MARK’S MESSAGE

PRAY BELIEVING Little Johnnie was saying his bedtime prayer a week before his birthday. In a loud

voice he listed all the things that he wanted. His mother said “don’t pray so loudly John-

ny, the Lord is not hard of hearing”. Johnny replied “maybe He isn’t, but grandma is.”

We may sometimes find ourselves praying like Johnny. We ask God, but make other pro-

visions. I’ve heard it said “Pray as if everything depended on God and work as if every-

thing depended on you.” God answers prayers, but He also expects us to do our part as

well.

Our prayers also need to come from righteous lips because: “He hears the prayers

of the righteous” (Prov 15:29). Prayers are kind of like skyhooks – if we get enough fas-

tened in up there we will have something to hang on to when the world is jerked out

from under us. We must pray believing and God will answer our prayers. He may an-

swer, “NO” He may answer “YES” He may answer “MAYBE” and He may answer

“LATER”. Whichever way He may answer us we need to understand that our Father in

heaven is eager to hear and answer our prayers in a positive way those who are His chil-

dren. He knows what’s best for us.

God also urges us to be persistent in our prayers. He wants us to keep asking. Je-

sus told a parable about an uncaring judge who finally ruled in favor of a poor widow

simply because she wore him out with her persistent pleas. He told that parable to teach

us that we “ought always to pray and not give up” (Lk 18:1). God is not unjust or uncar-

ing like that judge, but we are to be persistent like that widow. God never gets tired of

our asking, however, we must pray believing! Remember great things happen because

of prayer!

40 DAYS OF PRAYER—WE BEGIN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER TODAY! This is a time when we focus on specific peo-ple, ministries, and works in prayer as a church family. We are doing something a little different this year than we have in previous years. (1) You should receive a daily prayer schedule today. This schedule is divided into catego-ries to pray for each week. Pray with your family, your spouse and individually. (2) We have a prayer request box in the foyer for prayer requests. Write your request down on the provided paper and put them in the box. Our Shep-herds will be praying specifically for these request in our prayer meeting and privately (please indicate private or public on your request). (3) We will have a Shepherd guided prayer meeting close to the end of the 40 days. (4) We will have a PRAYER ENRICHMENT sermon series on Sunday night. (5) We will end the 40 days with a special prayer service conducted by some of the men of the congregation.

SUNDAY EVENING SERMON SERIES—PRAYER ENRICHMENT. Do you desire a meaningful prayer life? Is it your desire to leave behind a meaningless prayer life? During our 40 days of prayer on Sunday nights we will be studying how we can better understand prayer in order to enrich our prayer life. Come grow in your prayer life by studying this subject more in depth.
