Annual Eparchial AppealLast week marked the beginning of the 2015 Annual Epar-chial Appeal (AEA) in our parish. You received a letter from Bishop Bayda seeking your support. Your support of this year’s appeal ensures that essential charitable, educational and pastoral ministries are continued and carried forward. For Moose Jaw the target is $2350. This Appeal is run under the auspices of the Blessed Budka Eparchial Stewardship Society Inc. (BBESSI).

Gifts can be given by cheque, direct debit, credit card, online

The envelopes can be given to Gloria Leniuk or Mark La-zurko or placed in the collection basket. The target date for the completion of the campaign is May 24. Your gift to the AEA will help continue the vital ministries and programs of-fered throughout the Eparchy.Note: if contributing by cheque make it payable to BBESSIOfficial receipts will be mailed from Saskatoon.

MercyMenningers’s observations have been echoed by a num-ber of mental health professionals. They recognize that patients often are bound by anxiety about not being for-given and become slaves of guilt. Once they acknowledge their sins and receive God’s mercy and forgiveness, they are often freed in a very healthy psychological way.It is easy to just think about the Sacrament of Penance as a sort of scoreboard. If we go to Confession, we can just “wipe the slate clean”. This, however, is a damaging re-duction of the immense gift that is God’s mercy. His abun-dant love for us is not about keeping score, but about re-storing and strengthening a relationship. Mercy liberates our souls from the guilt and self-loathing that keep us from loving and serving God and others. This mercy not only purifies the soul, but fills our hearts and minds with peace, giving us the strength to persevere and to grow in virtue.Have you ever heard a priest say the words “May God grant you pardon and peace” at the end of your Con-fession and suddenly felt a flood of relief? Regard-less of whether you have an emotional reaction or not, when you receive absolution you undergo a substantive change. When you are absolved from your sins through God’s mercy, you are once again able to move forward. The graces received unite us with Christ, and allow us to experience His consolation. The value of Christ’s Mercy should never be underesti-mated. He died so that we could be free from all of the times that we have failed, when we have rejected Him, when we have chosen other things above a loving rela-tionship with Him. When we seek out and embrace His Mercy, we are better able to become the men and women He is calling us to be. During this upcoming Year of Mercy,

we can each (in the words of our Holy Father) find the “joy needed to make fruitful the mercy of God.”

Man born BlindThis Gospel shows real growth in faith. At first the man born blind had no idea who had cured him. His faith gets clearer as he is ques-tioned. Jesus is at first just a man, then a prophet, and finally he is his Lord, the one he worships. He is able to stand up against the enemies of Jesus certain that he has been healed and saved from darkness. He is willing to stand up for his new faith. Here are some passages from Pope Francis that challenge us to think about how seriously we are taking the call to share our faith with others. The Pharisees didn’t think the man born blind was qualified to teach them, but that didn’t stop him.Pope Francis reflects:In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples (cf. Mt 28:19). All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insuf-ficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients. The new evangelization calls for personal involvement on the part of each of the baptized. Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love. Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always “missionary disciples”. If we are not convinced, let us look at those first disciples, who, immediately after encountering the gaze of Jesus, went forth to proclaim him joyfully: “We have found the Messiah!” (Jn 1:41). ... So what are we waiting for?

PrayerFather, You have blessed us in so many ways, above all in the mercy and compassion you have shown us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, your Son. Keep us grateful every day for your great and gentle love. We don’t always know how to bring people closer to you and we would rather that it was someone else’s job. But we do know that you have poured your Holy Spirit into our hearts and you are at work among us. Take away the fear and embarrassment that sometimes stops us speaking about you to others. Make us sharers of Gospel Joy to those who most need to learn of you. Amen.
