For the inaugural function the Dr. A. S. Jadhav, I/C SLBT, MPKV, Rahuri was present as a chief guest and the function was presided over by Shri. Bansi Patil Tambe, Director, PRES, Pravaranagar. The seminar has pro- vided the platform for more than 300 delegates, researchers & students to interact with the resource persons. The subthemes of the seminar which as further discussed by the resource persons were Transgenic crops & Global stutus (Dr. A. S. Jadhav), Crop improvement (Dr. A. A. Kale), Plant breeding (Dr. Vivek Chimote), Climate Change & Agriculture (Dr. R. M. Naik), Science and Communication (Dr. Madhu K. P.), Biotech crops myths & truths (Shri. Ajit Narde, Dr. Punnet Luthra, Monsanto, Dr. Pankaj Bihani, Mahyco). Seminar also provided delegates opportunity to showcase their research through the scientific model presentation & poster presentation. Near about more than 500 news articles have been collected till date from the Marathi & English daily newspaper (Agrowon,

Sakal, Loksatta, Times of India etc.). To collect the scientific & agriculture related news from the daily newspapers. Displaying

the news articles on the notice board. To encourage student to get aware about social problems to be solved through the scien-

tific research. 2

To initiate the farmers

spirit in the students,

Agril. & Allied Colleges started the Student & Farmers Forum. The

student with the help of the teaching & farm staff started the vegeta-

ble production unit and providing the vegetable to the PRES sister

institute mess and overproduces is being sell at the Loni Weekly

Market. The objective of this activity are; To provide common plat-

form for student to interact with the farmers. To organize the guest

lectures of the successful farmers.

To initiate the farmer’s potential within students by involving them in the cycle of cultivation, harvesting & marketing.

HANDS ON TRAINING (RESEARCH PROJECT) The College of Agricultural Biotechnology students on completion of 7th semester

have to undertake Hands on Training programme (4 months) with 20 credits. For

the award 1000 marks, the students completes their research projects in the College

under Dept. of Plant Biotechnology, Dept. of Post-Harvest & Food Biotechnology &

Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology or apply to various govt. / semigovt. /

private undertaking institutions, where they can complete their project work under

renowned scientists, guides and professional and the training report is presented

before a university nominated committee at the end of the semester. In the current

academic year students are working in various research/ training institutes for com-

pletion of their research projects viz. Scientific Research Center, Mulumd(East),

Mumbai; Beej Sheetal Foundation, Jalna; Vasantdada Sugar Institute Manjari, Pu-

ne; IshVed Biotech Pvt. Ltd., Buldhana; Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Loni

(DU); TechNext Laboratories, Pune etc.

College of Agricultural Biotechnology has established the Medicinal Plant Garden under the guidance of the Dr. Bhaskar

Gaikwad. The Medicinal Plant Garden would help student to learn the cultivation & harvesting practices. The student has

planted Kadhipatta, Gavti Chaha, Shatavari, Korphad, Pudina, Vekhand, Vala, Safed Musali, Menthal & Gulvel. In addi-

tion to the Medicinal and aromatic plants the Mother Plants of Horticulture, were develop in 3 Acres; Guava and Chiku

commercial cultivation in 4 Acres; Development of Poly house and Nursery is under process.

The college of Agriculture provides facility of conducting experimental learning

modules on ‘Soil and Water Clinic’, ‘Milk & Milk Products’, ‘Vegetable produc-

tion’, ‘Mass Production of Bio-agents and Bio-pesticides’, ‘Production of Bio-

fertilizers’, ‘Seed Production’ and ‘Plant Tissue Culture Technique’. Which will be

helpful to the students to develop their entrepreneurial skill so they become job

provider rather than job seeker.

Under the experimental learning programme students of final year eighth semes-

ter get training on different aspects of agriculture. They collect and tested soil and

water samples of farmers. The value added milk products were prepared by the

student and sold to staff and students. In vegetable production they produce vari-

ous vegetables like Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Chill and leafy vegetables and

sold by establishing stall of vegetables. Also they produced various bio-agents and

bio-pesticides, students are working on mass production of HaNPV, SLNPV,

preparation of Trichocard, Mass production of Beauveria bassiana, Metarrhizium

anisopilae,Verticillum lecanii. By using various mass production technique like

PDB, PDYB, Crushed sorghum grain ,Coconut water and Molasses by which mass

production is done with powder and liquid formulations and sold by students to

the local farmers. Students produced Bio-fertilizers as ecofriendly fertilizer also

they work in isolation of various spp. of Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Tricoderma ect. They undertaken wheat seed production

programme and prepared the tissue cultural samplings, students are working on experiential module of Plant Tissue Cul-

ture in Agricultural Botany section to investigate the effect of different concentrations of growth hormones BAP and NAA

on virus free plant regeneration, shoot multiplication and different concentrations of IBA and IAA on in vitro root for-

mation of Banana and Sugarcane .
