Issue No. 10 22nd April 2015 Dear Parents, Families and Friends, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope all families had a relaxing, enjoyable and holy Easter. It has been wonderful to see the students return to school refreshed and eager to learn. Mrs Gaskin is away on long service leave for the first two weeks of term so I will be in the role of Acting Principal. Ms Hale will be the Acting Assistant Principal and Mrs Sweeney the Acting Religious Education Coordinator. We welcome Mrs Jane Hall to our staff. Mrs Hall will be working as a teacher’s aide primarily in Kindergarten classes each day between 8:55am and 10:55am. Tomorrow, Thursday 23rd April, at 12:00pm we will hold our ANZAC Day ceremony in the school playground in front of the flagpole. We are honoured to have Mr Jack Calder, a World War 2 vet- eran, and Mr Michael McCormack, the Member for Riverina, as our special guests. Members of the school community are warmly welcomed to attend the ceremony. Thank you to those parents who attended the P&F meeting that was held on Tuesday evening. We greatly appreciate the time and commitment that many of our parents give to making St Joseph’s a wonderful school. We always encourage others to become involved in the P&F. Meetings are held monthly and last no longer than an hour and the contributions that people make are not onerous. Mrs Langtry continues to do an outstanding job leading the music and drama classes. It is exciting to hear the music, laughter and learning emanating from the flexible learning area on a Wednesday and Thursday. Under the leadership of Mrs Langtry, the choir is evolving beautifully and some Year 6 girls have done a great job leading the singing of the national anthem at the Friday assembly. Our school library will be available for borrowing as of next week. Today staff will be involved in a learning session with Mrs Maureen Said based around the use of the computer borrowing system that is used. The library is continuing to update its shelves with new books arriving regularly. There is a great deal of sport occurring for our students in the first weeks of term. On Friday the 24th April, students will represent the school at the Diocesan cross country carnival in Holbrook. Next Thursday, April 30th, the Year 4 students will be competing in the Trent Barrett Shield with the boys playing rugby league and the girls league-tag. May 6th sees a large contingent of athletes from Year 2 to Year 6 competing in the Deanery Athletics Carnival before our senior boys compete in the Paul Kelly Cup in AFL on May 7th. We wish all of these students the very best of luck and are confident they will be excellent representatives of St Joseph’s.
