, Jas. 5:14; 2 Cor. 12:7-10
(but, illness remains)– Example: Vindication from evil, Rev. 6:9-11
(a little while longer)– Example: For laborers, Matthew 9:38

• Be thankful when the answer is “yes”, and keep living by faith, 1 Thess. 5:17-18
• Trust God to always answer in ways that are best for us, Hebrews 5:7-8
• Be steadfastly attentive in prayer, Ephesians 6:18

• God hears and answers His children when we pray
• We must continue to pray and not be discouraged, Luke 18:1 (1-8)
• Focus on faithful living, praying always, and submitting to God’s will
